Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath for this :D

I don't think its lack of knowledgable people per se. Its a largely because of politics combined with horrible inter-personal skills (big egos) and lack of effective communications.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I didn't know you were such a big Misbah fan.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

*Not funny at all, to be honest. Akhtar should lead the side if Younis and Yousuf are reluctant to do so. *

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Akhtar is aggressive ,but he can't afford to relax after bowling 4-5 overs .

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

highly doubt akhtar can handle captaincy

yaar apni taez gaam noun zara lagaam do. Younis Khan may not be harfan maula…but the way I see it there are mostly *khaleefas *among our team and board officials with big egos and personal agendas!!

Iss (management) mein khaleefon kee kamee nahin ghalib
aik dhoondo hazaar miltay hein

You are conveniently ignoring the rude and uncompromising attitude of board officials who did not consult Younis before naming the squad on the morning of the second test. I appreciate it was an eleventh hour decision but the management should still have taken the stand-in captain into confidence about the composition of the team. I mean how long does it take to get someone’s opinion on 11 players? maybe 5 or 10 minutes at most! Younis was rightly peeved about all that. He is a senior player, a team man who deserves some respect.

Now again it seems that Younis wanted Abdul Rauf but the management has instead gone for Rao Iftikhar without consulting him. Rao is not really a strike bowler but a line and length bowler more suited to the demands of ODIs.

The captain is obliged to consult the team management/selectors on the possible composition of the team and vice versa but at the same I feel that a captain’s say should be the final word and respected by everyone since it is often him who has to face the wrath of everyone when things go horribly wrong. Younis simply can’t be expected to take mere dictation from them.

I am with Younis Khan on this one

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

The following from the Friday edition of DAWN. (Also, I was wondering why the Indian media had not pounced upon this masala news. )

Younis Khan denies rumours

BANGALORE, Dec 6: Acting skipper Younis Khan has denied all rumours regarding his reluctance to lead Pakistan in the third Test due to lack of decision-making powers at his disposal.

Speaking to Dawn here late on Thursday, Younis dispelled the impression that he was unhappy about leading the side without sufficient powers handed to him. “These reports are absolutely baseless. I am looking ahead to leading the side in Bangalore and there is no rift or disagreement among the players over anything,” said Younis amid reports of his refusal which had been taking rounds since early evening.

“I myself have heard such rumours today but there is no truth in them at all,” said the seasoned batsman who led Pakistan to a magnificent draw at Kolkata. “These reports are being spread to harm the spirit of our team which is pretty confident about levelling the series against India here.” When asked about his controversial column on similar lines in the Hindustan Times last week, Younis said it was a different scenario altogether and the issue was dead and buried now. “Then, I was hurried into the job on the morning of the Test and couldn’t change anything at that stage,” he admitted. “That had really annoyed me but things have since been sorted out.” Media manager Ahsan Hameed Malik and manager Talat Ali also denied reports of Younis’ refusal to take up the job at Bangalore. “There has been a lot of confusion here today about it, but believe me nothing of it is true,” said Ahsan Malik.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

In my opinion, Younis Khan made the right choice and the only choice, which, I also agree with Nikema Bhai and Some1 Bhai, is far less in stature than the choice that he refused to carry out. It is times like these when you really have no alternative but to do as circumstances ask for. A fair share of criticism at Younis Khan is right, he should be the one leading the squad rather than turning down these windows of opportunities. As a role of a vice-captain, you are expected to blend into the role of a captain, and previously with Inzamam and now with Malik, now was the time when Younis Khan had to take the initiative and run along with it, regardless of whether or not he gets all his team players. I have supported him before and will continue to do so because of his character and personality on the field as a team member and as a captain, which is everything that we could see in the future leader of Pakistan. But I also feel that, that future has to start somewhere and now is a good time as any. The selectors, the less said the better. I kind of understand why he refused, who on earth would want to stand in front of the firing range with absolutely no backup from his team members? Really skilled and talented cricketers on merit in the team, you can start counting them on one hand and you will still fall short a finger or two. Management's decision of not getting his input just before the start of the second test was justified, it was a last-minute decision. But this should have been better handled, from both sides.

I feel that both sides are guilty as charged. Younis Khan should have just lead the squad quietly and see how things lie in the future. You just cannot go from a position of a vice-captain from one match to demand your favorites as a captain in the next and refuse to lead if the demands are not met. I really wanted to see him on the field in the role of a captain encouraging all the players after every ball, even when the chips are down. The selectors should get aligned with the needs of a captain also. It is okay if both sides do not come to an agreeable conclusion. One has to learn how to negotiate with the players that are given to you. That is also a tiny portion of a job of a captain.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I am not sure what the manager Talat Ali is doing out there. This calls into question his inter-personal skills if there are any! His job is to clear any misunderstandings, depoliticise all such (internal) issues, stifle unnecessary media intrusion and speculation and act as an effective communicator between the captain/team and the board officials/selectors

He is most certainly not paid just to stroll around in designer baggy shorts and a pair of dark glasses!!

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I did not know Talat Ali has designer shorts and a pair of dark glasses. It is understandable, since he is the media-man and all. Hiding one’s image takes skill, and there are very few designer brands in the world that can match that quality.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

^ don’t have any recent pics of Talat but here are some old ones

Wasim bhai is looking very chikna here btw

I would n’t mind all this if Talat was doing his job properly but I get the impression that he has his own favourites within the team.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Making Akhtar captain is like making Younis Khan captain anyway, since Akhtar will be off the field 50% of the time.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

He is leading already…fikar kyon karte ho yaar!!!

Take it as a joke, not character assisnation, he doesn’t have one

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Just heard on GEO, Younis has been convinced by Nasum Ashraf for the captaincy

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

^ Good news. Did Naseem convince him in pushto?

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Homemade naswaar. Never fails to impress.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Younis tantrums are really a bit much. Shame on him for creating such scenes all the time. The guy has an attitude problem and needs to sort it out.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Younis has completely denied the rumours. Infact all rumours about Younis declining captaincy was just speculation. No PCB official was quoted...and I think it was just a masala news..Its always these "sources" in the articles which makes me suspicous.

Younis is ready to lead Pakistan and thats all that matters. He is the best person to do the job and I really really hope Pakistan does well in this match which might urge Younis to take captaincy on a full time basis...I really dont wanna see Malik captain the side anymore...he reminds of Inzi wayyy to much...not by batting...just by his lazy captaincy.

Looks nothing more than a rumor.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

He said in the press conference that he admits as long as he is a player, this captaincy thing will continue to haunt him. He admits that he is running away from captaincy because being an indian/pakistani captain ruins your life and hurts your performance, but this captaincy thing keeps on presenting itself and he has no choice but to accept it now.

-Doesnt seem to be too happy about it, doubt he will become full time captain
