Younis Khan rejects Pakistan Captaincy (see post 101)

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

Younis may not have to play like Inzamam but atleast show some nerves and stay on the wicket. Inzamam did that for most part of his career and also in past 4 years both in Test and ODI. Younis has to do the same, save your team when needed rather playing useless shots.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

Basically 3 routs lead to the captaincy:

  • Senior and Respected Captan:
    M. YOUSUF

  • Terrific Performer Captain:
    M. YOUSUF

  • Captain Material Captain:
    SHOAIB MALIK

Younus Khan is not the first choice in any of the category but because of Imran Khan most probably he will become a captain. Captain has to LEAD FROM THE FRONT BY HIS PERFORMANCE.

oh and btw Imran was a great captain, he understnad cricket very will but he can be wrong, he is not a farishta

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

^ True. But you voted for MoYo and not Malik in the other thread…
a change of heart or
not sure… :konfused:

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

but the point remains that you groomed a captain for last 3 years and now you dont appoint him as a captain... i doubt that PCB will go any other ways!

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

You may be on to something here.
But you did not mention who will walk out for the toss, presentation ceremonies, photo ops etc...and who will decide on the power plays and fielding placements.

Edited : I now see that you did mention about the bowler setting the field.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

^ I guess they can have a vote before evey game as to whom will do it…at the end it will churn out an “unofficial” captain…or dummy captain…
I like the idea though…it totally make sense for our culture…
:rotfl:

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

Atleast Inzimam puts one controversy to rest. He does not want 2 captains for ODI and Test. If he would have said different, I am sure there would be a group jumping on the band wagon to get him or someone else as Test Captain.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

Younis Khan does an about turn, to captain Pakistan

Lahore, Apr.5 : Batsman Younis Khan has agreed to take over the captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team.

A cricket website quoted an anonymous source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as saying that Younis met PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf on Monday night and had a detailed discussion over the captaincy issue and the PCB’s future vision for the national team.

Younis is believed to have said that he had no problems captaining the side, as long as the PCB kept an open mind, and allowed him to speak his mind on player performance and attitudes.

Younis, according to the Daily Times, also discussed in length about what should be the composition of the Pakistan Test and one-day squads in the immediate future.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

Do we really want a flip flop like him as a captain?

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

^ I guess you voted for Malik...
BTW...this news was posted earlier as well. We are all concerned about his dramay baazi style.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling to take over as Pakistan captain

This is a BIG RED FLAG , if you ask me.

He is asking for a license to point fingers at specific players if things don’t go as per plan. Pakistan has always had this problem and should not be allowed to continue.

The amount of player-player bickering that goes on in the Pak team is exceptional even by desi standards. I mean when India loses - you don’t see Dravid (or even Ganguly or Azharduddin in the past) say that we lost because friggin Agarkar bowled like crap. They will most likely say - Batting or bowling was not up to the mark or something as general as that.

My thread about this (opened a couple of years ago but still relevant) here : http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?t=143084

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

things are getting weird folks... Shahid Afridi claiming in his interview that Younis khan was at mistake, when they had a fight in WI but he was the one who apologized first. Younis khan has demonstrated immaturity on multiple occasions. I get the feeling we are in the same postion as we were in WC 2003. There was no choice other then Inzi and it seems like the same thing is happening again.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

*Dekho bhai log....*if Inzimam is your best choice for Captain, I say pick any other player randomly as the Captain. I guarantee you he will do no worse than Inzimam.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

^lolz

Afridi and Yosouf both said in their recent interviews that they are ready to accept Captaincy if offered to them. Now i am sure that they will be thinking about it a bit and this fact will stay on the back of their minds... all i hope is that this doesnt create any rift in the team.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

btw, I am just trying hard to remember if I ever saw Inzimam walking along with the bowler to his runup giving him tips or encouragement like most "normal" captains do.
Is it me or was there never such a picture on TV.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

Yeah Dravid did that all the time, look how it turned out with one of best team assembled by India. At least they won warm up tournament according to you. :)

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

So are you saying that I am right.
Inzi never ever walked to a bowler to give advice or enouragement ? If that is true, why are we discussing so hard as to who will fill Inzimam's shoes. Just pick any player who can stand and nose-dig in the slip area when the team is fielding. Anything plus would be an improvement.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

Younis Khan sucks, so does Nasim Ashraf.

I stopped watching cricket after 2000 firstly coz i was too busy in my residency and secondly coz they sucked. I'll do the same now.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

Actually no, people may perceive that just because Younis knows how to step up field may not translate into victories or if he goes and talks to his bowlers, we will win matches. It takes a team to win, a team that is prepared, fit and has some consistency with them.

About Younis accepting captaincy, it’s about time and he is 4 years late. I remember Pybus just after the World Cup '03 predicted Younis to be Pakistan’s captain. He can not do it alone; first and foremost he must improve his batting than take the team in his confidence, but again let’s just wait when the official news is announced.

Re: Younis Khan unwilling/willing to take over as Pakistan captain

Inti likely to be the new coach
----------------------------------------------
Younis wary of player-power in captaincy game
By Mohammad Yaqoob
LAHORE, April 5: Younis Khan’s strong reservations over player-power destabilising his candidature as future Pakistan captain has been the main reason behind his reluctance to accept the honour, informed sources said on Thursday.

Information gathered by Dawn reveals that while Younis remains the top choice of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for taking over the mantle from Inzamam-ul-Haq, he is unwilling to sign on the dotted line due to his rocky relationship with some seniors players in the side.

Inside sources confirmed that PCB chairman, Dr Nasim Ashraf had, offered the captaincy to Younis earlier this week with certain terms and conditions and is now awaiting a reply from the right-handed batsman.

The sources added that the Peshawar-born player is yet to make up his mind about accepting the new role since he feels that a group of senior cricketers who have been playing loyalists to former skipper Inzamam are likely to create problems for him in his future assignment.

On his part, the PCB chief has apparently assured Younis on cricket board’s firm drive to curb the player-power and has vowed to put together a powerful disciplinary committee to check the menacing trend.

The PCB, sources say, has also informed Younis that he will get a well-defined job description as skipper with enough powers at his disposal to lead the side with confidence. The same is likely to be the case with the new chairman selection committee and the coach who will be given added authority to run the affairs smoothly.

The PCB has also decided to sign a written contract with these three top officials of the team. But despite the assurances, the board has failed in convincing Younis for the job, perhaps because he has experienced some rough treatment at the hands of his seniors in recent past. It was in October last year when Younis refused to lead the side as makeshift skipper in the ICC Champions Trophy in India, creating a huge crisis. While many put his refusal to a serious argument with then PCB chief Shaharyar Khan, it was actually the attitude of some seniors on the first day of the training camp which prompted him to lodge a complaint with the PCB boss.

The critics feel that Younis’ reservations are not without reason since the PCB has often committed blunders in the past by mishandling things at crucial junctures. There have been several instances where captains and chief selectors have been named without taking into consideration their reservations and terms. Such a scenario has invariably resulted in a fiasco and has played havoc with Pakistan cricket in the past so many years.

Meanwhile, Salahuddin ‘Sallu’ has emerged as the top candidate for the post of chief selector while ex-captain Intikhab Alam is being tipped as the new coach. Pakistan don’t have any international assignment before September’s Twenty20 World Cup.
