Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
congrats on a victory !
ok this is my observation so far from last two matches.
bowling side= shoib is able to take early wicket but there is no one to follow the pattern. in both games we took early wicket and then we see long partner ship.
batting side= i personally think akmal and butt are good opner but akmal need some time to adjust. they go until 34-38 they can be great opner but akmal better get adjust other wise he should be out of team.
overall= we did great job today, great batting by younus, shoib, misbah, afradi and tanvir. Yousuf didn’t do too good but i don’t expect him to play 50 in every game. so far we are good. waiting for the third match :k:
Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
hey im always advocating for shoaib's place in the side, but thats cause we need a tearaway fast bowler. not another medium pacer, we have quite a few of those.
he was fast first match and thats the role hes supposed to play. soften up the batsmen on one end with pace, even if you dont get wickets. but today even in the first spell (with the long runup) he was 143. not irfan pathan-slow, but not great.
lets hope he picks up his game in the matches to come.
*He will be fine.
I was thinking, maybe this should be a strategy to counter the slow overrate; long run up from Shoaib at the beginning where he is looking for wickets, and a shorter one at the death where more control is required. I know Pakistan won't always be pressed for time when it comes to bowling overs, but Shoaib should follow this strategy nonetheless.*
Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
yeah. plus his pace doesnt drastically drop with the short runup too, he was hovering around 140. if he can get good with the short runup then he can probably rely more on it as he gets older and extend his career.
Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
Just a polite reminder that the Pakistan is literally on a verge of a civil war. While celebrating, please do not forget that and do not underestimate your role. Thanks.
Yeah time to give Aalsi, Raza Pehelvi, Saleem and antiobl a hard time again in PA :D
Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
Bowling wise we were so horrible in the middle overs that it was so demoralizing to watch.Heads down, cluelessbowling. It was only the reintroduction of Gul who brought spark and then Shoaib and Tanveer did wonderfully well. Rao was so disappointing that it could have hurt badly at the end. How could you allow Harbhajan to score 38 off 20 is beyond me.
But Batting wise, Salman once again looked so positive and confident. Playing against India brings the best out of him and once again he provided a good start. I hope he continues his form so that we have a decent consistent opener. I wonder what Ehsan bhai had to say :p
Younis Khan was truly amazing. He was abysmal in last message but top notch here. His acceleration wit misbah was a treat. I wonder why Misbah does not play like this often. He was back to his t20 best; improvised, found gaps, ran wonderfully.
Afridi owed this performance to his team, with his batting. His six against RP was the highlight and the way he treated Zaheer khan was a dish!!!
For once, our team finished a match in a very tight situation and this augurs well for the future. Lawson must be really happy. I hope we build on this win and go on to win the series.
Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
Let's see if Malik gets a fine or gets banned because of slow over-rate. Hopefully he will get away with it and gets to enjoy the win.
That should be the least of his worries now. He should be so grateful that the umpires did not spoil the game by docking his team 1-2 overs as was the case in 2005 when we made 319/7 off 49 overs (were docked one over for a slow over-rate)

I am surprised you are not aware of three years old rule that guilty team will not be docked overs from now on and will only be fined. The match you mentioned was 49 overs each.

India, Pakistan fined for slow over-rate
The India and Pakistan teams have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the second ODI at Mohali on Thursday.
ICC match referee Roshan Mahanama of the Emirates Elite Panel imposed the fines after both the teams were ruled to be one over short of their targets when time allowances were taken into consideration.
In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
As such, rival captains Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Shoaib Malik have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee while their players have each received five per cent fines.
Mr Mahanama spoke to both captains after the match and reminded them of their sides' obligations to complete their overs in the time allocated in the future.

Thanks for the double-correction here :) I saw some guppies discussing the same here hence thought otherwise but to be honest I did not realise that the rule had been changed.
Even though docking the guilty team a certain no. of overs literally spoils the game I am not sure if I would entirely agree with the new rule. That's like a licence to the offending captain to go as slow as you please but ofcourse staying within limits.
Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
so you dont think he was bowling much slower than he used to?
gul was consistently faster than him even in the first spell. isnt that shoaibie's whole selling point
bhaijan malik was literally begging everyone including the Indian batsmenso that the innings can be ended early and thas why Shoaib was bowling with a shorter run-up but even then he was the most effective bowler.
Indeed it was a team win and Shoaib played a big part in it thru his special second spell.
Re: 2nd ODI: India v Pakistan at Mohali - Nov 8, 2007
For the record Pakistan were 116 for 3 after 25 overs and looking rank outsiders. In the next 24.5 overs we scored 206 more runs at a rate of 8.4 RPO which shows just what can be achieved if you have wickets in hand. The middle overs are so crucial esp. in a big run chase.

Some of these ICC rules are so stupid, its not even funny
