a gun in your house

Re: a gun in your house

You have to understand...

A gun is like a hand woven old silk afghani carpet, or a 16 pounder trout that your great grand father caught in kashmir and got it stuffed, or a holland and holland double barreled shot gun, its property!!!!!!

Re: a gun in your house

Well what if someone comes in my home to rob me and sees my gun and decides to use it on me or my kid, would I ever forgive myself for having a deadly weapon in my home.

Anyway what are the chances that someone will come to kill you at your home, and what are the chances that someone can missuse the weapon or kids can find it and use it by mistake.

Re: a gun in your house

I'm completely against guns. At the moment I'm in my own home all alone
though police station is at 2 min. walk.
I'm not scared at all.

Re: a gun in your house

lets answer one thing at time since we are speaking of completely different sceanrios, you have to look at the same scenarios.

so, someone comes to te house to just rob and has no intention of hurting you, but you pull out a gun and the he uses it against you ..

what are the chances that someone will come to your house and kill you?, hmmm not much, but dont you want to be prepared in case it ever happens? and if that means your gun sits idle in a safe that can only be opened by you or your spouse, do you not want to have that option.

how many people who were shot in their homes by burgulars were shot by their own gun that the burgular took, versus the gun that the burgular brought himself.

Re: a gun in your house

The police station could be across teh corner, but if they dont know someone has broken in your house and god forbid is attacking you, then they cant do much at all.

am niether pro gun nor anti gun. I am pro whatver ensures safety for my family. it ranges from trading in a sports car to a all hwele drive car (an awd sports car still..hey i hafta watch out for yself too), to get a very extensive alarm system, to covering outlets around the houe, putting gates, moving things around, for the kids safety. to me having a gun gives me an option that while I hpe I never am in a situation that I have to use it, but if god forbid there is a situation where I would need a gun, I would rather have it then think coulda-shoulda-woulda at that time in my head. and then ot be able to forgive myself for not being prepared to protect my family.

Re: a gun in your house

Fraudia,
You are right, safety is not guaranteed, one of our very posh teacher, her husband is an auctuary, has been robbed last year. But still no gun, no one was at home, she was at school with us. Robbers were aware of their richness, they also stole the dvd which I gifted her on Easter, it was Runaway Bride (Julia Roberts). She was so sad for the DVD, apart from her diamonds stolen.

Re: a gun in your house

This is a important point Munni is making if you have kids in the house. Maybe your kids wouldn't dare touch a gun if they some how got a hold of it but that doesn't mean their friends or boyfriends wouldn't. Or God forbid you shot your teenage kid when they were sneaking back into the house one night. Also if you shot a guy in the back while he's fleeing you could find yourself in some trouble. Fyi: you are 40 times more likely to kill or injury a friend or family member than you are to use your gun in self defense.

Why not learn a martial arts? That way you can protect yourself and your family even without a gun.

Re: a gun in your house

utd... 4 years of kick boxing training. however I know the limitations of that as well. the intent is to not use gun as an offense tool but as a deterrent :)

My wife is fully against it, and I am on the fence. Still am not convinced either way

PS: as far as guns getting into hands of kids or their freinds go, that is my responsibility. It has to be in s safe which is easy for me to get to, but very hard for anyoen else to open.

Re: a gun in your house

fraudz, if the gun is kept out of reach of children , wife and dacoits , it's useful , but if any of the above have access to it . it is harmful

Re: a gun in your house

well I agree that it should be kept out of reach of children and dacoits, but why the wife?

Re: a gun in your house

Re: a gun in your house

wives should be given roses every day ;)

Re: a gun in your house

If the gun is locked up in one safe and the ammo in another, by the time you can be in a position to shoot the robbers/loonies (reference to Canadian currency is unintentional) would be at their home, distributing the loot.

BTW, if you are buying a gun go for a revolver. There has been a lot of stories of automatics jamming.

Re: a gun in your house

There usually r special vaults that one can keep a gun..but then again doesnt that beat its purpose altogether...how long can someone open the locks and then try to get to the gun...by that time might be too late...:)...thats when the good ol baseball bat comes handy, as Danial was saying wayyy back

Re: a gun in your house

My sister can fire a gun. She has good aim too. (I trained her).
In pakistan its a good idea to teach girls how to use weapons.
That why I trained her. We are talking about 10 years ago.

Re: a gun in your house

no reason to keep guns and amm in separate safes, u can ahve a secondary level of safety for either or, where if you dont bypass it in x seconds it starts beeping loudly, thus keeping inquisitive youngsters out even if they somehow bypass the first level.

thanks for the info on revolver vs automatic, although u have a reloading problem

Re: a gun in your house

I know the moment someone enters my house, whether it be through a door, a window or whatever. unless the guy knows the exact floorplan and has a mad dash to the master suite and is there in 10 seconds, I have time to get to the safe. Now…it can always be something where if begum and I both can access the safe, i wield the club errr baseball bat while she retrieves the gun.

Now there are safes that read your finger print to open, and also have a secondary bypass when you use the fingerprint feature which starts an alarm if it is not disabled in a certain amout of time, what this does is, gives you quick access to the weapon, however keeps unwanted folks out.

These safes are expensive, but well worth it.
