Yaaro, does anyone have any idea kay Imran Nazir ko kion bahar bithaya hoa hai? The guy has 2 hundreds and 1 fifty from 8 tests. (against West Indies, NZ, and Sri Lanka)

I like this team. I agree, we should go for the kill. Loosing to india 1:0 or 2:0 does not make any difference but with an extra bowler we have a better chance of winning. It is not like we will miss Taufeq’s 100 once he is out of the team. Sami and Rana iare more confdent than Taufeq when it comes to batting.

I suspect instead the PCB will play Taufiq in place of Butt..... I think Pakistan is the only country in the cricketing world where a "speacilist" openor like Taufiq can play on the team when his speacilty seems to be playing spin. The guy plays the pacers worse than tail enders and you expect him to play the new ball? LOL
Taufiq has sifarshi written all over him.....

Have you watched any of his batting in these last two tests. I think For every 12 balls I’ve seen him play, I think he has given at least 1 chance. He has been dropped over and over by the Indians and he constantly edges balls into the slips.
This is no different than how he played last year. He has never looked likley to score more than a handfull of runs. The guy is simply not good enough to play international level cricket. I dont even know how he was recalled to the team after his horrid display against the Indians last year.

One reason why selectors are required to actually watch the candidates play in domestic games and not just look at the stats is that numbers don’t tell the whole story. We are not against Taufeeq just because he failed in thsi series, in fact, if you look at the test record of our pool of openers, Taufeeq probably has the best average among them (44 I believe). But we also need to look at hte manner in which he’s accumulated these runs. I am no batting coach so I won’t go into the details of what’s wrong with his technique, but he always looks uncomfortable and edgy at the crease. This is different from the other options we have (Yasir/Butt), who admittedly haven’t been very consistent either, but get their runs in a confident manner. Teh fact that they have been getting out to stupid shots means we can at least work on correcting their approach. Taufeeq on the other hand, with his limited strokeplay (which makes batting look difficult and puts the other batsmen under pressure too) is incorrigible. On top of that, he’s a horrible fielder too.

^ Taufeeq has averaged 25 in this series so far. On the other hand Shahid Afridi has managed average of 44 in the only Test he played :k:

How do you exclude Afridi, who not only top scored in the second innings, chipped in with a 29 in the first, but also took three valuable wickets of Sehwag and Tinday in the first innings…

Actually I heard Taufiq is Omer Quereshies nephew. That would certainly explain his place on the team
I exclude Afridi because he is not a test quality opener. Maybe you can play him as an opener for ODI’s, but I don’t think he should play in a test if he is unable to last 1 entire session at the crease. The ability to make quick runs is a positive, but a test batsman must be able to play for time. I would rather play Yassir or Salman, who with decent defense can play out half a day if we need them to.
You know as well as I do that you may reach a certain point during a test match when runs become irrelevant and you should bat defensively to play for time. Afridis runs in the 2nd innings of the last test are an example of such a time. The runs (despite the excitement they provide) were useless ( we were never chasing 420), we had no chance of winning and needed to preserve wickets to have a chance at drawing the match.

That is obviously true, but we stil have to try. I think both Butt and Hameed have shown great potential.
