The incident is all over the news since yesterday, it is extremely painful to see that instead of condemning the incident, the police is making attacks on the character of the girls and trying to put the responsibility on the girls for the incident. It doesn’t matter if they were coming from the party or what, the fact remains they were tortured and one was gang raped.
According to geo news, the number of incidents of gang rape in karachi have increased from 6 (last year) to 25 (this year).

KARACHI, Dec 20: The Darakhshan police on Monday registered a case against unidentified persons for kidnapping and raping a young girl.

Officials said that two girls reached the Darakhshan police station and informed the police that they were kidnapped by unidentified persons in the Defence area when they were returning home after attending a birthday party in the early hours of Monday.

They said that the kidnappers tortured both of them and raped one of them.

“The girls told the police that a few men intercepted their car, forced them to leave the vehicle and sit with them in their car. They added that they
were then taken to some place not known to them,” said Clifton SP Tariq Dharejo. “The criminals also took the girls’ car along and they finally left the girls in DHA Phase VIII, Khayaban-i-Qasim, early in the morning after gang-raping one of them. The girls’ car was also found there.”

An initial medical examination that took place at the Civil Hospital Karachi suggested that the girl was sexually assaulted.

Later, the police registered an FIR (585/2010) under Sections 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 376 (punishment for rape) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim girl against unidentified persons.

The Chief Minister’s Adviser, Sharmila Farooqui, met the victim at the Darakhshan police station. She later told newsmen that only one girl underwent a medico-legal examination since her companion told the police that she was not sexually assaulted but only tortured.

“The girls have yet to tell us the exact location from where they were kidnapped,” said the Clifton SP.

Sharmila Farooqui is a b**** of the highest order. According to her they tried to interview the victim but she was hyper and rude. Now why on earth would that be, I wonder? Surely not because she just got raped??

What is with the parents nowadays? Why 2 young girls were returning from a party by themselves and that also in the early morning hours?

Even the grown up men get kidnapped in that city in the light of the day , these girls were so brave that they decided to return from a party alone in the wee hours.
It is not to condone what happened but people should be more vigilant, cautious and use their brains. Unless they were drinking or doing drugs and felt so brave to go out on their own so late in the night I do not see any reason why could they not wait couple of more hours till it was safe to go to their home.

The reasons for being late or early have no play in this scenario. They were raped. That is enough justification to bring the ***** that are responsible to justice.

Hell, the girls might be whores for all I care. If it was non-consensual, it was non-consensual. Capisce?

EDIT: Although common sense should prevail and people need to be careful about their own security. My point is that its an entirely different discussion altogether. It should not have a say in this.

Fantastic response people. Something is seriously wrong with a society where people aren't safe to drive at night, where it's not safe for girls to DRIVE alone, where people must wait till sunrise to DRIVE in safety, where people judge the girl and the parents for giving them the freedom to move....way to go!

Although I think this problem affects almost every major city in the world. So its not just about a certain society, this issue is pretty global brother!

I disagree. Carjackings may be common in the more lawless areas of the world, but this is the first time I'm hearing about carjacking leading to rape. It's sick and it's totally outrageous.

BTW, if you park your car unlocked in NYC overnight and it got stolen, police will regitser a report but give you 'that look'. They would seriously think that either you are a village idiot or just moved out of a cave if you did not lock your car in NYC. It has nothing to do with society shociety, its a personal responsibility and awareness that matters. You live in a big metro, you have to be careful of what you do and when you do it.

Indeed it is . But till the time things are perfect , we should keep an allowance for those imperfectnesses of a city , a country , an administration when we live our lives in such a pathetic city , society , administration. No ?
Whatever happened to those poor girls is deplorable. Others should be more vigilant now. That is all I am tryin to say.

BTW, raped girl lives with her BF in Defece, not with her parents. That is not a justification of her rape, but in fact I take my words back that what is wrong with the parents.

I agree, there is no justification. Its a sad sad thing but this is no new development in Karachi (although some people in this thread are acting this way). This has been happening from last so many decades. rape is probably the second oldest crime if you may.

Yes, rape, kidnapping, robberies are all par for the course in Karachi. Rape is probably the most under reported of the crime due to the stigma it carries in desi society.

dont know what should i condemn about?...late night parties? volatile environment of karachi? carjacking that leaded to gang rape? elite class with every access to education but lacks respect for what is right and what is wrong? Parents ignoring their children (of both the one who is being raped and the ones who raped)? senseless media? unprotected police? following west (in wrong things)? etc etc etc
