Pak Army trying to salvage some pride (or maybe trying to raise the morale of the soldiers on the front lines) although every one know their capabilities and empty threats…Thank goodness after every such attack our army threatens to retaliate the next time…

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

The relationship of Pakistan and America in the region is like that of a cry baby and bully. If there is a cry baby in school the bully will disturb him more so that he came make him cry and enjoy, that's exactly how the Americans treat Pakistan. Our army used to tell us that thy cannot have the drones stopped (as they cannot pick up a fight with the Americans). Now how can they ensure that the NATO will not attack them in the future?

The army used to tell us that they are helpless against drones, now we agree with them that they are really helpless even God does not help those who don't help themselves.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

unbelievable even my cellphone has basic gps and gprs and the Americans could'nt tell with their multi million dollar helicopters with latest technology pak soldiers on ground??

This is looks like punishment from allah(swt) for taking sides with the enemies of allah(swt) time for pak army to wake up and stop being slaves and fighting Americas War!

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Very sad to hear this, but then Americans kill Canadian/NATO in 'friendly fire', not NATO killing Pakistanis in 'friendly fire'. And our army will retaliate any 'future' attacks.

Kayani is walking in brown pants these days so nobody can find out when he p00ps in pants.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

A very sad moment. Pakistan army must rethink on its role in Afghan war. Pakistan is Nato 's helper in Afghan war. Why is Nato bombing Pakistan army which is its ally. Perhaps its high time to dedciate this song to Pakistan Army’s Nato bombing Casuality

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Pakistan is saying that they will ask Americans to vacate Shamsi airbase (which is used for drone attacks within Pakistan). Ahmed Mukhtar in June 2011 claimed that the Americans will leave the base soon, they havent left during the past 5 months.

**US troops to vacate Shamsi base soon: Mukhtar
**
ISLAMABAD, June 29: Pakistan has asked the United States to withdraw its forces from the Shamsi airbase. It will be vacated soon, while the Ghazi airbase has already been handed over to the Pakistan Air Force.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Kiyani and Pasha got extension because there was no capable officer in the entire army who can master such blunders, the events of May, numerous cross border raids and the drones, the killing in balochistan, none of them have been handled the way both of them handled them.. both of them have been out there, serving US interest at the cost of the lives of Pakistanies, be it from the armed forces or common Pakistani, for these services both should be given top notch award for incompetency and cowardliness...

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

The Americans have been using Shamsi Airbase for carrying out drone attacks in FATA.

By allowing them drone attacks we have already ceded our sovereignty to the Americans, what’s the big deal if one attack misfired and hit the army check post?

what sovereignty havent the Americans carried out drone attacks in Mohmand before?

Our Army says that they cannot shoot down unmanned drones as that would be declaration of war, so how can they shoot down helicopters which have NATO forces in them. Since that would be declaration of war.

If Americans shoot Pakistani soldiers it doesnt matter, but if Pakistan shoots down Americans thats declaration of war.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

^^ There was reason Kiyani and Pasha were granted extension... and Kiyani and Pasha are doing their jobs to prove that they worth the extensions..

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Last I read, supplies from Chaman are also blocked.
NATO terminals are closed.
Deadline given to vacate Shamsi airbase within 15 days.

But I say this is not enough...

Pakistan must demand:

  • unconditional appology
  • action against everyone who was involved in this
  • A solid guarantee that something like this will not happen in the future
  • A strong compensation for every one who was martyred and for those who are seriously injured.

Moreover, we should withdraw from co-operation with NATO and so called WOT. No NATO supplies should be allowed through Pakistan. Why should we allow the weapons that are going to be used against us to pass through our country?

I think we should also stop pasting any contents from the media in US, and treat them as sheer propaganda.

I was so enraged to read the headline from NYT pasted by you " 'Pakistan says' 7 soldiers killed". And our media, oh man! They would have given word-by-word point of view of our enemies without bothering the recursions for our country!

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

As far as shamsi airbase is concerned, Ahmed Mukhtar asked the Americans to vacate it in June but they refused. So how can Pakistan force them to leave now?

Friday, July 01, 2011

**WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: The United States is rejecting demands from Pakistani officials that American personnel abandon a military base used by the CIA to stage drone strikes against suspected militants, US officials told Reuters.

US personnel have not left the remote military installation known as Shamsi Air Base and there is no plan for them to do so, said a US official familiar with the matter, who asked for anonymity to discuss sensitive material.

“That base is neither vacated nor being vacated,” the official said. The information was confirmed by a second US official. The US declaration that drone operations in Pakistan will continue unabated is the latest twist in a fraught relationship between security authorities in Washington and Islamabad, which has been under increasing strain for months. **

Regarding the Shamsi base in particular, Pakistani officials have frequently suggested it is being shuttered, comments that may be aimed at quieting domestic opposition to US military operations using Pakistani soil.

Earlier this week, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar told the ‘Financial Times’ that Pakistan had already stopped US drone operations there. On Thursday, Mukhtar told Reuters: “When they (US forces) will not operate from there, no drone attacks will be carried out.”

He said Islamabad had been pressuring the US to vacate the base even before the May 2 commando raid in which US Navy SEAL commandos killed Osama bin Laden. After the raid, Mukhtar said, “We told them again.”

A senior Pakistani military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that when US forces first launched counter-terrorism operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan “provided Americans two bases in Jacobabad and Shamsi. Jacobabad base has been vacated for long time ago, but Shamsi is still with them.”

“They are vacating it,” the official insisted. “Shamsi base was for logistic purpose. They also used it for drones for some time but no drones have been flown from there.” The official said no base in Pakistan was presently used by the Americans for drone operations. But he did not give a precise date for when drones supposedly stopped operating from Shamsi.

The US officials disputed that account. If anything, the Obama administration is moving to a counter-terrorism strategy based more on drone strikes and other covert operations than on deploying large numbers of troops.

On Wednesday, John Brennan, President Barack Obama’s top counter-terrorism advisor, promised that in the tribal regions along the Afghan/Pakistan border, the US would continue to “deliver precise and overwhelming force against al-Qaeda.”

“And when necessary, as the president has said repeatedly, if we have information about the whereabouts of al-Qaeda, we will do what is required to protect the United States - as we did with bin Laden,” Brennan said in a speech.

Brennan rejected suggestions that US drone attacks had caused numerous civilian casualties, claiming that the US had been “exceptionally precise and surgical” in its operations. “Not a single collateral death” had been caused by US counter-terrorism operations over the last year, he said.

Meanwhile, reports in ‘The New York Times’ and ‘Los Angeles Times’ said the Obama administration had concluded in a newly released counter-terrorism strategy that precision strikes and raids, rather than large land wars, were the most effective way to defeat al-Qaeda.

A top national security adviser indicated that the US will hit al-Qaeda hard enough and often enough with increased numbers of special operations forces and speedy deployments of unique assets (presumably drone aircraft).

‘The Times’ quoted John Brennan as underscoring that military commandos and intelligence operatives were working more closely than ever before on the battlefield. Brennan, a longtime former CIA officer, spoke at the Paul H Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, as the White House made public the new strategy on its website.

“Al-Qaeda seeks to bleed us financially by drawing us into long, costly wars that also inflame anti-American sentiment,” John Brennan, President Obama’s counter- terrorism adviser, said. “Going forward, we will be mindful that if our nation is threatened, our best offence won’t always be deploying large armies abroad but delivering targeted, surgical pressure to the groups that threaten us,” he said, unveiling the new strategy, according to a report in ‘The Los Angeles Times’.

Brennan said the recently announced troop reduction in Afghanistan would have no impact on US counterterrorism strategy in that country and Pakistan, where, he said, the US has been delivering precise and overwhelming force against militants.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Inna Lillah hi wa ilayhi rajeeon.

Time to wake up. This is becoming a very bloody affair, terrorism of the highest order. Now Pakistan has to take action. Whatever reasons the US had for staying in the region are long gone. Time for them and our people to pack thier bags and get lost.

If no action is taken then mark my words the nations will drown in blood.

Yes I have read in some news article that Chaman border has been closed too this time around.

As far as Shamsi airbase is concerned I have posted two articles here, one dated June 29 in which Ahmed Mukhtar claimed that the Americans have been asked to vacate the base. And another one date 1st July in which the Americans refused to vacate the base. The statement that the Americans will be asked to vacate the base means that we couldnt have that done in five months how can we manage it now?

As far as the demands that Pakistan could make, I think we might get a feeble apology (that too if we are lucky), otherwise I dont think anything will change. We will forget the matter in a few days and will be reminded in the future when the situation repeats itself and we will again go through the statements that we are seeing today.
