Lifting or not lifting ban on youtube is not the main issue , we should have some alternative of all the good sites, why we have all stupid things and not the good things, all good things (good quality stuff) are of anti-islamic people. Both ways we are the one suffering, so many good islamic lectures informative videos are on youtube, we have no access to it now, if we had a site of our own we wont be needing youtube, just putting a ban is not enough they must work on alternatives of not just a website but all the good products we use of such anti-islmaic
Hasnt the ban gone on for too long now? I was not in favour of blocking it altogether in the first place. We are the ONLY islamic country left which has blocked YouTube altogether. This is bordering on ridiculous now. Govt is more afraid of religious brigade rather than keeping it blocked on principal.
PTA should have used a new internet facility called Content withheld for countries.
KARACHI: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is once again in talks with Google to unblock video sharing site YouTube.
“PTA hopes to unblock YouTube in two to three weeks,” PTA Chairman Farooq Awan told The Express Tribune on Thursday, adding they were in talks with the internet giant.
On September 17, PTA blocked the video sharing website to restrict access to an anti-Islamic video that sparked riots in many Muslim countries.
The internet giant blocked access to the blasphemous video in Libya, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and India, but it didn’t block the video in Pakistan. The government, therefore, directed internet service providers (ISPs) to block the entire site.
The Express Tribune has already reported that PTA has received a directive from the Ministry of Interior with several instructions about unblocking of YouTube, permanent blocking of unregistered SIMs, Mobile Number Portability (MNP) and automated web locking.
The ministry, in its directive, told PTA to restore the video sharing site and manually block blasphemous content using PTA’s system, according to a source familiar with the matter.
However, PTA doesn’t have any system to manually block thousands of links leading to the anti-Islamic video. It has to be done through ISPs, which is virtually impossible as this will require a huge amount of time and effort.YouTube(http://tribune.com.pk/story/466437/youtube-may-be-unblocked-in-two-to-three-weeks/)
There shouldn't be all together ban on the youtube or any other site. Pakistan need to use technology and sophisticated DPI vendor products to silently block threatening or illegal material as other countries silently does. However getting those products and their licenses is not easy until uncle sam approves.
