Graham Ford must regret all the credits he did not get.
Such is the public and the media (esp Indian media) - that I have absolutely no doubts that if Ford was India's coach now, the public and the media would be going gaga about how Ford turned around the Indian team from the depths it had sunken under Greg Chappel.
Re: 3rd Test: India v England at The Oval - Aug 9-13, 2007
What makes you think that is 'Avoid Defeat' strategy. You are only looking at runs and not the time. It is only 2nd day of test match. Strategy is to have enough run on the board so that you can follow on England and then let them again face kumble on 4th and 5th day ( hopefully rough created by left arm pacer would be good enough to exploit).
Well...if it counts...Ravi Shastri shares my opinion about Dravid's negative tactics.
I have followed enough test matches to know that when you are in such strong situation , you try and get the opponents in to play 15-20 overs before stumps and exploit the pressure that exerts on them.
India might still pull it off, but that does not change the fact that Dravid is implementting the "safety first" policy.

May be startegy was to give them 5-6 overs and then have relatively new ball in hand next morning too to exploit morning conditions.
I think it was startegy of why-no-just-bat-once if you can.

Yes..and Lords was also flat track. You need to give Dhoni more credit than that. Yes Yuvraj is more proficient but too bad there isnot a place in the team yet. By the way after first test match you wanted Yuvraj to replace Jaffer. Make up your mind, is it Jaffer or Dhoni who should make room for Yuvraj.
Doesn't matter if it is Jaffer/Dhoni - I want Yuvraj to play.
I am perplexed that Dhoni is now selected CAPTAIN for Twenty20 ignoring Yuvraj - a senior player who has delivered so many times. I will not be surprised if Yuvraj falls by the wayside like Kaif/etc, the way his career is being handled.
He is in such super nick - but has to sit out in favor of batsman like Jaffer/Dhoni.
btw, Jaffer still sucks.....I said the same thing about Sehwag when he was the toast of the public and you see where he is today.... Jaffer would soon prove me right.

bhai mere, there is not much difference between scoring 640 and scoring 665 runs. But making the opposition play 15 overs instead of 8 before the end of the day is a BIG difference. There is great psychological pressure on the batsman to play out the day which India could exploit.
Re: 3rd Test: India v England at The Oval - Aug 9-13, 2007
We are not talking abt the ''technical '' perfection here . Who is in the form .I don't know what u have against Dhoni .At Lords ,he proved that he got something between his ears than the other prolific ones .Again today he played in his characteristic style put India in a strong postition .I would replace Laxman and put Yuvi ,not the one who actually plays .About Sreesanth ,yes i would have replaced him with Bose.

Six batmens in the Indian team score over 50.........Never seen such a score card for the Indian team !
**So many significant scores from the batsmen meant there were partnerships for almost every wicket. In all India put together an astonishing eight 50-plus stands, which is a record in Test cricket. There are 25 instances of six 50-plus stands, but no team had managed seven in a single innings. **

There is only one man who turned around the Indian team from the depths it had sunken under Greg Chappell...

...Chandu turned India's fortunes around. :D
:D
But seriously, seniors in the team are going to ue this success to push their agenda. It was rumoured that these seniors( Dravid, Tendu & Ganguly) do not want any coach. They are of the opinion that they have enough experience that no coach can add value. Also can also make atmosphere of dressing room 'tense'.
Now they are gonna come back to India and tell BCCI, we are playing so well without a coach and we do not need coach .

To F&B :
Karthik grassed another straight-forward chance today.
As I have been telling you, Karthik is an enigma on the field, he makes some spectacular saves and takes some tough catches - yet he also frequently drops some very simple chances. Maybe it is because he is primariy a wicket-keeper. But this aspect must be addressed.

Thus spake BBC :
WICKET: Pietersen c Dravid b Tendulkar 41 (Eng 202-5)
I can't believe what I've just seen. Tendulkar is wheeled into the attack before tea. His first ball is a lobbed up hand grenade which Pietersen looks to slap through the covers, but instead edges to Dravid at slip. Tendulkar is held aloft as if he's just won his country a World Cup final and a six-match series against Pakistan. Bell is the new bat and he's off the mark with a squirt to third-man for one. You have to say that's England done for.
