Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
There are lot of Muslim women being raped in Muslim countries who are not wearing thin clothes.
It is sad that women themselves are giving justification and supporting such acts against women.

Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
im not saying that the woman was in the wrong..nor am i saying that the rapist had rights over her. All im saying is that there are evil ppl in this world...and we as women have to protect ourselves by dressing modestly.
You cant keep evil away from u (its all around us) but u can keep yourself away from evil.
Sure, dressing modestly (defined by the culture you're living in) is fine. But even the ones that do not dress modestly, are not "asking for it", as the Imam was saying. The fault lies with the rapist, not the woman, the fault lies with the thief, not the nice bike. Getting into all this, oh the bike should be covered is just silly, you take bikes to reach places, not to leave them in the garage as ornament looms.

It is true that in muslim countries lot of women get raped but still ucan try to keep evil away from you their are good and bad persons every where.Women have to try their level best to cover themselves and still they are raped then they are mazloom. On the day of judgment the effort will be seen that did every one tried to stay away from evil.

.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
so?
people do different stuff to make themselves feel good
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
If you agree that lots of muslim women get raped in muslim countries then it appears what you wear has nothing to do with if you get raped or not....
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
Look at the amount of women that are raped (and in many cases, gang-raped) in Pakistan everyday. Yep, they sure were asking for it! Those damn burqas! Makes it impossible for men to resist such provocative attire. I say from now on, all women should be forced to wear boxes, not unlike coffins (except made out of cardboard). Thats the only way you can stop those good ol' rapists from being tempted. What can I say? Boys wil be boys I suppose! Let them have their fun, I say!
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
dressing modestly is a preventative measure...now of course this doesnt mean it is full proof. It's like doing monthly breast exams or mamograms...it helps but there is no guarantee that you wont get breast cancer.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
I don't think so.
If there is a person who is mentally sick and is going to rape, then what you wear has nothing to do with the fact if he wants to rape you or not...
Most Rapes that do occur are by people who already know the victim
But what the imam said struck a cord in Australia as Arabs who gangraped Australian girls said they were raping them because they were white, christian and australian....
So whats next, covert to Islam and you won't get raped by Arabs?

Please, lets not feed them with anymore ideas.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
On a seperate issue, gang rapes arent common in Pakistan. If you want to discuss let's open up another thread as it would derail this one. But most women arent covered in Pakistan anyway.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
He just made a comment about the way she was dressed.
No, what he said was very clear. He referred to women as meat. That is degrading in itself and should not be supported. Second, he said that if a woman leaves herself uncovered, it will invite rapists (or male cats). Therefore, he is placing the blame of a rape on females. Not on the males. He's comparing rapists to cats. Women to meat. If you can't see that as disturbing and unIslamic, then I don't really know what Islam you're following.
What shocks me is that you're an educated female - educated in a western country. And you are defending this guy's statements.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
As if you don’t check yourself in the mirror and watch what you wear to make yourself look presentable.
![]()
Avoiding looking like a slob who just woke up 10 minutes ago and wearing something that makes you look horrible is NOT equivalent to desiring to attract male attention. And it doesn’t mean you have low self-esteem or anything else. It simply means that you want to look decent and retain some self-dignity. To some women that means wearing a flattering business suit. To some, it means wearing a dress. To some, it means wearing cute jeans and a t-shirt. Or whatever makes them feel good. Has nothing to do with looking good for the opposite sex. I put on make up every morning, and brush my hair and my teeth, and wear clean clothes and take a shower, and wear deoderant and throw on some perfume and make sure my arms are waxed, my outfit is matching, eyebrows are done, etc.
Do I do it to attract the attention of any male? Nope.
I do it to look presentable.
Now should I cover myself up, because I’m apparently a piece of meat, and if I don’t cover myself up then I’m just asking to get raped…?
That’s purely pathetic.
What would you expect me to do? Walk around with bad breath and tangled hair so no guy looks twice at me?
You have to draw the line somewhere.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
We all know the credibility of Miss Angel Eyes now dont we ![]()
As for the lil girl who got raped by the pakis who this Imam is defending.
She was just fourteen or around that age.
But im pretty sure she was a high school student at the time of the rape.
Fourteen year old girls dont know much bout wearing revealing clothes to attract males.
So fck You all for saying that bout a victim who at this moment maybe sitting in her dark room with no confidence because someone violated her prviacy.
The whole story of the actual rape isnt that she was walking down the road wearing a bikin.
She and her friend were lured into a house by the boys.
They tried to escape and called the police.
I honestly would very much like for all you jackasses who are suggesting that rape is something that is invited by the victim to be raped yourselves at one time of your life.
And then live each day knowing that someoen touched you in places without your permission.
We will see how you announce to the world that it was YOu not the rapist who is responsible for the rape.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
ume-zareefah
I recall reading somewhere that you stopped wearing the abbaya and instead now wear hijab and loose clothes, so if something were to happen to you, you are partially responsible because maybe if you were still wearing the abbaya it would not have happened? is that the logic that I am hearing here?
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
I believe he was talking about Bilal Skaf who is from Lebanon (Incidentally I do believe the Australian media concentrates disproportionately on Muslim rape, the more common rape is non ethnic rape). However, I do think that the Skaf group are a bunch of monsters for justifying this in the way this Imam did. He should be locked up like them. This was his words in reference to Skaf (who was given a sentence of 65 years for his crimes), which are pretty silly.. wouldnt even say it was Islamic either.
“A woman possesses the weapon of seduction. It is she who takes off her clothes, shortens them, flirts, puts on make-up and powder and takes to the streets, God protect us … then it’s a look, then a smile, then a conversation … then a date, then a meeting, then a crime, then Long Bay jail. Then you get a judge, who has no mercy, and he gives you 65 years.”
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
see the thing is you guys are just reading this one article written by some journalist...if u read similar articles u will notice that the way its worded is entirely different...
from this other article i read (sorry no source posted)....the Imam said "a woman who doesnt wear hijab is like "uncovered meat"......
i dunno about you but this quote seems entirely different to me then the one posted in the above article.
makes you think twice about what the media is trying to portray.
Also....making a comment about the way a woman dresses and saying she deserved to be raped are 2 different things....dont get them confused.

she is still dressed modestly....dressing in this way is a preventative measure.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
and this shows a lot about ur credibility now doesnt it…
besides…the rape victim herself said that she knows that the imam wasnt justifying the rape.
all anyone here is saying is that wearing a shirt so tight that ur nipples are showing through…or wearing low rider jeans where u are flashing your bright pink thong to the person behind u is going to get inappropriate attention from potential rapists or men in general.
Face reality people this is the world we live in.
Re: ‘Rape victim’ defends besieged Australian cleric
of course i look at myself in the mirror…i have to look presentable it come with the terroritory in the profession im in. however i can look presentable without wearing form fitting clothes.
anyway this is besides the point…
