A bunch of them have been on hunger strike for a few days now. Mubashir Luqman has been conducting his show from the site of the strike for the past 2-3 days. A large group of patients have joined the protest. Quite a few student unions, (even those who have feuded between them in the past) are there. Quite impressive.
Its surprising that no other media has reported this.
News from Lahore is that ARY news has been blacked out in most parts of Punjab.
The primary issue they say is to express solidarity with the patients. The doctors claim that the patients are not provided with any medication, and are always told to go buy it themselves from the open market...even petty items like syringes, drips, injections, and other normal stuff that the hospital is supposed to stock.
The patients seem to agree with them, and have turned out in large numbers.
Secondly, I guess, though it hasnt been highlighted in this strike so far, is the issue of a new service structure contract, which the doctors have been asking for.
^ In Pervaiz Illahis government most of the medicines used to be provided throughout the province for free. Now people (mostly poor) who visit the hospitals have to buy the medicines themselves that is if they can find them in the medicine stores adjacent/near the hospital.
I have got some inside information about this strike. Government of Punjab had started advertising that the medicines in hospitals especially emergency are being given to the patients for free. Where as the situation was opposite. Due to non availability of medicines the doctors would hand over prescriptions to the attendants of the patients for purchasing them. The management of hospitals (MS etc) would scold the doctors/threaten to suspend them for this. Finding themselves cornered the doctors began their strike.
Another issue we have is that a large proportion of medicines available in the hospitals (of Punjab are fake). Due to this we have seen deaths due to cough syrup, polio and measles cases in spite of giving drops to kids. And we know who the health minister is.

That's EXACTLY what a young doctor said in Mubashar's program yesterday. THIS is what happens when you spend billions on single project and ignore the MOST basic necessities.
well..she is the daughter of a gunda..when she got a poor bakery guy beaten up for a cake, what more can you expect from this thing…
easy for them to say things like this, after shutting down the emergencies and blaming the doctors for it coz they don’t go to these hospitals for treatment, it is again the loss of the poor!
Do they really think blocking the media in Lahore, that no one is going to know what is happening? nawaz sharif ko aur bhi joothe parna chaahiye!
As much as I disagree with the Sharif brothers and their authoritarianism, its hilarious to watch PPP idiots come on talk shows, and complain about the law and order situation in Punjab. Shaukat Basra today claimed that X number of people/doctors were hurt in clashes with the Punjab Police the other day, when he himself got injured...and how that is reflective of the overall bad law and order situation in Punjab, and that Shahbaz Sharif should resign because of that.......And Im thinking....you idiot, Karachi has 20+ dead bodies a day, and Qaim Ali Shah is like piss down a flush..nowhere to be seen. Raisani had to be practically forced out of Baluchistan after 100 dead bodies were lying on the road for 3 plucking days....and you have the nerve to talk about Punjab law and order.

If we think like a typical party supporter then every bit of criticism against Sharifs should be welcomed but if you think like an average Pakistani then you can't ignore the drama of these fools who criticize Punjab government forgetting their own pathetic performance in other parts of Pakistan. Shaukat Basra is the biggest drama queen in parliament.
