Your home network setup?

Re: Your home network setup?

Well, sometimes one is not right next to them routers, if you know what i mean. I like to access my stuff from wherever I am.

I tried a 12+ ios on a 2501 but it didn't take, I think not enuff memory. The wifi AP's are just so u can move easily between segments and play around with connectivity etc. It was just a thought anyway.

Oh and BTW, I think those online companies use simulators. Have u played around with NetSim and the like?

Re: Your home network setup?

Yes. If you have room, you can move two or three routers with switch and an AP and do your tests like that.

As I did here:

The two linksys routers are upgraded with dd-wrt.com firmware which allows to have two linksys routers in wireless bridge mode and be able to talk to each other. (the default firmware wouldn’t allow you to do that)

With the new IOS, I did have problems with delayed response from few of the routers, it could be memory issue or something.

I use to play with boson’s netsim.

Re: Your home network setup?

That's the firmware I have on all my WRTs. I tried the Sveasoft but didn't like it that much. There was this other dude (the independant i think he was called) who had cracked versions of Sveasoft available for the masses.

Try downgrading the IOS , that might fix the response time isssue.

Re: Your home network setup?

WRT is great, I was looking for sveasoft and saw this and got hooked. The x86(Pc) version is also looking nice but don’t have it yet.

Yasir,

This is the WAN network diagram that I made of company I worked for two years ago. Each link from the “cloud” in the center represents a remote site.

Behind each “firewall” the are about 300+ Cisco devices (routers, switches and Access points). I will post their diagrams when I find it… sorry had to reduce the resolution so you can’t see any info other than the layout.

Enjoy!

I need your help

What are most basic tasks in managing cisco routers?

Can some one use a cheap router like 2500 serious to get used to the interface and for basic learning?

Re: Your home network setup?

achaa, bari hee achi baat hai. kitney computers?

yes, in the field.

Well, you don't need to buy routers if you just want to familiarize your self with the interface or command line. You can buy virtual labs but some of them cost same as 2500 routers would.

As far basic tasks, for starters you should know the following:

  1. know the hardware, what the router has as far as interfaces and capabilities from hardware viewpoint along with how much memory it has, etc..
  2. boot up the router (obviously)
  3. if its not booting up, know how to troubleshoot it. Say, it boots up but config is losing or it doesn't boot into the IOS, etc.
  4. be able to switch between various modes
  5. be able to configure interfaces for *basic *operation
  6. set basic passwords (for telnet, console) *]backup & restore (maybe *intermediate *for some) I hope that helps!

Re: Your home network setup?

on ebay 2500 serious is 25$ if it can give me the inter face/memory thingie/modes

My other cocern is console cable look very strange for 2500 serious.
