Younus Khan declared captain of ICC World T20 squad

LONDON: International Cricket Council has announced World Twenty20 cricket squad, declaring Younus Khan as its captain.

The squad consists of four Pakistan, three Sri Lanka, three South Africa and two West Indies players.

Indian and Australian cricketers have failed to find a place in the World Twenty20 squad released by ICC in London on Monday.

Besides Younus Khan as skipper of the team, the other Pakistani players who have been selected for the team are all-rounder Shahid Afridi, wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal and paceman Umar Gul.

Sri Lanka’s Tillakratne Dilshan, player of the tournament, named as an opener alongwith the West Indies Chris Gayle while South Africa Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers included for the middle-order.

West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, teenage South Africa paceman Wayne Parnell and Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis complete the line-up, with Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga as the 12th man.

Quite a strong team. Pakistan has 4 players there

Steyn and one or two others might feel unlucky to miss out

Re: Younus Khan declared captain of ICC World T20 squad

Who are they going to play against?

Re: Younus Khan declared captain of ICC World T20 squad

YEa wat is this team made for ?

Re: Younus Khan declared captain of ICC World T20 squad

**I wonder y yuvraj was left out ....
n besides Younis Khan announced his retirement frm T20 ....... n he was made captain ......

never the less ........... inclusion of 4 Pakistani players is an achievement for Pakistan cricket
**

They don't have to play against anyone. The is just to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of best players in recently concluded World Twenty20.

Just like Benaud wrote a whole book on his all-time World Test XI. Only Imran Khan made his final XI

Wasim Akram as the best left-arm pacer ever deserved to be in his list too and Miandad and Waqar's names should have atleast been mentioned among the greats of the game because they were all world-class players

and to add they do it after the quadrennial World Cup as well. This is just a celebration nothing-else

No Indian player?It's a tricky one,then........

Reflecting their failed title defence, not a single Indian cricketer made it to International Cricket Council’s special team of the Twenty20 World Cup for men announced today.

The ICC special women’s team, however, included Indian pacer Rumeli Dhar in it.
A five-member panel picked the 11-member men’s team, led by Pakistan captain Younus Khan.
The team, including 12th man Lasith Maligna, contained four players from Pakistan, three each from South Africa and Sri Lanka and two from the West Indies.
The women’s team, led by England skipper Charlotte Edwards, included five players from the winner, England, four from beaten finalist New Zealand and one each from Australia, India and Sri Lanka.
Both teams include the respective players of the tournament, Tillakarante Dilshan of Sri Lanka and England’s Claire Taylor.
The men’s team was chosen by a select group of experts, including former England pacer Jonathan Agnew, cricketer-turned-commentator Ian Bishop, Twenty20 World Cup Tournament Director Steve Elworthy, ICC Match Referee Alan Hurst and Indian journalist Sharda Ugra.

The women’s team was selected by ICC Match Referee Chris Broad, former England captain Clare Connor, Steve Elworthy, commentator Alison Mitchell and journalist Jenny Roesler.

Re: Younus Khan declared captain of ICC World T20 squad

Congrats to Younis and all the players...

I believe that Steyn should have been there as well... ICC picked up the team from the Semi Finalist of WC...
....The winner has the most, runner up 3, SA has more than WI cause they fought well in the semi final, WI for not giving a fight at all in the Semis..

Re: Younus Khan declared captain of ICC World T20 squad

its been a while since we had a captain nominated as world XI skipper. :)

grats Younis, he brought it all together.

Brilliant…. Just Brillant. This T20 will go a long way in raising the value of Brand Pakistan. Likes of Gul, Afridi and others can help get the star-appeal back for Pakistani team and can make it big draw again!

Re: Younis named skipper of ICC's World T20 XI - 4 Pakistanis in there

On what basis is Younis the captain?

Bro..That is awfully specific…you forgot to mention Australian players…It is obvious that team was selected from semi finalists..It does not mean that there are no match winners in any other team…
