In western countries you never see a "Chief Justice" -
yea..lot of other things u dont see in western countries and if u happen to be in one, and adore the pakistani system so much, I invite u to implement it in the country of ur residence.
I'm not advocating the MQM by any means. All I'm concerned with is the present face of Karachi, buses, cars, bikes on fire, a lively city deserted by the citizens, firing on the main artery, deaths shown on TV, dead bodies arriving in hospitals.
It's unnatural to think its just the MQM to blame. All parties, all engaged in exchange of firing as well as the CJ are to be blamed equally.
With thugs like MQM trying thier level best to disrupt the peace with alleged governement support ( the crack down last nite was directed at all parties except MQM )
One of my firends in one of the hit area just called that motorist with MQM flags are firing bullets in thier area.(Guru Mandir)
Whenever the MQM, Mush's favourite, is involved, there is always killings.
In western countries you never see a "Chief Justice" - who is supposed to be neutral and above any bias attend/lead opposition party rallies in city after city. The CJ has become the most active politcal personality in Pakistan now, and it's time he formed his own party rather than dragging the judiciary down to the street level for his personal ego.
i heard the entire speech of CJ when he came to lahore and he never said any political thing... many of my neighbours went to greet him and honestly nobody has asked them.. and they all belong to different parties... and above all they are technical people... software engineers, masters, MBA degree holders and working in reputable companies...
LUMS foreign professor dedicated his car to the people, not only that but he urged his students to go and welcome the CJ...
I think you have to agree the people are not behind him because of his political biasness but because of his unbiasness in hundreds of cases where he stood for the downtrodden people...
You donot teach the wrong person by repeating the same mistake..

The hypocritical statement's from this Mush lover never end
MQM as ever had pre-planned this blood shed.. they should had gone to Islamabad to lick boots of the general than starting this killing spree in Karachi.. Zia made MQM - Musharaf is strenghthing this treacherous party!
Once again my city, Karachi is burning. Once again, city air is filled wih guns blazing. Once again, vultures of death are circling Karachi. Once again, we will have to bury the dead. Once agin, mothers will be waiting for their loved ones who shall never return. Once again, fathers will have to bury their sons. Once again, hate will engulf the city. Once again, we will have to wake up another day, once again we will have to walk with our heads bowed in shame. Once again, my heart weeps for the city that gave me so much.
Re: 12 May - MQM Rally for Independence of Judiciary.
Compare peaceful MQM rallies to the violence of rallies in Punjab. Says it all.
I have never seen such a biased view of things Mister. There have been rallies all over Pakistan in support of CJ which are not for the person, per se but on a principled issue; against the un-called for government/army intervention in the judiciary as well as other affairs of the state with which it has no concern.
Compare today's situation with the rallies taken out in support of CJ in other cities of Pakistan. Why has MQM blocked all the roads and why aren't they allowing the lawyers to carry out their procession towards the Sindh High Court. ?
That is because they DON'T understand that there is something called peaceful co-existence. I feel hurt and helpless...I could have been the target of some 'karkun' as I was out early in the morning only to realize that there was a curfew like situation in the city. This is sick!

[mod]We don't want these 12 May (or any other) threads to be derailed by any regular anti-MMA, anti-MQM, anti-Govt, anti-opposition, anti-CJ, anti-Army/Mush or ethnic flaming, insults or biased commentary.
There's enough of that everywhere already.
Share your views and concerns on the subjects at a higher level of understanding please.
All pointless, irresponsible, weightless and derailing or insulting posts risk being removed or warned against. [/mod]
Even if we accept that the dictator is the worst that has happened to Pakistan, which by the way can never be a true assessment given the higher quality of *thugs *and *goons *our nation mass produces, where does the CJ's actions make him stand in comparison. If Musharaf is acting crazy, Iftikhar is acting retarded. If Mush is an opportunist, Iftikhar is a manipulator.
This is all highly absurd and unnerving.
Karachi is burning...
Haris I see it from a very different angle. If he backs out at this moment, if had canceled his trip at this juncture than this entire movement against the unconstitutional government of Mush would have lost momentum. It is NOT him but the people who are supporting him throughout the length and breadth of Pakistan, who would have felt cheated and besides why should Karachi be any different from the rest of the country. Manipulator and opportunist, they all are but lets play by the rules which in my view must be same across the board. Even the government supporters, the PML-Q leaders criticised the MQM and asked Mush to stop them from playing with the fire. Uff, I am so sad :--(
well said minerva. thing is..CJP never asked anyone to come to his rallies. Wherever he goes..people line up. Same can’t be said abt Mushy’s rallies. Just take a look at today’s Dawn and u get the idea. People have to be dragged to his rallies. Anyone not able to appreciate this simple but critical difference is not being objective.
Not a single person was killed during the 27 hours that CJ took to travel from Islamabad to Lahore. The only violent incidents that happened were probably baton-charging of police at protesters at certain places. Here the CJ has not even come out of the airport and violence has gripped the city (15 killed so far according to reports).
The only major difference between his other trips and this trip is very clear: MQM
What was MQM trying to achieve by announcing its rallies the same day as CJ's? And now people are blaming CJ for the violence? What if the opposition had done the same that MQM/government did? What if MQM had announced rallies first on the 12th and opposition would have said later that they also want to do protests on the same day? There would have been a huge uproar as to how opposition is trying to sabotage and incite violence. Police would have put all opposition members in jail and only MQM would have been allowed to take out rallies on the 12th. Now MQM has done this with clear intentions to create mayhem and violence, and some people here instead of blaming MQM are blaming CJ!

Had they have this this much common sense would they have been supporting him...
