Mines is in a suitcase sitting in the basement, I get sentimental looking at it, so try to avoid it for some reason. :o
After reading the posts here I was thinking, thank God, my Valima outfit was a churidaar pajama type of dress. I can certainly wear that again, but the lehgha now way!! its too heavy and to bridal. :)
Oh one more thing, we even saved our wedding bedroom decorations!!
it was paper and not real flowers, so I didnt threw all that away, especially as my husband put that on himself / with friends of course.
sahar: you have my sympathies, i feel your rage! lol
sometimes moms do the weirdest things- mine was in this habit of constantly giving my favourite party frocks to a younger cousin whom i absolutely hated! for a while, i was convinced i was adopted
My wedding lehnga is sitting folded up in pillowcases in my mother's closet. I wanted to wear it on my first anniversary, but I was too pregnant by then. I did try on the skirt a few months back, but I couldn't bring myself to wear the shirt. I'd love to be able to wear it to my brother's valima one day and I wouldn't mind wearing it on my 10th anniversary and maybe get a portrait done with my husband in his sherwani--hopefully they fit! My own valima outfit is also at my mom's house, but I've worn it several times (since it was a churidar, it was way easier to handle), most recently to my cousin's wedding.
My wedding and walima lenghas along with lots of other fancy bridal type outfits are all back in pak with my MIL. I didn't bring them back with me after the wedding as when I packed them they took up pretty much all of my luggage allowance and I had lots of other stuff I wanted to bring back with me not to mention all the presents my in laws were sending back for my family etc.
In the end, I decided it didn't matter anyway as I'd have problems storing it back home anyway due to limited wardrobe space and I know i wouldn't wear it here whereas in pak there's a chance I might one day. And I know the clothes are in safe hands :)
I still don’t know why I had my parents bring my lenghas back (they went home the day after hte valima) esp since I’ll hav to bring all this stuff back to canada
I'm having a completely plain salwar suit made from the same material as my wedding lengha. That way... for a party I can wear the kameez from my wedding lengha with the plain salwar and a plain dupatta, and that makes one suit. Or else I can wear the plain kameez with the skirt from my wedding lengha, and use either dupatta, depending on what would be appropriate for the occassion. This way, I get 2 more outfits out of my wedding outfit, and I can wear them on more occasions.
Mine was very heavy red lehnga. I gave that plus some other kaam walay kapray to a girl in Pakistan. She worked for hubby's family. She was so happy that she still asks that when we will be visiting. I wouldn't have been able to use it again any way. I wore cream and gold pushwaz(sp) on valima and will be able to wear it again, so kept it. I am in love with it and won't be giving it away.
awwww That was sweet of you to give your lehnga to that girl. I'm sure she won't ever forget what you did for her.
