your usual dinner time

For last many many years, our usual dinner time is around 6:30 pm. First of all, I am terribly hungry by that time, and then wife likes the fact that the kitchen is done with and cleaned by 7:30 pm. Not to mention that it gives us couple of hours between dinner and the bedtime, which I think is a healthy habit.

That routine of ours sits very close with our American friends, but with desi folks, it’s way too early. Their usual time is around 8:30, if not later.

What is your dinner time? What time do you cook? How often do you eat fresh meal vs left over vs frozen (that was prepared over the weekend and stored in the freezer for later use).

Re: your usual dinner time

Depends on when I finish work or any assignment. Can be 10pm or 4am

As for making food, weekends usually.

Same here…our dinner time is between 6:30-7:00 pm. My kids have a strict 8:30 bedtime so I like to be done with kitchen duty early. My husband takes over right after dinner…checking homework…watching a little discovery channel with the boys and then putting them to bed while I clean up.

I’m not much for frozen meals, so I cook fresh. What that usually means though is I make enough at one go to last a couple of days. We finish up all the leftovers before making something else. My husband hates to waste anything and is not very picky thankfully. Sometimes dinner is just paratha and omelette and he’s happy with that

Re: your usual dinner time

How can you guys eat at 630 don’t you feel hungry by 2am? :frowning:

Re: your usual dinner time

At 2:00 am we’re ghoray bechkay so’ing :hehe:

Barray ho’jao, phir pata chalega :smilestar:

Re: your usual dinner time

I am flattered you call me in mid twenties not b’ara

Yeah same here…dinner is between 6-7PM. My son’s bedtime is between 8-8:30PM. There are some odd nights (we get invited somewhere or go out to dinner)…but that’s our everyday routine. Husband always gets hungry before bed…usually eats almonds or walnuts or peanuts at that time. But yeah. Hate eating dinner late…the cleanup makes me so annoyed.

S punk, we also get hungry by 10, but mostly stick to fruits, or maybe hot milk and cookie. I don’t know if it’s healthy or not to have fruits that late.

Oh khatti, just like your family, we also love breakfast for dinner. Our biggest opponent is our older daughter who can’t accept breakfast for dinner, so we do it less now.

6-7PM as well and if my husband decides he might work out that day sometimes dinner gets pushed a little. I like eating early because then you have the rest of the evening to do things like finish House of Cards! -Epic.

Re: your usual dinner time

so I am desi our dinner time is 9 but its not proper dinner because we take lunch dinner whtever between 4:30 to 5 when huby comes from office so usually around 9 we take cereals or fruits but our bedtime is late we sleep around 11… too much desiness

^ When you say lunch-dinner, do you mean that you guys don’t eat lunch, rather a heavy meal at 5 pm?

Re: your usual dinner time

exactly breakfast around 9 and then heavy meal around 5 but thts for me n huby , baby takes her lunch n her dinner time is between 7 to 7:30 but she agin jumps in our snack around 9

Devilish, so you guys take two heavy meals instead of three? That is pretty healthy. I heard from hakeem saeed marhoom, and he used to have heavy breakfast after fajr, and then heavy early dinner exactly 12 hours later. In between and for any other time, he will only eat seasonal fruit, even if it’s bair (urdu word).

My problem is I don’t have a consistent dinner time. Sometimes it’s 6. Other days it’s as late as 11

Re: your usual dinner time

always at 6 pm [jaaRaa, garmii, barsaat] … my brother and i come home at around 5 pm and we sit down at dinner table at 6 sharp. in summer, we get hungry again before sunset lol

when i lived in my village, we always had our dinner just before maGhrib [sunset] because, during rainy season, bugs would invade any light light source [a candle or a lantern (laal-Tain :cb:].

do any of you have any exposure to a village life? those who have, do you remember the termites [with wings] coming out of their mounds and invading the light source.

we used to put the lantern in the middle of the courtyard [aaNgan] and poured a loTaa-full of water around the lantern. all those flies would get stuck to the water and in the morning we would see tons of wings broken off from the termite bodies. i remember sweeping and and collecting all those wings. :frowning:

Re: your usual dinner time

6 - 6:30pm here as well.

I cook fresh 4-5 out of the 7 days … i generally cook tween 3 to 4pm and make chapati (if we are having chapati) after the man gets home.
other two days are left overs. take out is on average once every couple of weeks.
bedtime is 9:30.

Re: your usual dinner time

Our Dinner time is 6:00 pm, sleep time is 9-10 pm.
