I'm not even sure who my first rishta was from although I know people were interested before I got into my teens. I don't think they all want to marry that early, but they're more interested in making the "reservation" (for lack of a better word here) for their own kids.
Re: Your First Rishta!
My first proper rishta was frm my 3rd cousin when i was 17. The main thing what drew his parents to ask mine was the fact he designs wedding clothes. And i did beauty. Together we could go into business. Yep thats what they said. anyyywaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay later that year i found myself the man of my dreams!
Re: Your First Rishta!
Hmm i think my first ristha came around when i was 13/ 14 years old. I have had around 4 risthes, but never knew about them as my parents never told me :D. Just found out about them 2 years ago and that wasent from my parents, but from someone else in fam :D
why is it disturbing? if the parents actually got their daughters married of at tht age then I would say its disturbing, I know many people who have been engaged at a young age and then got married in their mid 20's. nothing disturbing about it.
Its not hte parents of the girls who are sick but hte people proposing them. seriously.....hibbidijibbidis!
Re: Your First Rishta!
i have no idea of any rishtas coming or going ... my parents never told me about them .. EXCEPT for the rishta of my first cousin cringe ... and these people once came to our house ... i wasnt really told that they are coming to "see" me ... probably cuz i'd be throwing a tantrum or a fit of why the hell ... idk .. that was just weird .. some really fat paki-american people came to our house that day ..
but my parents know me too well i think ... lol ... thats why no news ever came to my ears :D
ahahahahahaah my first rishta was when I was like 5 or 6
Beat that ladies!
ahemm wasn’t anything serious… we were (still are) realllyyy good friends with this desi family in Saudi Arabia (since we used to live in KSA before)… They have 3 sons and I was (still am) bestttt friends with one of the dudes
… We were over to their house one day for daawat and me n the dude were punching each other (pretending to do boxing) and just messing around like lil kids do… His dad jokingly said to my mother “Bhabi agar mein apnay shehzaday k liye apki shehzaadi maangu ga to ap mana to nahin karein gi?” buhahahahaha… mom was like.. errr…
I didn’t remember this, mom told me about it a couple of years ago… ![]()

Re: Your First Rishta!
I think instead of asking Rishta's most of the parents want just to do "baat paaki now... and shaadi salooon k bad" .. nothing wrong in it, as it's kind a cultural back home.
first one: i was 16. dude saw me at some get together we had at my aunt's house. he was a doctor in nyc. was above 25 and formally proposed to my mom. mom was like "eh she's already engaged to her cousin in pakistan". this was a lie cuz mommy didn't know how else to say no. lol

mayb. but I've seen so many parents bragging on about how many rishta's their daughter got from a young age, like its something to be proud of.
as for men they will try their luck wherever. I was told I was getting married to a 27 yr old well educated good looking guy and I found out later he was nearly 30 in shyt circumstances. sigh

I am wearing Yellow lenses in avatar pic to save girls from "yee neeli neeli ankhoon sai mujh ko bachaloo - hameen zinda rehney do neeli ankh waloon" syndrom :)
lol u guys.. ![]()
PS: Firenze, I’d be really really against the “baat abhi pakki, shaadi saalon baad” So unfair!

I've seen that too. It makes me cringe, How exactly is it something to brag about that some pervs came to basically eye up your daughter at a young age to see if shes suitable for their son. Makes my stomach turn. People lie, People like to show wealth and they are total retards that cant even hold a decent conversation. As we saw in the 'fat or phat' Thread. Purrlease!! Give me strength!!!!
Re: Your First Rishta!
*Note im not saying rishta is for pervs,I'm talking about people that come when their daughter is below 16. Or lets say 18 even.
Re: Your First Rishta!
I was 18, rishta was from my cousin (a couple of years older than me) who lived in another city.... my mom was super excited, dad said a big NO and I was so glad he refused.... I hated that guy and his mom is a typical saas, she's mean to her bahus.
I proposed to Shehnaz when I was 8.
beat that...
Re: Your First Rishta!
mom tried to set me up with someone when i was 19. Tricked me into going to pakistan for the whole thing without me knowing.
Fortunately I was able to dodge it.
