how come there are so many z’s in urdu words? for a language derived from Hindi, I wonder!
Re: Z in urdu
urdu is not derived from hindi :p
its a mixture of turkish, farsi, arabic and maybe some hindi (or sanskrit) too prolly?
"urdu" literally means army/tent in turkish and it was coz the soldiers who campes in the subcontinent were from all these areas and they spoke a mix so urdu came abt
Z in urdu is ZWAAD and ZAAL and ZE and ZOYAY - we got 4 alphabets for the Z sound :D
Re: Z in urdu
just to make it difficult for Hindi speakers...Aesay to Phir Jindagi main hota hay.
Re: Z in urdu

Re: Z in urdu
So they couldn’t even get that right with Urdu?
Why in the hell would you put a ‘z’ when it clearly calls for a “j” stupid urdu people. That is the problem with made up languages..like urdu and ebonics..nomesayn!
Re: Z in urdu
zindagi does sound sweeter than jindagi, I'll admit.
oh come on irem, there is so much commonality between Hindi and Urdu, one can practically understand urdu if you know hindi!

Re: Z in urdu
lol, who taught you that?
Urdu was created by stripping Hindi of the Devanagari script in favor of the Perso-Arabic script, and by adding Persian/Farsi vocabulary (and a small amount of Arabic vocabulary)…that is where the Z’s come from.
it is classified as a Sanskritic language, and simply has extra foreign vocabulary and a foreign script. the foundation of grammar and core vocabulary is identical to Hindi, and unrecognizable to Arabs/Persians/Turks.
the common Pakistani Urdu-speaker and the common Indian Hindi-speaker speak neither pure Urdu nor pure Hindi…they speak what was referred to as “Hindustani” by the British. this is the language found in Bollywood films and on the street.
Re: Z in urdu
yeah urdu definitely has more of a persian and arabic influence, while hindi has less of that influence. but both are from the same family..and both have an equal amount of sanskrit..i mean...just cuz u speak hindi..doesn't mean u understand sanskrit..sanskrit is mad hard..but i honestly don't see a huge difference..i understand urdu just fine..and i understand hindi just fine..and i think that applies to most people..whether they want to admit it or not.
