what are your thoughts on this subject? just hearing about a situation with one of our gupster pals kinda kick started that back in my head.
I have often thought of having handgun or shotgun in the house, just because. yah we are barely 2 minutes from the police station and have a pretty comprehensive alarm system but sometimes I wonder, should we have a gun.
6 years ago, we had someone trying to look in our house at 3 in the morning, and some neighbour saw him called the cops and they arrested the guy, who claimed his pal lived here and he was just trying to see if he was home etc.
since then no major issues except one time we forgot to close a door properly and wind gust blew it open nd all sorts of alrms started going off. it was a little shocking.
so..pros and cons of having a gun in your house? it would be kept in a safe place, out of reach of kids, etc etc.
having a gun is not the issue, its the secure place where you can store it, if you have kids at home then it has to be under lock and key all the time, emmo separate then the gun.
also learn how to use it, and maintain it, it can be good,
if you have kids at home then a shotgun is better because its heavy and hard to handle.
no kids then a handgun is OK,
Also learn to throw knives, they can be as deadly as a bullet.
my mom is absolutely adamant that he not have the gun in the house
now he can get away with it more b/c we are older but for the most part he keeps it at his friend’s house
one time, it was unloaded and in its bag and he asked me to bring it over to him and my mom FREAKED out
that aside, i think guns are a very dangerous things to have around…esp with little kids…you here so many stories of accidental deaths, etc even when the parents think they are safe
yeah but like if some psycho gets in your house , then u need something to protect your family.. a 2X4 with a nail thru it is not a weapon of choice u know :(
those hunting slingshots loaded with marbles can be deadly...i know I tried em out on ppl in highschool :) but they dont instil fear in some psycho ya know
Pir jee, as soon as you enter the house, the closet should have a baseball bat in it, one should be in your bedroom, windows should have the chimes, they're like 5 bucks each. back door can be secured for very little money.
But in USA guns are cheap, you can buy a small gun safe with combo lock and keep it in your bedroom.
When I was 18 I used to sleep with an air rifle hidden in the small gap between my bed and the wall. You know, just in case.
I often thought of tyng a knife to the end to make a bayonet (because trying to reload an air rifle if there is someone hostile in the same room as you is tricky), but eventually concluded that typing it on securely enough was too tricky and in any case it would make the air rifle harder to aim....
If I lived in a country without strict firearms controls, I would ideally like to have one in my house since guns would be more common amongst thieves.
Given that the countries that I grew up in and now live in both had strict gun controls and that most intruders were not armed, I personally wouldn't keep a proper gun in my house.
Something like an air rifle might deter a person with a knife from coming near you, on the other hand.
I was ALWAYS against guns in the house...guns of any sort. I grew up without them, grew up in fact, in a neighborhood without locked doors.
These days though, I just dont know. My hubby grew up in Pak and always had guns in his house. They were the protection there.
We have a shotgun, I know (kind of) how to use it,,,at least how to load a bullet, aim and shoot. I keep the bullets in a place the kids cannot get to.
Yet, I'm uneasy about it. These days, once the kids get to be of the age where there are sleepovers and kid-parties, the schools send out questionaires which ask specifically - DOES YOUR HOUSEHOLD HAVE A GUN IN IT?
I will not make my kids outcast because we have a shotgun...I'll ditch it before I let that happen. But for the next week or 3, its a comfort to have it here (see my other thread)....
I also read much and have a sister in Peds ICU.... I am aware that most fatal pediatric gunshot wounds come from guns that were already in the house.
Its a worry for sure. For the time being, I'm confident that the bullets and the gun are beyond the capabilities of my littles. Once they get older though and it becomes within their capability to use it, I think it really has to go.
yep baseball bats, golf clubs, a 14 inch ghurka dagger etc are around..doors and windows are all secure, glass break detectors, windows and doors are secure with alarms, motion detectors and all are set, they are with a monitoring service so somethign happens they call teh cops. its not a random burgular type I am worried about, cuz like we dont really have anything valuable, but more of the deranged lunatics type :)
This reminds me of a time when a bunch of managers from my company's European division were at our HQ in Ohio to meet their american counterparts... gun control came up and the Europeans all said that you had to be a maniac to keep a gun in your house. There was an awkward silence and then all the American present said they owned guns.
the point is that if u just fire it ad it makes a noise, someone may think twice about coming after you very swiftly. of course ua re not going to use it in a face to face situation
i love those guys, first thing you do is teach the Mrs. the codes for when you say it, she’ll take the kids and hide somewhere secure, then you have fun with those guys, make sure they’re inside your house. then you can do whatever to them,
maddie what would an air rifle do, my brother and I shot each other with air rifles from across the room..he is still mad about it. they only leave welts :)
