Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

  • PPP co-chairman agrees to impeachment following Kh Asif’s assurance that coalition has strength to sack president
  • PPP says coalition partners to be consulted before today’s meeting
  • PML-N leader says coalition to prepare charge sheet against Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday agreed in principle to impeach President Pervez Musharraf, provided that all coalition partners assured their support for this endeavour.

He conceded this conditional agreement to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif during a “make-or-break” meeting that was meant to resolve contentious issues between the two coalition partners, including the sacked judges’ reinstatement and the impeachment of the president.

Kh Asif’s assurance: Sources privy to the meeting told Daily Times that the agreement came about after senior PML-N leader Khawaja Asif assured Zardari that the coalition partners had sufficient strength to impeach President Musharraf if the PPP took the initiative. “Both parties agreed that the issue of reinstating the sacked judges could easily be resolved once they succeeded in getting rid of President Musharraf,” the sources added.

According to the sources, Nawaz also complained to Zardari about not taking his party into confidence over the military operations in FATA and NWFP, and an increase in petroleum prices. “Syed Naveed Qamar told Nawaz that [PML-N] Senator Ishaq Dar had been apprised of the petroleum price increase,” the sources added.

Consultations: Following the meeting, which lasted six hours, PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar told reporters that the “discussions were held in a very cordial manner and were very positive, frank and productive”. “Major progress was made as broad consensus emerged on key issues,” he added.

He said the talks would resume on Wednesday at Zardari House at 11.30am, adding that prior to this, the remaining coalition partners, including Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, would be consulted. “Mian Raza Rabbani and Ishaq Dar were assigned to initiate contact with the coalition partners,” the sources added.

Charge sheet: Khawaja Asif told Geo News that all parties in the ruling alliance would prepare a charge sheet against Musharraf and have an open debate on it. He said the president would be allowed to defend himself, adding that evidence was being gathered for the charge sheet.

Also on Tuesday, Information Minister Sherry Rehman told a private TV channel that the meeting between Zardari and Nawaz was “very positive and cordial”. She told Geo News that the agenda of the meeting was to evolve a joint strategy on national issues, APP reported.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Karachi to meet the ANP president, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the nation would soon hear “good news” regarding the reinstatement of the sacked judges. He said that he hoped the ruling coalition would remain intact. Meanwhile, Geo News reported that Nawaz has summoned a party meeting at 10.30am in Murree today (Wednesday), ahead of his meeting with Zardari. The channel said Nawaz would seek his party leaders’ advice during the meeting. zulfiqar ghuman/daily times monitor

Re: Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

Above was the basis of forming the coalition, iam sure the disagreement will be on the tactics, and things will prolong, same as the SC-Crisis.

Long live our politcians.

It is clear from Zardari's actions that he does not want to really impeach the president or restore the judges....the only time he starts singing these mantras is when he wants to have some concessions from Musharraf/west....while Nawaz Sharif knowingly is singing to Zardari tunes...just to safeguard his government in Punjab and his new found status of power....I totally agree with you that nothing is going to change and things will just prolong.....the aspirations of the people will not be fullfilled anytime in near future....military will continue to rule Pakistan through back doors...politicians will remain power seekers and will innovate new methods to add new billions to their wealth....people of Pakistan will remain hostage to these mafias...military-politicians-jihadis....and people of Pakistan will remain the most misreable/helpless creatures living on this planet..

This well summarizes the situation in this country.

I agree we should not expect much & it so sad that these 3 clowns are holding destiny our nation in their hands.

Ruling coalition’s decisive talks get underway

SLAMABAD: The decisive talks of ruling coalition government are underway at Zardari House in the federal capital today.

President’s impeachment and judges’ reinstatement top the list in the talks.

Mian Nawaz Sharif, after having consultations with senior party leaders, has arrived at Zardari House. He is accompanied by Ch. Nisar Ali, Jawed Hashmi, Khawaja Asif and Ishaq Dar, sources told.

Strict security measures have been taken on this occasion. Sources said that PML-N has decided not to deviate from its principled stand regarding judges’ restoration and other issues.

Nawaz league would try to convince the coalition partners for implementing the Murree Declaration and keep the democratic set up running.

JUI-Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has also reached Zardari House to join the decisive talks.

^^^What if they really want to impeach Mush? They can not fool all the people at all the times.

Re: Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

Having Fazlo in the meeting clearly means that Zardari want to add some weight on his side, otherwise, none of these were consulted during Murree or Dubai Declarations.

ah! the magic word "PROVIDED".

na nou mann tail hu ga na raadha nachai ge. the clowns did it again.

I really wish to see PPP and PMLN go for impeachment of President, sooner the better. I want to see them calling their bluff and face the music if they do not succeed.

Re: Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

Sa1eem, whether they succeed or not is one thing, but if they try, it will just expose the face of a zaleel person, who would be ready to do just about 'anything' for his kursi. Yes, we are talking about that blot known as Musharraf.

Re: Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

^^ If nly they were serious for impeachment, then, they shouldn't have called fazlo in the meeting, it was mans business and clowns were not required, now, fazlo will comeout saying something else, nawaz saying something, zaradari saying something, and then...

Spock: Every honest person is 'Zaleel' for criminals and every crook thinks that law is 'zaleel'.

As for sitting on power, neither crook Zardari, Thug Nawaz, neither their parties of thieves and Liars gave Presidential power to President. Those who voted for Musharraf and supported President are still with President and if these two immoral crooks have enough votes then they can try to impeach, else they should shut their disgusting and filthy mouth.

Like the 175 seat victory PML[Q] :hehe: Bhai, Musharraf is a relic of the past like Zia now. He is only being humiliated more and more but being the zaleel insaan that he is, he seems fine with the less than 10% approval he has in the country.

Re: Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

Makes no difference whatsover unless Nawas or Zardari is looking to be Prez and PM. Ghilani has been a disaster and they know it.

If Mush had an ounce of shame, he would have resigned a long time ago

But you cannot shame the shameless

Re: Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

Is there a scope for one coup my Mr.Parvez Musharaff?Truely I like him.The so-called democratic elected governments are just farce.

Does that include the 'elected' MQM governments you post in favour of?

Your reason for 'truly liking' the most hated man in Pakistan is rather obvious, and it is not because he is good for Pakistan.

Re: Zardari, Nawaz agree to impeach Musharraf

^I am sorry but that was a prejudistic one......
MQM ..well I do not want to comment on it.....
May not be you,but there are many in Pakistan who believe Musharaff was the best.
