Lord of the rings for the uninitiated..i was just reminded me of one of my favourite lines by LI and I wanted to hear your favourite ones:
"Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow; The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow. How did it come to this?
Another one of my great moments is from the Two Towers when castle is breached and King Theoden has lost all hope. Aragorn suggests that King Theoden ride out with him. This is the moment where Theoden sees Aragorn worthy of the throne of Gondor:
Théoden: So much death. What can men do against such reckless hate?
Aragorn: Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them.
Théoden: For death and glory.
Aragorn: For Rohan. For your people.
Théoden: Yes. The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep one last time! Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath! Now for ruin! And a red dawn!
I remember when one of the women defeated someone in a huge battle scene. I was yelling “Women Power!!!” and clapping in the theatre I think it was in the 3rd installment.
And Gollum was fantastic!
LegallyBrown is correct. Eowyn dealt the decisive blow to the Witchking of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgul. However Rukhsaar, there is more to it. Before Eowyn stabbed him, Witchking was wounded by Merri (the hobbit) who was wielding a blade of the Westernesse. These blades were forged long time ago by Men of Westernesse in their war against Angmar.
Hello, My name is Daisy and Im a LOTR addict, I read the book five times and sold my barbie doll collection to pay for the special extended CD box gift
My favourite line from the book was
that rhyme,
All that is gold does not glitter
not all those who wander are lost
I have to admit I wasnt impressed with teh chap who played Aragorn....
My fave was Gimli... and the lady dwarves
they have beards
^
Viggo M. played a terrific Ranger but I didn't like him as the King. His first meeting with the hobbits in the inn @ the Prancing Pony was great! This is the primary reason I love the Fellow of the Ring so much -- you are introduced to the characters, locations, etc. Shire was beautiful. Merri & Pippin were hillarious!
I felt sorry for his wife.. I bet he was a bad husband when he became king... all that power went to his head
and when he had enough if I remember correctly he went and lay on his death bed and prompty died.. and she had to wander around till she eventually dies in a the cold deserted forest of lothlorien
I'm so glad to see other LOTR fans here. I read the book once every year, been doing it for 14 years now and when they announced the movies I was ecstatic and I have been so impressed with the movies. I am a true LOTR junkie.
My favorite scenes in the movie (I have way too many in the book), when the Rohirrim charge at the battle of Pelennor, the sound of the horns, the chants of "DEATH!!", Theoden's speech of "A sore day, a red day, ere the sun rises." and "RIDE NOW!! Ride to ruin!!", that scene gives me goosebumps. I also really like the Gray Havens at the end, the music is wonderful, the goodbyes are... I have no words.
Also, during the battle of Pelennor when Gandalf and Pippin are behind closed doors in Minas Tirith and the orcs are trying to bust in and:
Pippen:"I didn't think it would end this way..."
Gandalf:"End? ... No the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path... one that we all must take. The grey rain curtain rolls back and all turns to silver clouds.... and then you see it."
Pippen:"What?... Gandalf? See what?"
Gandalf:"White shores.... and beyond... a far green country under the swift sunrise."
Pippen:"Well... that isn't so bad."
Gandalf:"No.... no it isn't..."
This scene sounds like the description of Heaven in the Quran. This book is written with so much love and care, with beatiful rich language, I would encourage anyone who has only seen the movies to read the book.
OK, I'll stop cuz I could go on and on about the various scenes. I was kinda sad that they didn't do the scouring of the shire though. Oh well. Can't wait for the HObbit, which is also a GREAT book.
Peter Jackson and co. crafted those movies with same love and care. It's truly a gift go the Tolkien fans.
Another remarkable aspect of the movies is the dramatic effect created by the Black Speech voice overs for Suaron and the ring scenes -- the Palantir scene when Aragorn shows himself to Sauron and Sauron start chanting *agh burzum ishi ...agh burzum ishi krimpatul. *.
The confrontation/fight between Gandalf and Saruman.
The mines of Moria look magnificient and there are some very dramatic scenes in that part of the movie.
The two towers.
The one between Wormtongue and Eowyn. His words are just so poisonous, like Eowyn says.
The birthing process of the uruk-hai.
Battle of Helms deep has awesome scenes like, when the army of elves comes to their aid, when Gandalf charges down the steep at the break of dawn.
Return of the King.
When Aaragon summons the king of the dead to fulfill the oath. The whole thing from when they enter the creepy place until he summons him is amazing.
Everything with Samwise in it. He was awesome. When on the slopes of moutn doom he says "Then let us be rid of it once and for all. Comeon Mr. Frodo... I can't carry for you... but I can carry you! Comeon!" Just amazing!!!
Scene between Arwen and her father.
Hell, it's impossible to choose a few over others, it's just not fair. LOTR is magnificient, everything is awesome. I just chose some besides the obvious favorite ones.
When Aaragon summons the king of the dead to fulfill the oath. The whole thing from when they enter the creepy place until he summons him is amazing.
The theatrical version only shows Aragorn exhorting the king and then they jump out of the corsair ships. Have you seen the extended version? The king had a sense of humor. :D
