Re: Your first computer
First desktop was in 1999 or 2000. It was either Pentium II or Pentium III. I only remember playing Dave and DX-Ball game on it. Or some times the typing tutor.
First very own desktop was Dell in 2007. It had become super slow, so one day I got tired and decided re-install Windows. Needless to say, it didn't work after that.
First very own laptop was a Sony Vaio. Still love it!

I had a Vaio. Wasn't a good experience, the battery gave out in a couple of months and it eventually died after it got hit by a chappal. Don't ask how that happened :(.
Re: Your first computer
First computer we owned: a BBC Microcomputer… bought it in 1990 when I was 11. Still vividly remember the day we were shopping around in Bur Dubai for a home computer. My dad had completed a few programming courses and he really wanted us to get started with computers early.
Didn’t quite get into using this computer except for playing Frogger
- primarily because of lack of software and support. The computer was originally introduced in the UK and in the Emirates people rarely had heard of this brand.
In 1993, we bought an IBM 386. This was the start of real productivity. I learned to use a word processor (WordStar) and we were just amazed at Fax Modems
- also got my first email address then too… and the thought of exchanging emails with someone on the other side of the world was just wow!!
Ohh… and we played a lot of Prince of Persia ![]()
This behemoth lasted us a good 4 years before we switched to our first Pentium MMX in 1997.
Good ole days!

It was late I was still on my computer, mom told me to turn off the lights and go to bed. I did not comply. It got to her and she hurled a chappal(my chappal) my way. I ducked and the chappal missed me and hit the computer instead.
There must've been more to the story but this is all I remember.

Looks like mom has a strong arm and good aim.

Re: Your first computer
Mine was a 386 in 1991. 40mb HDD and 2MB RAM. I got it for about $950. Then got bored with it after a year. So i bought a SoundBlaster sound card (16bit card for $150
). Then I hooked up my portable CD player to it. I also figured out how to record music this way. I remember recording Kenny G’s Silhoutte on the hard drive in WAV format. I was using about 10mb with software. The audio recording used up the the rest of the 40mb drive ![]()
I was able to sell that computer for $1100 when i played that music file for a friend. He bought the PC that same day.
Next day i purchased a 486 @ 40MHz, with 100MB drive, 4MB RAM and I was a very happy camper.
Re: Your first computer
I have Windows 3.1 (DOS 6.22) and Windows 95 on VMware virtual machine if anyon is interested in playing! Pretty small files.
Was bored one day and found old software floppies (virtual)
I've never used Windows 98. My first one had XP home edition, and it wasn't pirated.
I've been using XP for 10 years now.

Re: Your first computer
2001 i guess - at that time, knowing that its pentium II seemed enough in terms of (knowing) specs.
Re: Your first computer
The first PC I worked on was perhaps an IBM XT in university. We used two 5.25 in floppies. One carried code in FORTRAN and other one compiler. Each time, we compile our code, we get message "Do not disturb while program is being compiled" for a few minutes. system RAM was 640 K I guess.
First PC that I bought was a pentium I
RAM was 64 MB

*My first "computer" was a Commodore 64 which I got in 1989 as far as I remember. It had an external floppy drive and a datasette. I taught myself programming on that thing (in BASIC language). * My first PC was an Intel 386 with 40 MB hard drive and 1 MB (!!!!) RAM. It had two floppy drives, one for 3 1/2" disks and one for 5 1/4" disks. I got that one in 1993.
i aslo had this one exactly back in 1988.
it used to pplay piano with specific data
