Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

More than crying I will be worried about my BP. :p

In all honesty Pakistan has done more than I expected and if they win Semis I will be delighted if not I will be proud of the guys to have come thorough hell over the last few months and put up such a brilliant performance.

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

absolutely. It is amazing how far Pak cricket has come in such a record short amount of time, overcoming some of the more demoralzing problems any team has had to face. Certainly hats of for that and I don't think ANYONE will be really surprised if they manage to lift the world cup this time.

PS: do what I do - take 10mg lisinopril (call your physician first though)

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

Can you also ask him if haroon loghart is also in the loop :D

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

Agreed. However, I still don't think they are capable of chasing scores of 300+. Whether they meet India, SA or SL (yeah, I know that Pak beat them once), they are all capable of posting huge totals. And that puts a huge pressure on Pak bowlers. The likes of Umar Gul & Afridi are just one bad bowling spell away from going home.

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

I think agree but I don't see a lot of teams scoring 300+ against the now greatly motivated Gul/Afridi attack

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

Who do you think is running the show. :rotfl:

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

They have not played India, SA or even England yet. Remember, all the high scoring matches were in Group B.

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

:k:

When this all started…I was also thinking they won’t get this far…and 200% credit to them for showing this level of perf. in the middle.

As someone also said, “No matter what happens they are now 1 of the top 4 teams in the world”

:salute:

well said

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

agreed, our best bet is to bat first and let our bowlers defend. If India puts up a score of 300, that will be that.

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

The pitches in India have been full of runs except for 1. So you are comparing two different pedigree of games.

On the indian pitches Afridi used to open and score 100s off 70 balls just a few years ago...so please don't compare Indian pitches to SL or BD pitches...very different..

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

That's true. we'll see. More than who wins the match, I am hoping that:

1) The crowd appreciates the game regardless on merit

2) Nothing untoward happens (not worried about anything major - just don't want some idiot flinging a soda bottle)

3) INDIA WINS

4) INDIA WINS BIG

5) INDIA THRASH THE BEJESUS OUT OF AFRIDI

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

The Afridi who use to score runs is no longer in the Pak side :)

And remember, Ponting has always score runs against India. And he did that today as well. But that did not stop us from overhauling a pretty competitive score on the Ahmedabad wkt.

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

and on indian pitches (please complete the sentence)

Pakistan have batted on the more difficult and testing Sri Lankan pitches so far. We may not have a Sachin but remember we bat very deep (upto #8). Umar Akmal got some runs the other day against Australia, Asad is consistent plus even the openers Hafeez and Kamran Akmal got into some sort of form against the Windies with that hundred not out partnership

Yes India are still favourites but it is not like we are rank outsiders

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

Aus did not have bad day against Pakistan, it was Pakistan's bowling and fielding which ruined their day.

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

Completely agree :k:

same is true for any bowling/batting line up, one bad day and you are out, its knock-out stage for crying out loud.

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

yay we won
goes to sleep now

Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24

Nah, I reckon we will be better off chasing. Bowl India out for a below par total, Indian bowlers are terrible at defending totals even if they are 300+ (as evidenced in matches against South Africa and England). We batted first against SL and our total wasn't that competitive in the end, India would have chased that. We should do what's been working for us the last two games.

Also my mind goes back to the 2003 world cup, we scored 273 and India barely broke a sweat chasing that against the likes of Wasim, Waqar and Shoaib. They have the same opening pair now as they had then.
