Your cousin's illegal status

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

uhh illegals don't have any access to state benefits or welfare. So no, your taxes aren't footing the bill for illegals. They usually work long hours for under the table cash at really low rates, they wouldn't if they could just live off welfare.

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

Perhaps in your part of the world they dont , in our country, they try their best to get themselves on the asylum ladder or the welfare ladder .. when they need medical attention they go to the NHS , that means using a taxpayers benefit , they try to work illegally , taking up jobs that otherwise legal individuals could have taken ...

and leave aside the tax payers money , why should someone be encouraged to stay when they are breaking the laws of that country? the laws are in place for a reason ... you cant respect them , you dont deserve to be here .. simple as that .... there are many millions of people who struggle day in and day out to try to stick to the laws and find a legal life ... why should illegals have to make them all look stupid for working hard and lawfully???????

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

illegals contribute way more to the GDP of UK than they take out - these people dont seek medical attention unless it is something so serious that they'd risk going on record and risk deportation.

you want to stop those that are draining the system? i recommend the following three steps.

  1. disband your global army - such a disproportionately huge resource for a fairly tiny country with no real enemies. they cant even stop illegals coming in banana boats.

  2. push retirement ages higher. illegals work and contribute even when they are 90 while pansy legals retire at 65 and extract pensions from public tax money.

  3. privatize non-emergency healthcare and stop making everyone else pay for random people's kids' dental braces. cut down on welfare for legal residents.

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

Surely the reason people come to the UK legally is because they want a better standard of life. If people wanted to work until they die with substandard medical care they would stay where they are.

Re: Your cousin’s illegal status

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

I would give him a deadline to either go back home or become legal.

Re: Your cousin’s illegal status

what about blackmailing them?? and making them treat you really good :x2:

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

although your end result will be the same, do you report this cousin, or his employer, if the employer is busted for hiring illegals as the employer should be, the illegals working there are also nabbed and deported, as they should be.

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

The burden of illegals is not just on healthcare but also education and pretty much anything that is paid for by public funds.
the only people who come ahead are the illegals and their employers, illegals because they were able to get in, and are doing better than they would in their native lands, yes they may be exploited but they are choosing that over being in their countries. The employers are paying them below market wages in cash, and dont pay payroll taxes so come out ahead, either under cut honest competitors on prices, or keep prices same but since the cos basis is low they have higher profits that go in their pockets.

so honest competitors get hurt, those who are paying fair wages to legal workers...legal workers get shafted, not because they do not want to work but the wages no longer make sense, there is a minimum pay for a reason. Social programs get hurt because there is no tax contribution by employer or employee.

thinking that illegals work for 5/hr while legal residents would work for 8/hr so illegals are getting shafted, does not factor in the wider negative impact to legal residents. Now before someone comes in and starts on stuff like well your veggies will be more expensive because the cost of business would go up is a ridiculous argument. unless there is a cartel, competition would bring the prices to the right level, but with adherence to some standards including minimum wages.

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

Just to clarify, we weren't planning of reporting him, we knew he was in Scotland somewhere but didn't know his employer's details. Last week, there was a raid and they caught everyone without any legal status, he was lucky that he wasn't there so escaped it but now he's terrified and is going back to Pakistan in few days. (he's not our cousin, he's a relative)

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

You also have to include the fact that because these illegals cannot drive legally so they do not bother with insurance or tax. So when you end up getting rear ended you have to take the hit on your insurance.

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

Asif, very true, someone i worked with was hit by some illegal dude, only had liability on his own insurance and since the other dude had no insurance my colleague got shafted, car was totaled and he had to then get another car

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

I thought this was a hypothetical question. If he is back in Pakistan I would tell him to get and get here by legal means, work visa etc. You do not mention what your relative is qualified in but the chances are whatever it was in they were not being paid market rate working illegally .
When I lived in Bradford I knew a few unscrupulous restaurant owners who were paying illegal chefs in a Bangladeshi place £3.50 an hour instead of the going rate of £10-£14 an hour. When caught and fined they pleaded poverty despite their premises being full of drunken goras spending many ££££'s and living in £500000 houses.

Re: Your cousin’s illegal status

^He’s done a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences. :smack:

Re: Your cousin’s illegal status

This is exactly what the UK needs is educated immigrants. Instead they block nearly all non EU people and let in millions of uneducated Eastern Europeans to work for minimum wage.

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

^I know. :(

What can be done?

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

Btw, before we call each other irresponsible citizens for not reporting the illegals, perhaps we should ask the government why it rewards these criminals with permanent residence once they've managed to avoid deportation for 14 years.

Re: Your cousin’s illegal status

Marriage to a UK national  It’s how a lot of the mirpuri do it in and they cannot read or write let alone attain a bachelor’s degree , yet they are here legally.

Maybe some more useful information could be found here Work in the UK - GOV.UK

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

^I know but he's not good with girls (not that he's gay or anything), he was engaged to a British born girl but broke up. He always lets his emotions rule him, hope he learns from his mistakes. He had a good job in pakistan but he gave up that too just to make quick money.

Re: Your cousin's illegal status

Has he tried working in Islamabad? that seems to be in it's own little bubble closest to UK living. I do not really know much about that degree unfortunately but if he was in IT working with oracle he would probably get in a lot easier.
