Re: 2011 Brides
^ you'll get that bridal glow automatically. I did nothing a month before mine, and was crazy stressed and running around working...but come my wedding week....I was glowing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so no worries. :)
Hi guys!
sorry its been a while...but just wanted to update all. Alhumdillah my wedding went well.....and I am now a MRS. :) yay
lot of stress went into planning, and living in Pakistan for a month before the wedding had its ups and downs. Tons of family drama...fights....and overwhelming emotions.
However, now looking back...everything went well and the wedding was a great hit! I loved my decor (half of the fights involved decor ideas) Parents were like.. "why are you so focused on decor?" hehe but the end result was great and I am living in Pakistan for few months with hubby and his family so that's a new adventure.
Mashallah he is treating me really nicely....even if we do fight...its usually my fault! :) lol....its the heat I tell you!!!!!!!!!!!!!and the crazy load shedding!
Honeymoon was wonderful , and now I'm back with in-laws studying while hubby is at office.
Lessons learned:
I wasted ALOT of time on dress planning. Honest to God there is so much variety here that any design you already picked out, is thrown out the window. I just went to a boutique and they showed me a great outfit.....ordered it and it turned out lovely. A nice anar shade of red, made in a Farsi lengha with contrast of Teal/green with Kundan & gold work.
I had tons of folders on my laptop dedicated to wedding, but looking back I think they were just there for inspiration. When you get to the main shopping area....you'll just pick something that you love and it will turn out great!. However if you want, you can design your dream outfit, but don't waste your months before the wedding on this....spend more quality time with your family instead.
Its fun to read all these threads in the wedding forum, but trust me, the whole event will go by quickly and i dont' think I even was thinking about my outfit, decor, food, or anything when i was up on the stage. Its a very weird and nerve wrecking experience to say the least :) Its ok to get ideas here and there but don't stress out and try to plan every single detail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything will fall into place, just make sure you are happy b/c if you are not, it will show on your face.
My mehndi outfit was a gharara and I even tried out the black outline mehndi. At first I was skeptical...but it looked nice in pictures.
Pictures, decor, food.... my hubby and family handled it. Mostly friends of my hubby knew people so booked our photographer after seeing his previous work....and he was amazingggggggggggggg! Alot of stuff in Pakistan is through word of mouth and it can get a bit frustrating because they work on their own time and schedule.....and it can seem a bit a unprofessional...but end result was great (if you keep bugging them!) Sis-in-law recommended a parlor which cost so much less than Madheas (my original plan) and my make-up was wonderful! So I would ask your family and friends in Pakistan, instead of just going with all brand stuff or what you see online, and remember to bargain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Hmmmm... I got alot of fancy lawn outfits made from my side b/c its soooooooooooooooo freaking hot here and i'm just wearing those. hehe my sis-in law wants me to be all saj dhaj all the time, but its too hot to wear so much jewelry, make-up and heavy clothes.
So i just chill in my lawn outfits during the day when its just mother in law and me, and then get all pretty before hubby comes home from office. :-D
hmmmm what else, married life is great so far...but can get a bit annoying to live with a guy. They never listen esp when it comes to putting wet towels away and their shoes!!!!! but its a lot of fun trying to understand each other and it does take some time to find your groove...but I must say that its a wonderful feeling to have someone who loves you and looks out for you.
My family went back soon after the wedding, I do miss them, but my in-laws are great and they make sure that I am happy here.
I'll be in Pakistan for few months...studying, along with being a new dhulan, then head back to school. I'm gonna file the visa soon for hubby, so any advice on if i should file from Pakistan or file back in states...let me know!!!!!!!!!
Hope all the newly 2011 brides are happy in their new homes and I'm sure your weddings went well.
I'll try to come back and update, but its hard to be on ghup shup too much right now :-) so sorry in advance if i don't respond quickly.
lots of love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S Its almost a month now since the wedding...where the time go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
