** When I was 10.. I had a coloring book and chalk !!!

Do you think its polluting the “innocence” of childhood by allowing kids access to such gadgets so early and unsupervised or is it contributing to bringing up more smarter kids ?

Kids nowadays are definitely more intelligent and aware of happenings around them than we were at that age but at what cost in the long term ?

I don't think technology is a bad thing. I mean my dad would say when he was 10, he would walk 3 miles to school, or when he was 10..they would have one slate for all their school work, etc etc.

Kids are definitely smarter today. When I compare myself to what I was back then, I was pretty naive. The only source of information I had was the newspaper, and we definitely weren't as social.

No they’ll be locked in my basement until they are old enough to get married whereupon I will search for other basement dwellers for possible Rishta matches.

There is nothing wrong in using technology if used appropriately. Although I’d agree that kids should be allowed to be kid. At the age of 7 he/she should not worry about how many “followers” does lady gaga have. I have seen many parents actually force upon these technologies on kids just for their own satisfaction so they can brag around how “advance” their kids are. Yes we know couple of such aunties.

It happens only in Pakistan , where parents just want to brag and boost their own ego. I have seen 13 and 14 year olds driving around in Pakistan just because their parents could brag about it and show off their wealth and status. :smack:
It is such a crazy trend to outdo each other parents sacrifice their kids and their kids innocence on pedestal of status, apni naak onchi rakhnay k lee-a. Allah give some aql a saleem to these morons. :silly:

Yes because were in the technology age, back in your days (1960s) chalk and coloring books were probably considered something big. All the middle and upper class people had to have it.

May be I should not have said only in Pakistan. :hmmm:
I have not lived all around the world , so I will talk about the country I was born and raised in and observed such behavior first hand , when I lived their it was a way of life and I did not care much. When my horizon broadened a little I realized how wrong it all was/is. Am I Koo-ain ka maindak , yes.

Its definitely progress. We used to be so dumb at 10 but nowadays they are so much sharper with TV shows, game pads, psps and what not. World is surely evolving.

I refused to leave diapers till I was 7. :mad: Aajkul tu 3 saal mayn they are running away with training pants on. Gosh!

10 is way too young to have access to facebook. Loads of freaks out there + the naivety of a 10 year old would equal disaster.

Nothing wrong with being exposed to technologies at an early age... but we need to be mindful that technologies don't make kids "intelligent" per say... "smart" yes... but not "intelligent". While being exposed to these techs can help them pick up things faster, learn things quicker, and think diversely, they still need to be taught the difference between good and bad, right and wrong, dos and donts etc. and this is where parental guidance and control comes in. Kids should definitely use facebook but their lists and privacy settings should be managed by their parents... they can use cell phones but their calling parameters can be limited to family and friends.

while these gadgets are good in some ways, they have more negative impacts. Kids are addicted to these things and while we can say that they are much more aware then we used to be, is that really a good thing? not everything is appropriate for their age.
Other then that, kids now days are not as active as we used to be. The concept of going to the park and staying outdoors isn't as common anymore because they are too busy on computer, tv, video-games etc.
