Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

Ok, this really bothers me. When ever I go on FB my cousins, people I know from back home, they all (or the majority of them) have this weird incorrect style of spelling.
Just now I saw this girl write this “Yar msm lvl ha lhr ma ajj” … Someone PLEASE tell me what this girl is trying to say!!! The funny thing is that her Pakistani friends knew exactly what she meant. One even commented “Han yar sch ma mza agya” … I mean REALLY?

What is up with the Pakistani youth and spelling? Writing cuz instead of because, wut instead of What and even Urdu words like PA instead of Pe .. Ma(Mein) Ha (Hain) etc etc.

I’ve noticed that this just started a few months, or max, a year or two ago.
Is this some new trend? Please someone make it stop.

Btw, I am NOT saying all of Pakistan types like this. But I’ve seen quite a few people doing this.

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

this is due to lack of correct talaffuz among youths and also the lack of knowledge about IMLA [dictation]...hardly anyone these days observes the rules of transliteration while writing Urdu in roman English.

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

Ever heard of text speech?

Maybe they have found the Roman Udru equivalent of Chavy text lingo we get in Britian and USA

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

I agree. But should there be some kind of common sense? When you read "Ma" how would you pronounce it? You would pronounce is as MA and nothing else .. not Mein .. not Main.

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

Yes and I write differently when I TEXT someone too. Posting an update on Facebook is different. People need to UNDERSTAND what you're trying to say ... no?

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

i also sometime write like this, even here ppl complained no v didnt get u, wht u want to say :(

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

hi ven-d dahlin

wut she mn8 yar mosam lovely he lahore mein aaj :hehe:

vaant fraaanship?

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

LOL!! I feel like telling them the same. But I feel like they'd think I'm rude :(

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

mn8? Meneight?? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?? :smack:

And I always translate lvl as Level … oh it means lovely .. nice .. now I know :biggthumb:

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

honestly speaking i never found it rude, bc its true its difficult to read, but for me i try my best soemtime edit out n try to write full words but it still happens wth some words

n by the way some ppl do this just to show some kind of style n trying to be different n acting all cool, yes COOL, ppl think they r acting cool

PS: i m not talking about myself

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

I think the “mn8” was supposed to translate to “meant”. I don’t know how, but it seems to make sense.

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

how would you shorten "idiotic"?

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

I don’t know what they think. But it’s so not cool … it makes my head hurt. :bummer:

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

Id8kk?

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

:cb:

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

I dont mind shortcuts for words like because, ppl etc etc. But sometimes its just too much. One can at least write a few words out, it honestly doesnt take much time.

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

Gotcha.

I wonder how people come up with these things ... how can the number eight attached to M and N possibly be translated into Meant. It's beyond me ..

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

This is not limited to the Pakistani youth or to roman urdu.
I see youngsters with other languages doing it too.

It annoys me too btw, :P

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

how about "ED8k"??

Re: Youth of Pakistan and their spelling!

no short form of idiotic, not every word has short form :chai:
