Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

So…enquiring minds want to know. You know that outfit that you spent 5 years planning? The perfect colour with the perfect accent and embroidery? The perfect fit with every inch measured and re-measured…fitted and re-fitted…the matching shoes and handbag that really wasn’t good to carry anything…

Where is it now?

Still hanging in your closet cuz it hasn’t been a year yet and you love to gaze at it occassionally?

Packed lovingly away in a suitcase?

Lying in the bottom of some box in the garage?

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

In my suitcase in the closet. I look at it every time I go to a wedding and am looking for something to wear. And its been 6 years.

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

My phopo wore my mums gharara at her wedding. And my mom's other one is still around. Itsthe banarsi kind that was very in fashion in the 80s. Next time i am in Pak, i may steal it like i stole her other gharara and banarsi sari.

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

Mine is tucked away in a suitcase..I did wear it on our first year anniversary:blush:

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

^^ thats such a good idea. That way your arent taking the spot light from anyone.

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

Enquiring minds also want to know, how many of you can fit into that measured and re-measured piece of very expensive clothing?

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

i don’t have one of mine own rightnow  but I am thinking of wearing my mom’s gharara for my wedding…(altering, adding embroidery stuff to it, will make new shirt+dupata, it is a plain gharara) lusi busy daydreaming about her wedding gharara while in the class

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

there is something called alteration :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

All the years I spent thinking and planning and I got the complete opposite of what I wanted. That’s what happens when your dad buys ur dress :phati:
It’s folded in several pillowcases in a suitcase that has ALL of my jahez/barri outfits. the shoes are also in the suitcase, and my bag is thrown somewhere in my closet..it was reallly worthless bag, kept getting caught on everything, was good for nothing. Jewelery is in the bank. I will be wearing to at least two occasions InshAllah..

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

I have no idea what to do wiht my lengha. I do want it changed a few years from now. THe kameez is very short, very plain with kaam on teh sleeves and hem, whereas the duputta and lengha are just incredibly heavy. Any suggestions ?

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

^ Sara my wedding lengha had a really heavy skirt and dupatta, so my mom had a plain skirt in the same colour so i i can wear my kameez(a little kaam on the neckline and sleeves) and the plain skirt with the heavy dupatta.

i still get good use out of it, and it hangs gloriously in the side of my closet along with all the other fancy clothes. Every once in a while when i start to feel blah about my self i take it out and try it on, i know i’m hopless

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

Mine is at my mums packed away in the wardrobe(i think!). My valima outfit wasnt planned my way at all but i was very happy with it. Nearly 4 yrs on i can still fit into out without having it altered or adjusted which is a bit of a miricle consiering a had a child pretty soon after getting married!

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

Mine is ‘resting in peace’ in a suitcase back in my homecountry,:naraz:

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

Look at all the folks that are recycling their mother’s ghararas and lehngay…how wonderful. Makes me think that there is hope…

By the time I was born, not much of my mom’s clothing was left because we migrating to Toronto and it was, at the time, futile to bring such heavily embroidered clothing here. In her absence, I believe her clothing, and various other items, were “shared” by others in Karachi. To this day that ticks me off. But oh well.

I need to pull out the banarasi gharara that ammi made for me. I just love it…but I will need to make a new shirt for it because the neon, two-toned, hot pink just doesn’t do it for me anymore…:sb:

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

In a charity shop,.

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

All my wedding outfits are at my mums...I hope and pray in the same condition as I left them - (my sister isn't that considerate of others belongings and she lives with my mum, so I do hope and pray)

I have worn the champals from all my functions several times to family functions.....saved a bit of money there over nearly 6 years!!!

I wore my mangnee lehngah to my cousin's wedding in 2004 - had to have it altered!!!!
I am intending Insha Allah to wear my mehndi outfit to my BIL's mehndi function - lets hope the diet goes the right way and I fit into it.....!!! (And Insha Allah if I DON'T fit into it, it will be becasue I am "with child".

Re: Your Wedding Lehnga - Where Is It Now?

mine is packed away in storage right now...would always make me happy when i look at it. I took some pics of my daughter in it...would like to do it every year!
