I also think it is a bit unfair to give all the credit to Bhutto for making us a nuclear power. The balance of power in the sub-continent meant we had to go down that route at some point in time. If not ZAB it might have been someone-else pouncing on the opportunity - Zia, BB or NS. Let’s not forget the real people who actually made it possible, brains like AQ Khan among other scientists. Condemn AQ Khan as much as you like for his proliferation activities but that still does not change the fact that he was the main architect of our nuclear technology. Without AQ Khan there w’d be no nuclear bomb just like Samar Mubarak Mohmand is the main architect of our nuclear missile technology. It’s a bit like giving all the credit for media freedom to Musharraf. That w’d have happened any way because of the information age we are living in now. If not then it might have happened 5 or 6 years down the line but it would have happened. I know Musharraf took some desperate steps in 2007 but by and large all these different media channels flourished during his time.
