Eight Pakistani troops killed in Nato helicopter shelling

**YAKKAGHUND: Nato helicopters from Afghanistan intruded into northwest Pakistan and attacked a military check post near the border on Saturday, killing eight troops and wounding four, Pakistani intelligence officials said.
**
A Pakistani military spokesman confirmed the pre-dawn attack in the tribal region of Mohmand and said casualties had been reported, but gave no details.

“Nato helicopters carried out an unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on a Pakistani check post in Mohmand agency, casualties have been reported and details are awaited,” the spokesman told Reuters.

**Two intelligence officials in the region said that eight Pakistani troops had been killed and four wounded in the attack on the Salala check post, about 2.5 kilometres from the Afghan border.
**
The attack took place around 02:00 a.m. in the Baizai area of Mohmand, where Pakistani troops are engaged in fighting Taliban militants.

A spokesman for the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force in Kabul said the coalition there was aware of “an incident” and was gathering more information.

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

15 soldiers killed as per the latest updates...

During this month only 22 NATO soldiers have been killed so far(which would be the lowest figure for the month of november during the past 3 years), and on the other hand they have got rid of an almost similar number of our soldiers in once incident alone...Bravo pak army!

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

According to new york times this checkpost was recently setup by Pak army to check the infiltration of taleban from Afghanistan.

The Americans have pulled their forces out from the Eastern Provinces of Afghanistan, and hence providing safe havens for anti Pakistan elements there. Now when Pakistan has setup their posts along the border to control the infiltration, they have attacked them as well. They cant carry out operations against the terrorists in Eastern Afghanistan but they can cross over the border and attack the forces stationed there which are trying to save Pakistan from the savages holed up in Afghanistan.

Pakistan Says 7 Troops Killed in NATO Helicopter Attack](http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2011/11/26/world/asia/AP-AS-Pakistan.html?_r=1&hp)
**The checkpoint that was attacked had been recently set up in Salala village by the Pakistan army to stop Taliban militants holed up in Afghanistan from crossing the border and staging attacks, said two government administrators in Mohmand, Maqsood Hasan and Hamid Khan.**The Pakistan military has blamed Pakistani Taliban militants and their allies for killing dozens of security forces in such cross-border attacks since the summer. Pakistan has criticized Afghan and foreign forces for not doing enough to stop the attacks, which it says have originated from the Afghan provinces of Kunar and Nuristan. The U.S. has largely pulled out of these provinces, leaving the militants in effective control of many areas along the border.

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

What is stopping Pak Army from retaliating and post was at a very sensitive region, they should have retaliated.

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

^ well the higher command of the army will know what they are doing on the borders when they cant defend themselves.

Anyways, the number of casualties have been increased to 25 now.

Pakistan has again suspended NATO supplies for umpteenth time (lets see how many days this embargo will remain).

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

now america has no morale to ask for pakistan support in war of terror, how can idiots not know the position of allies posts .

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

^ are you serious? This is neither the first incident nor will be the last! Our bonds are so strong with the Americans that even if they kill the whole army we will still remain allies...

The next few days there will be a flurry of visitors from America, and then everything will be hunky dory like nothing happened. The NATO supplies will open in a couple of days, I really don't understand why they have suspended them in the first place.

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

This is funny as yesterday General Kiyani and General Allen (ISAF head) were discussing border control…

http://www.dawn.com/2011/11/26/border-control-discussed-with-isaf.html

Border control discussed with IsafBaqir Sajjad Syed | Front Page | From the Newspaper

**ISLAMABAD, Nov 25: As Taliban continue to travel back and forth across the Afghan border, Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and the commander of coalition forces in Afghanistan, Gen John Allen, discussed the issue on Friday and the need for tighter measures to block the militant traffic.
**
**Gen Kayani and General Allen “discussed measures concerning coordination, communication and procedures between Pakistan Army, Isaf and Afghan Army aimed at enhancing border control on both sides,” an ISPR statement issued after the meeting said.
**
**Gen Allen was here for “regular operational consultations”, a Pakistani officer said without detailing what new measures were being discussed to disrupt the militants cross-border movement which has been identified as one of the most critical factors sustaining the insurgency in eastern Afghanistan. ** While the overall security scenario in other parts of Afghanistan has lately shown slight improvement, the situation in eastern provinces remains tenuous with rising cross-border incidents.**“In the past week alone, the Haqqani network has murdered 20 civilians in RC East, and it has assassination squads working in some of my provinces. (His provinces? Yes he is the owner of Afghanistan now!) They also recently blew up a girls school in my region.

So has Haqqani intimidated the populace in parts of RC East? Absolutely,” Maj-Gen Daniel Allyn, commander of the Joint Task Force with responsibility for Regional Command East said in an interview.

**Gen Allen, a source said, had been telling Pakistani military commanders that the situation in the east was one of the major challenges in the way of completing US drawdown by 2014.

Unlike in the past when Pakistani military criticised the coalition forces for not taking sufficient measures to interdict the Taliban as they entered Afghanistan, Nato/Isaf, an American military source claimed, had significantly enhanced security layers involving Afghan security forces and coalition troops.“It is extremely important for expanding the Kabul security zone,” he added.

Pakistani Taliban, who had fled operations in the tribal belt and Swat and are said to be having sanctuaries in eastern Afghan provinces over the past few months have launched major attacks also into Pakistani territory.

The Endgame?

Planning the ‘endgame’: Kayani meets NATO chief in Afghanistan
**ISLAMABAD: ****The head of the Pakistan Army met the head of Nato’s Afghan forces on Friday, in yet another sign that previously damaged ties between the military establishments of Pakistan and the US are healing.

**

**General John Allen, Commander International Security Assistance Force (Isaf), met General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi to discuss measures to strengthen security at the Pak-Afghan border.

**
**“The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed measures concerning coordination, communication and procedures between the Pakistan army, Isaf and the Afghan army, aimed at enhancing border control on both sides,” said a brief statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
**

A military official confirmed that the talks were focused on improving the level of cooperation and coordination between the Pakistani, American and Afghan forces operating on both sides of the border.

**The sides are in fact working to bring back counter-terrorism cooperation to the level it was at prior to the Abbottabad raid conducted by US Navy SEALs which killed al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in early May.

**
**The top secret operation severely strained relations between the key allies in the battle against militancy. However, the relationship has been gradually improving between the two countries since the high-level visit last month by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
**

**Clinton was unusually accompanied by the US Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff and the head of the CIA to discuss the ‘blueprint’ for the Afghan endgame.
**

During the visit, Pakistan and the US agreed to take fresh measures on both sides of the Afghan border to stop movements of militants and cross border attacks.
**“There has been considerable improvement on that front,” said the official requesting anonymity.
**

The visit of the top US commander comes just after the conclusion of counter-terrorism exercises between Pakistan and China. These were the biggest ever counter-terrorism exercises between the regional allies.

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

casualties are now upto 25.

Inna lillah hey wa ina elahey rajaoun.

Wait for CENTCOM to come and issue an official long winded nothing reply and than run away again.

Pakistan should retaliate against this unprovoked naked aggression. It is good to see that they have stopped the NATO trucks crossing over.

Inna Lillah Hi wa Inna Ilahi Rajayon!

Rest in peace brothers! Those who sacrificed their lives for their motherland!

Stop the supplies and make it really hurt this time!

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

This is what will happen next. Pakistani politicians will announce that it was an attack on the sovereignty of the country. Athar will make an announcement that protest will be launched with ISAF. The nato supply will remain blocked for a few days. Nato commander will assure pakistani military establishment that they will be "careful" in future and that the loss is regretted. They will also throw a few more bones of dollars our way and everything will go back to normal.

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

One thing I don't understand is that why do the rulers try to fool us? The NATO supplies are closed in khyber due to security as they say, what about chaman. Are they still continuing from there, like the previous closures of the borders?

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

I hope Kiyani is happy now, and Pasha must be sending sweets of congratulations...

Seriously, had Kiyani and Pasha doing their job as it should have been done and have ordered to knocked down few of NATO helicopters when they crossed the line in recent past, they might have not dared to cross the border again let alone attacking and destroying Pakistani checkpost...

But i know this Begharat Militay leadership will block the NATO supply for few days and then after a "Sarcastic" apology from the NATO high command, they will continue to supply...

Jackals and Owls leading Pak army, this is to say the least...

Sometime it feels like that like Mushy, Kiyani is fooling the nation and army

re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

That blockade is also a hogwash as well, since they block one route the traffic continues from Chaman (who knows if it increases from Chaman during this patch). The NATO knows very well the capabilities and auqat of our army, anyways lets see for how many days the Khyber border remains closed. It was 10 days the last time, maybe 20-25 days now (1 day per soldier).
