I was reading an incident here (posted by CCB I think) where a waitress wrote ‘Jewish couple’ on a Jewish couple’s tab…
This incident was treated as a hate crime and blah blah, authorities were involved…
I don’t get it?
If I ever got a tab that said ‘Muslim couple’, I wouldn’t even think twice about it…In fact it please me greatly that I am recognized as a Muslim…
However, let’s say someone calls a Jew something like, ‘You Jew’, why is it such an offence? Even Hindus are like that…You call someone ‘You Hindu’, and it’s like you’ve slapped them…
No such thing for Christians or Muslims…In fact, someone calls me ‘You Muslim’, I’d smile and say, Alhumdulillah…
So what is this? Inferiority complex? Neurosis with these Jews that you call one a ‘Jew’ and he takes offense?
Lajjo, Jews have a long history of discrimination going back few decades in this country. It's more sensitive in that regard for them since they fought it.
Muslim will probably catch up in 20 or so years so no worries, saying "Muslim couple" will be "offensive" one day. Hold your horses.
I’m not sure it will take that long. Seems to me that more and more Muslims are finding something offensive about cops or airline security pointing at them and referring to them as “probable Muslims.” Something about profiling. I guess Lajawab is in the minority being proud to be recognized as a Muslim wherever he goes. Probably looks forward to the body cavity searches too.
So...By that account, every nation that was persecuted should be offended by being called what they are, eh?
The Buddhists were nearly exterminated, their holiest site taken over and losing their land...So by all accounts, they should be offended if someone refers to them as 'You Buddhist'...
The Christians were mercilessly slaughtered in Rome...By all accounts, they should be offended if being called 'You Christian'...
Similarly for Sikhs, wiccans, witches, e.t.c....Many derogatory words in fact are making a comeback...
Should everyone be offended for being called what they are?
And that too, non threateningly, derogatorily or racially...Just a matter of fact...Muslim couple, Jewish couple...
Maybe the waitress even wanted to make sure they got Kosher food...
I used to think it was Muslim sometime in history, aahh
