There was a time when everyone used to hate the name ‘Zardari’. The only thing associated with his name was the title “Mr. 10%”. Even many PPP supporters used to yearn for Benazir and Bhutto.
Then by luck he became president. Everyone was very sure that such a person will fail miserably, and that included Americans per wikileaks.
But he has proved everyone wrong. His policy of staying engaged with everyone has brought him more and more allies. So much so that he is bound to be the first president, I think, who will complete the 5-year tenure.
Here are few things which come in my mind:
His is the sane voice in PPP who has brought MQM back to stay allies everytime some hotheads in Sindh created trouble.
His policies towards Talibanic extremism are exemplary. In fact better than Benazir. Taliban would never have thought that taking out Benazir will actually bring even a bigger of their enemy to power.
While keeping America engaged, he also started talking to Iranians and now the gas pipeline project is again active.
It doesn’t mean that everything he has done is the best. But I think he has surprised everyone with his politics.
I agree, Zardari was leading a weak government and he hasn't achieved much in power generation, and economy etc. and should have been in a weak position by now. A few months back pmln was making noises about mid term elections etc. but now everything's down in the drain, at the moment even despite the bad governnence of ppp it seems they still will win the next elections. Credit goes to Zardari and then NS, you cant ignore the latter for the success of the former.
someone said the same thing in other thread ... and ppl start bashing him!! anyhow ... but everyone gotta admit ... he has done alot better ... thn wht we had expected !! ... we thought he is going to miserable .. but guess wht!!! ppl are realizing he is not that bad!!! i think he is quite smart!! perhaps ... smarter than benzair!! ... he has made some wise decisions!! gotta give him credit for that!
Welcome to the state of Pakistani's abroad. The day they consider a convicted criminal an astute leader is the day you know the rot has crept into our society.
Oh brilliant. After his various bannings and multinicks Doppleganger is finally an expert on Islam. Congrats. You must have recieved your degree from the same University as Zardari.
Zardari has come a long way. So has MQM who rejoined the Govt. after a killing spree (soon to be forgotten as usual).
What a turn of events. One day we cuss PPP, next day we Praise it, then we cuss it again then we praise it again. Oh Lawddd!!! The things my loyalty to my leader makes me do....

He is the dumbest leader since Nawaz sharif he did not get into power by luck who ever america chooses gets into power including a convicted fraudster like Zardari!
The sooner he joins his father in graveyard better for all people of pakistan.

Yeah we thought he was going to rob billions of dollars but instead he has robbed around trillions of dollars. We thought he was going to only let a few hundred people die in the floods but instead he let a few thousand people die. We thought he was going to let the economy sink like the days of NS but instead he has drowned it completely. We thought he was only going to let some people go into poverty but instead he has raised the poverty level from 18% (thnx to Mush's days) to around 40-50%.
...at the moment even despite the bad governnence of ppp it seems they still will win the next elections. Credit goes to Zardari and then NS, you cant ignore the latter for the success of the former.
Exactly, credit will go to Nawaz Sharif alone for gifting PPP another 5-year term. I have no doubt in my mind that Nawaz won't get even Punjab government. It's almost sealed.
As it stands, PPP will win the next election, due to Zardari's astute politics.
However, even as a PPP supporter, I hope they lose the national govt election, so the real PPP members can regain the party, and politicians will realise governance does indeed matter.
Nobody can compare to legends like ZAB, and Benazir, but in the current situation, people like Aitzaz Ehsan, Raza Rabbani are the real PPP, and inshallah they will form the PPP once again.

I think nowhere in this thread did I say that PPP is great party. Nor did I say that Zardari is the ideal leader. All I meant to say in this thread was that Zardari did not prove to be a failure as was expected when he took the reins of the party.
This does not mean that PPP deserves to win the next election. I still think that people should give votes to any party except PPP and PMLN.
Also, while Zardari proved to be better than expected, he still did not do a lot of necessary stuff. Above I gave examples of his good policies. Here are some bad ones:
- He did nothing against rampant corruption in the country and government.
- He gave senior government portfolios based on nepotism instead of merit. Eg: Hina Khar as foreign minister.
- He approved appointment of racist fanatics like Zulfiqar Mirza at very senior positions in Sindh government, which resulted in a lot of bloodshed and increase of acrimony in the province.
He also kept people with medieval mindset like Bijarani in federal government.
- He did not take any efforts to improve economy of the country in general, and improve power generation in particular which is a very serious issue the country is facing.
So I only said that Zardari is a better politician than everyone had expected. But his party still does not deserve to make government in future.

Pathetic.
Whether we like it or not, he has proved to be a cunning, shrewd politician.
