Younis Khan recalled for New Zealand tour

Younis Khan’s recall was the only surprise when Pakistan’s selectors named a 16-man squad for this months’ tour of New Zealand. The side leaves on December 11 and during the six-week trip will play two Tests and five one-day internationals.

“Younis has been recalled chiefly because he enjoys excellent record in New Zealand,” explained Aamir Sohail, the chairman of selectors. “The team management is also of the view that they might need some more experience in the middle order.”

Sohail explained that the team was picked on the basis of improvements seen in recent months. “The set of players which we have provided have been playing together for the last six or seven months and have shown remarkable improvement,” he said. "Although we realise that it will be a tough tour as some will be making their maiden appearances there, we are confident that under the guidance of Inzamam-ul-Haq and coaching of Javed Miandad, the boys will maintain their good performance.

“This is the best combination we can provide considering the conditions in New Zealand. There are plenty of options for the team management in all the departments to field a winning team.”

Pakistan squad Taufeeq Umar, Imran Farhat, Saleem Elahi, Yasir Hameed, Yousuf Youhana, Inzamam-ul-Haq (capt), Asim Kamal, Younis Khan, Moin Khan (wk), Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Danish Kaneria, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Sami, Shabbir Ahmed, Umar Gul.

*Azhar Mahmood will be added to the squad for the one-day series.

Perfect squad, couldn’t have asked for a much better team.
Though I would have preferred Latif for test and Moin for one dayers.

So Abdul Rauf gets dropped without getting a chance
No Salman Butt either.

306 runs with the average of 51, in 10 ODIs against NZ.
He's been out of form for a while now, I hope he clicks in NZ and score his first century in 90 ODIs.
Good luck!

Changes , i beleive Abdul Rauf will be playing in India ACF series during the time of NZL tour.

surprise surprise no mushi bhai for tests and no saqi. wat a brill’ squad picked by the gr8test ganja  on the face of this planet. :frusty: :frusty2: :yukh:

good to see him back, hope he gives kiwi bowlers a hard time

no comments really about that…

but yes! we’ve got another pathan back in the side:D

you don’t really watch cricket do you. go watch another bollywood film bacchey.

I am not a Younis fan at all, in fact of the top of my head I can't remember a single match winning performance from him.
That is unthinkable for a guy who has been around for as long as he has.
But then again, I guess he is still young enough to play for a long time yet...

A decent squad except for I dont understand the logic for a few decisions. They retianed Asim Kamal without giving him a chance and dropped Misbah after giving him a chance. Plus Salman Butt gets out without getting a chance. He should have been tried ahead of Saleem Elahi. No doubt Elahi played well but thats the luck of the selectors. Anyway all in all a decent squad.

I think players such as Asim Kamal and Taufeeq Umar are for test matches only, Asim Kamal did well against SAF, so he was picked.
Though with the return of Younis Khan, I think its going to be hard for Kamal to be included as a 6 batsman.
Salim Elahi should be played in one dayers only.

I think this is the team Pakistan should go in test matches

Imran Farhat
Taufeeq Umar
Yasir Hameed
Yousuf Youhana
Inzimam ul Haq
Younis Khan
Moin Khan
Shoaib Akhtar
M Sami
Shabbir Ahmed
Danish Kaneria

I wouldn't mind Razzaq replacing Kaneria on a seeming track.

Yes....Yonis is my fav. of the youger players...he's also from my hometown, mardan, ....i hope he get back o form to blast the kiwis...

Personally i think YOunis Khan is going to be our batsmen in the future. But he really needs to start getting some big scores to achieve that status. Sometimes he seems to be not aggressive enough.

Umair you need to get off Saleem Elahi's jock. That guys is weak. I've seen good performances from him only against weak teams. Saleem Butt and Misbah should have been given a more of a look then Mr. Saleem Elahi.

The Game Responds:

*I remember the second match in the 3-match one day series in Australia where he scored 50-odd to win the match, but sadly, that's the only match I can think of where he has done something like that! People, That Is All.*

I think its good Younis has been given another chance :k:

Misbah should have been given a chance. Sec. I beleive Abdur Rauf should have been included in place of Umar Gul.

I would love to see Asim Kamal play the tests. That guy should be given the the opportunity. He deserves it, after he prooved himself against the Proteas.

Younis Khan is a decent player and did deserve another chance. He hasnt performed too bad and I didnt understand why he was dropped, except that Khalifa Aamir Sohail didnt like him. He is an ideal batsman for #6 slot in tests and #5 slot in OneDays.. He has shown that he can play fast in onedays and specially when he has to score quickly late in the inning.

I don't like Younis and Misbah. I would prefer to try new talent instead of these 2. I have seen Misbah and ppl are talking about him that he should be given a chance. Well to me if a player has talent he doesn't need 10 odd chances to make his place in the team. I am sure if Misbah is give 5 chances in a row the guy will fail. Well maybe against BD he might get some score. And younis he is just an ordinary batsman nothing special.

I find Younis to be painfully mediocre. The guy has played 96 matches and has been on the team for almost 4 years. (when he first started Aamer Sohail was still on the team!). In all that time he has never scored a century. As a comparison in just a handfull of matches over a few months, Yassir Hameed has scored 116.
Younis plays consistantly as a middle order batsman there really is no excuse.....

I agree that he should have been able to convert some 50s into 100s but he shouldn't be compared to an opener or one down.
