Congrats to India for making the final. Also the new look Paksitani team seems to have improved by leaps and bound from the first round. Having lost all its matches in the first round it beat Australia A in the second round and drew with India. Well played lads. :k:
Going by the performance in the first tournament, I think the young lads really shaped up. They lost one, won one and able to draw a game. These results speaks for itself. Without, corner specialist Sohail Abbas, skipper Mohammad Wasim, they did put a great fight. The players who are excluded on a disciplinary charge should learned from these young lads. Had they told the PHF authority before leaving the country, Pakistan team wouldn't had so much trouble and shaky tournament.
Hopefully, Pakistan will do best against Australia 'A' for thrid spot.
Great comeback from Pakistan, their performance in 2nd leg was very promising.

Tempers fly high India Pak Match
Two stunning goals within a span of five minutes helped Pakistan hold India to a 4-4 draw, but the result was not enough to lead the green shirts into the final of the Hockey Australia Men’s Challenge Tournament at the Sydney International Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Showing great flair on a cold and windy day, the Pakistanis came back from 2-4 down to strike in the 55th and 60th minutes, but a missed penalty stroke by short corner specialist Ghazanfar Ali meant they finished third behind Australia and India and were out of today’s final.
A strong holiday crowd witnessed a display of classic hockey that was unfortunately marred by an ugly incident that left India down to 10 men for the last 30 minutes.
India’s seasoned star Baljit Singh Dhillon was sent off with a red card, while Pakistan full-back and vice-captain Ali Raza was shown a yellow card after players from both sides exchanged heated words five minutes into the second half. The match had to be stopped for a few minutes because of the incident.
Pakistan needed to beat India after losing 3-4 to Australia and almost managed to do that but a feeble push from Ghazanfar and a few questionable umpiring decisions once again left them with a play-off against Australia ‘A’.
The green shirts, looking to avenge a 2-0 defeat to India in Perth last week, began the match very nervously as a series of unforced errors both in the deep defence and the mid-field helped India take the upper hand.
Dillon produced two goals within a minute including one through a penalty stroke to take India 2-0 ahead in the sixth minute.
But India’s lead came after a controversial decision from Australian umpire Tim Pullman. He awarded a penalty stroke to India when Pillay fell in the Pakistan danger zone after being stopped by a defender. The Pakistan players disputed the decision, but to no avail. Dhillon converted the stroke with a powerful flick that went past Pakistan skipper Ahmed Alam from the right.
Dhillon was in action again when a defensive error from Pakistan gave him the ball in the 25-yard area. A brilliant angular flick went into the goal to take India 2-0 ahead.
It was perhaps the two goals that came as a wake-up call to the Pakistanis. Four minutes after conceding the goals, Rehan Butt led an attack on the Indian territory from the right to earn a short corner.
Full-back Ali Raza, who missed the Perth leg with an ankle injury, produced a resounding hit to reduce the lead to 1-2. Two minutes later, a shot from right-in Mudassir Ali Khan caught Baljit Singh Saini’s foot right in front of the goal earning Pakistan a penalty stroke. But the excitement among the dozens of Pakistan fans sank when Ghazanfar’s push failed to beat Davesh Chauhan.
India, on the other hand, continued their efforts to consolidate the lead and came very near to achieving that, but a powerful shot from the right edge of the circle by Gagan Ajit Singh was stopped brilliantly by Ahmed. But Ahmed was unable to keep the Indian attack at bay in the 30th minute when in-form winger Prabjhot Singh sent the ball in to make it 3-1. Pakistan raised the pace of the match in their bid to get a goal before half-time, but even two short corners earned in the final minute of the first session could not help them from reducing the lead.
Four minutes into the second half, experienced mid-fielder Mohammad Saqlain connected the ball into the net with the help of a clever pass from Mohammad Shabbir. With the score 2-3, the match came close to a disastrous end when the players from both sides fought in the Pakistan danger zone. The fight started when Pillay had an exchange of hot words with Ali. Dhillon came in and even tried to slap Dilawar Hussain. He was given a red card, while Ali was sent off with a yellow card.
As Pakistan went all out on the attack, India managed to find empty spaces and got their fourth goal through Jugraj Singh on a short corner rebound in the 54th minute.
In the very next minute, centre-forward Kashif Jawwad scored his first goal of the tour to make it 3-4. He almost got his second three minutes later, but umpire Pullman disallowed his goal that came off an indirect short corner.
However, Pakistan did not have to wait for long for the equaliser when Shabbir Hussain scored one on a long pass from Ghazanfar in the 60th minute.
Pakistan pressed hard for another goal that would have won them a place in the final, but were unable to break the deadlock. They will now take on Australia ‘A’ in the playoff today - a match that will be followed by the final between Australia and India.
Wow ! Finally Aussies got some taste of defeat ![]()
Bravo India :k:
Congrats to India, finally they win a final.
Sigh
Pakistan lost to Australia 'A' :(
Anyway, the young lads put up a good fight throughout the tournament. It was inevitable for Pakistan to win the tournament as the key players, Penalty Corner specialist Sohail Abbas, skipper Muhammad Nadeem; and half back Muhammad Wasim were missing. I must say, the fault is on Sr. Players 'cause they left Pakistan to play league matches in Germany without informing the PHF authorities.
I hope, all these trouble, misunderstaning sorted out before 25th Men's Champions Trophy Hockey tournament, starting on August 16th, 03.
Congrats to India and Indians. :)

once again, our players don't get paid enough playing for their national team so they have to go to overseas to make some extra cash, its the same deal with the cricket teams.
Why can they get more, so they don't have to go overseas.
