A Pakistani Girl

Re: A Pakistani Girl

hmm no maintenance wives. I am liking the feminist theorist! :smokin2:

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Just curious, if the divine right of women to be looked after by their male family members must be upheld, then so must the divine right of men to take more than one wife (without the first wife’s consent), right? After all, men are also given the divine authority to take more than one wife as long as the man is able to look after both wives financially and otherwise and treat them in the same manner.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

it’s great that you never had to deal with discrimination or injustice because you’re a female. however, please read what the UN, UNICEF, WHO, and other world organization have to say about the treatment of women in pakistan. Are they all lying or exaggerating? just do a basic search to see how women are treated. this blog actually doesn’t even come close to what really goes how and how much pain and suffering there really is. if you are in pakistan, contact a local NGO or womens foundation and ask them how many women are abused, discriminated, mistreated by their own male family members, raped, killed for honor, disfigured, and treated with injustice. if you think I am lying, please feel free to do your own research.
pakistan is #4](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=4) in the world for the worst countries to be a woman, and #3](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=3) is India. do you think this is something just made up, lie or an exaggeration? this is very much the sad reality for women in pakistan, and no point in denying or ignoring such things. Yes discrimination is everywhere but Pakistan and subcontinent does rank pretty low world wide when it comes to womens rights.

pakistan made it to top 10 worst countries for women in all these lists. one of these reports even mention that 90 percent of women experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. But I am sure you will ignore that and call it a lie or exaggeration.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Nope. My post is self explanatory. I don’t do intentional misrepresentation. Projecting, are ya?

Re: A Pakistani Girl

@Theorist

What I don’t get is the need to run away from the label feminist. As in - I am not a feminist, but…

Ain’t notn wrong with feminism or being a feminist. People have wrong notion of what being a feminist means.

Ditto phrases such as - I am not a liberal, but…

Re: A Pakistani Girl

there is no need to run away from such labels, I agree. However, many posters here have a very confusing and twisted view of what feminism actually is. Hence, I feel the need to clarify my position.

What feminism is on GS = unrealistic expectations from the world that greedy and whiny women have. A whole lot of Self-victimization and being ungrateful about what we have.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Cant live with them…Cant live without them… :bummer:

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Ok. We are on same page.

IMHO, as long as we stick to what we know to be feminism, we should probably not make concessions such as not a feminist but.

The liberals got played by the Right and ran away from the word liberal. In other words, thee Right succeeded in making liberal a dirty word. Just want to state we should not allow the Right to make feminist a term to run away from.

But I see where you are coming from. (Plus all those new powerzzz that came with ur appointment - meri kya mizaal ke aapke saath panga loon)

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Uff!

One thread, so many feminist issues.

This thread has more turns than… the braid of a woman!

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Much intelligence
Such wit

Re: A Pakistani Girl

lol!

No I think you were.

Anyway. Nevermind.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Right.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Back to the topic at hand, my original thought was that yes, this stuff definitely happens. But she’s also clearly being sensationalist, and the tone of the piece seems more artistic than factual. Some of the problems highlighted are also not gender exclusive. One of the biggest issues, imo, the lack of education, is actually not a problem since the girl attended school. But it’s not propaganda since these are real issues.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

artistic and factual are not mutually exclusive. (Not saying u implied they were)..Sensational doesn’t fit. Since she probably is being factual. Artistic and factual probably appropriate way to deserve blog. IMHO

Re: A Pakistani Girl

Of course sensational fits, or artistic fits, otherwise she’s implying that every Pakistani girl is scorned by her dadi, restricted by her parents, bullied by her peers, abused by people in her house, and wishes she has only boys. A lot of girls face a lot of abuse, almost every girl faces double standards, but to suggest that every Pakistani girl lives in misery is stretching it IMO.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

I read this piece when thread started. If she did say this applies to EVERYONE Pakistani girl, she is being sensational. I highly doubt she stated that.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

She implied it, hence the title.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

The thread AND blog title is A Pakistani girl. It is more than a stretch to state she implied EVERY Pakistani girl by the use of A Pakistani girl. It would be sensationalism on someone’s part to state this.

Re: A Pakistani Girl

I am glad the thread back to its original topic. Agree with Ghost above.

It is absurd to think anyone here is denying that condemnable acts of ill-treatment of girls/women do not occur in Pakistan or anywhere else in the world.

Factual versus artistic.

Factual------ Artistic

It is interesting and appalling that just to argue for the sake of argument and show adamant behavior, some posters are tryng to confuse the two terms, namely factual and artistic.

Yes, they are different and the article was written artistically and lost its message altogether.

On the other hand title was conveying a simple generalized message.

Here is why;

“An Indian Man”

That’s right!

The man is an Indian. Title or caption whatever one might call is as true and factual as it can be.
**
But, is it right to put this title on this picture?**

The man is a convicted rapist from Delhi, India.

On top of it if someone writes an account of the rape event after posting this picture with said title?

Will the title still be right?

Moreover, if anyone put the picture of the poor victim of rape this man raped with other culprits and place a title:

" An Indian girl"

Will that be right also?

What if someone places the picture of an ugly woman and titles

" A Canadian Woman"

Will that be fine assuming that the woman actually is a Canadian?

Now in order to win the argument and not being realistic, some people may come up and say:

" So what’s wrong with that?"

But I can pretty much guess why they will ask. Some will not answer these questions as well.
