I do not like today’s PPP as its corrupt to the core. And thankfully i am not living in the past as some PPP workers are. But I would never deny the fact that ZAB was one of the greatest leaders of our country and will always be remembered as such.
Lets keep this thread to list his positive contributions.
If we can dish out the positives and negatives of jinnah, then surely bhutta is not bigger than him is he?
THere is no denying the fact that for all his steel mills (ha only 1 :p ) and nuclear program, Pakistan's economy was halved because he didn't want to let mujib rule as PM and sit as leader of opposition. There is quota system and nationalization policies as well.
I agree that ZAB was a powerful leader with excellent speaking skills, someone who could raise crowds with speeches and a very good motivator. I don't want to get to negatives in this thread otherwise we will have same 'jiyala vs non-jiyala' debate like every other thread.
Yup there were positives and they must be appreciated. He had charisma to raise the crowds and nuclear technology and steel mill were few of his good projects..
sad that he was not allowed to continue.......
we might have had a different Pakistan today.
I dont think Pakistan would have been better if he had continued. Zia was wrong to overthrow him, and Bhutto's trial was not entirely fair either. However, in a free and fair election, Bhutto would have been thrown out easily. 1977 elections were 95% rigged in order to ensure not just a victory for PPP, but an absolute majority, which he needed in order to amend the constitution and give himself absolute dictatorial powers.
Pakistan could not afford a civilian dictator at the helm. He would have been thrown out via free and fair elections easily, had Zia not done so militarily. He wanted to run a one man show, which was his biggest mistake.
Bhutto was a great mind, but he used his prowess for the wrong reasons.

Do remember that he got the ball rolling on the blasphemy law, even if they became much strict in Zia's rule, if you are against that sort of thing. You might not be since many jamatis support Imran khan as well. Pakistan was "liberal" but zamindari was still there and quota system + nationalization was destroying the economy. I think that ultimately bhutta had the qadaffi or Mubarak complex of holier than thou who would not leave power voluntarily.
One of the most over rated politician we ever had!
Full of Corruption!
Shame on You
Even Zia and his whole machinery ,who killed him ,could not lrvrl any corruption charges on him and you wrote full of corruption with two strokes on your computer .
If you can not admit his greatness it is alright , But please , don't try to change the history .

he was the best politician and leader we had. None and I mean none of your present lot can even come close to him. Yes he had his drawbacks but his positives outweighed his negatives by a mile. If he was alive today Pakistan would not have been in the mess it is and he certainly would not have been an apologist for taliban like some leaders today.
