Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

How about BCCI iniating proceedings against Sachin? He refused the job too.
Younis hasn't refused to play, he's just refused to take on the added responsibility of leading the team.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Let the Paki team have no captain just like the Indian team has no coach.....maybe they will play better.
Even better, include Miandad in the playing 12 and make him the non playing captain in the extra. Lets see how he comments about his team;s performance after every match.

you cant compare the relationship between PCB and their employees with any normal employer-employee relationship.

Here we have in an incompetent employer who doesn't know how to treat their employee. When the situation demands giving some respect to their employees, PCB give them $hit and when it's time to dictate PCB becomes unassertive and give unneccesary powers to the players. It becomes a vicious cycle and a result we see this comedy drama frequently.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Understood. But think of the situation at hand right now. Think of yourself as PCB the employer and think of Younis Khan as your employee. Can you PCB afford to fire Younis Khan? I don't think so. Does Younis Khan know that? I do think so.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Younis Khan was made captain (after Malik became injured) in the middle of tour because there was no other choice. If Younis Khan had the interest of the country in mind, he should have accepted it regardless of his concerns about the functioning of the PCB.

It is not the same thing as Tendulkar recently refusing to be considered for Test Captaincy - because there was not the same "urgency" there.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I think Yonous is right in his stance. Why should he take the blame if a crappy team is assigned to him.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I think u r right, There is more than what is been said....may be he is getting absolutely no support from Coach+Manager+ Malik on wht kidaa team he wants to play.......

But still, this is more than one test match....this is not time to make/strengthen your case by refusing captaincy....right now,*** he is needed by whole Pak ***to lead the team and if he doeas...he is not going to be doing it for himself, he will be doing it for Pakistani people!! Thats what should be in his mind.

May be he is playing his cards well by coming up with this out in media.....and talking about it well in advance ( test match is still 2 days from today)....i wouldnt be surprise if he ends up leading Pak into Bangalore

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Yes...you are exactly right.

So to put it in an "employer-employee" context, basically we are dealing with an indispensible employee who can get away with any kind of tantrums.

I have a feeling that if it was Cricket Australia or even the ECB, they might have dealt with this situation in a more professional manner (I mean with regards to a player refusing Captaincy during a crucial time regardless of the stature of the player).

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

uhh that doesnt make any sense
who will make decisions? (who to bowl and what field settings to place)
and this is an international match which the world is watching, dont think they want to be fighting in the field about who to bowl and start becoming bitter about things
thats why captaincy is such a big role

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

*I did not agree with him for doing this following the World Cup (his reasons included the fact that someone put his face up on a donkey or something). This time around, I do agree with him. PCB is comprised of jokers, who want to pick jokers for the test side (Faisal? Sami? Rao?). Younis slapped them on their faces; they can't get rid of him either for "indiscipline" because he is our top batsman. A captain should have the side he wants.

P.S: Rise and shine, Misbah and SHOAIB AKHTAR being considered for captaincy. Let's see who wins the race (you all know who I would rather have as captain).*

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

FASTEST should be the new captain !!!:jhanda:

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

Good job Younis :k:… atleast being consistent for taking stand against slamming a team not of his choice. So this is tussle between selectors, management and captain! Captain wants certain players, selectors saying the players aren’t good enough so we’ll give you better replacements, management probably wants Younis to accept it as is.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

BBC is now reporting that Younis will, after all, lead the team in the 3rd test. CricInfo has pulled the story of Younis' refusal. Hopefully this is a sign that the issue is resolved, at least for now.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

dont think BBC/Cricinfo ever reported about Younis not leading the squad for the 3rd test. The story which BBC have about Younis leading is probably before all this drama started. Hopefully BBC sports correspondent will wakeup pretty soon :hehe:

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I am with Younis he has the right to say no to even play the 3rd test let alone captaining a team with bunch of jokers who will happily lose because all they care is that they get paid.

Uncertainty surrounds the identity of Pakistan’s captain for the third and final Test against India, due to begin from Saturday in Bangalore. Younis Khan, the official vice-captain, stood in for the injured captain Shoaib Malik for the drawn second Test and was expected to continue in Bangalore, after Malik’s injury again ruled him out.
But according to unconfirmed reports, Younis is reluctant to lead the side throwing

Pakistan’s preparations in to disarray. A final decision, it is understood, has not been made yet and officials from the team management have denied the reports to Cricinfo.
Speculation surrounding the development suggests that Younis is unhappy about a number of issues. Mostly they are concerned with the ambit of his influence as stand-in leader, but also including the fact that Malik addressed the pre-match press conference in Kolkata despite knowing he was unavailable for the Test.

Then, halfway through the Test Younis dissociated himself strongly and publicly from the team management’s selection decisions - including the one to play a plainly unwell Shoaib Akhtar - in a column he wrote for Hindustan Times.

Finally, there are also suggestions that the call-up of Rao Iftikhar Anjum as a replacement for the injured Umar Gul is also an issue. Younis reportedly, in consultation with Salahuddin Ahmed, the chairman of selectors, asked for Abdur Rauf to join the team and for Sarfraz Ahmed, the reserve wicketkeeper, to be sent back.

But, after some confusion, Anjum was eventually sent, instead of Rauf, a decision which left Younis displeased. Younis left training recently in Bangalore, citing a stomach ailment, but sources reveal he had all but decided not to lead the team by this stage. By then the Pakistan team management were making all efforts to convince Younis to lead the team in the final Test.
Mohammad Yousuf has also been sounded out should Younis not agree, but he has also apparently shown reluctance for the task. The other candidates, by default, are experienced players such as Shoaib and Kamran Akmal, though the name of Misbah-ul-Haq has also been mentioned. Top board officials, including Shafqat Naghmi, the chief operating officer, were unreachable for comment late on Thursday night, though PTI said that he was in Bangalore, alongside the management trying to convince Younis to do the job.

Two officials, however, denied any truth in the reports. One told Cricinfo that he had just spoken to Younis and there was nothing to the speculation. “There is nothing in these rumours. I have spoken to him and he is willing to lead the side.” The team’s spokesperson, Ahsan Malik, also rejected the reports.

Captaincy and Younis have rarely made for comfortable bedfellows, which perhaps adds credence to the speculation. Though he was the official - and popular - vice-captain for two years under Inzamam-ul-Haq, he suprisingly turned down the post once Inzamam resigned after the World Cup earlier this year. Though his motives for doing so were never quite clear, he said at the time it was from the mental strain of a traumatic World Cup.

Last year in October, when Inzamam was banned for four ODIs, Younis was made captain for the Champions Trophy. He resigned from the position at a press conference days before the team left, apparently upset over a number of issues, one of which was the non-selection of a player he was keen to take. Two days later, he was reinstated as captain as Nasim Ashraf replaced Shaharyar Khan as chairman of the board.

He is the official vice-captain for this tour, a post he again took up with reluctance and only after Ashraf had personally asked him to in the absence of any credible candidate. Ultimately it means that Pakistan’s preparations once again are precisely as they were in Kolkatta: far from ideal.

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I disagree...Imagine Javed Miandad turning captaincy down on eve of 92 WC final after imran got injured or something?

like is above case, right now is not the time **to be right man with right things to say.....The only right thing to do as member of pakistani team is **to DO whatever that maximizes Pak's chance of winning at Bangalore...and trying to make a case about ur opinion is not a way that helps Pak win next game!

Re: Younis Khan refuses Kaptaani in 3rd Test/ Mohd Yousuf too

I am with Younis on this one. Like he said when he first refused captaincy, he doesn't want to be a dummy captain, who doesn't have any say who to pick. Once they implement the new constitution, maybe will see some knowledgeable people in PCB.
