I have been offered alchohol, cigarettes from friends, strangers, passerbys and god knows from how many people, many times and when i say ‘i dont drink or smoke’ than this is the response i get “You dont drink or smoke? You are one weird person”
Normally i dont hang around with ppl who smoke or drink… but i ave noticed large number of ppl smoke nd drink including muslims ofcourse in london, which is disgraceful to say the least.
When i was in yr 11, i started smoking because my friend used to smoke, that motivated me nd i tried it and got used to it…but since last year i vowed not to smoke ever again simply because no one in my family smokes and i find this habbit really bad; so i stopped but in colege life its really hard to get away from such things, most of the ppl including gals in my colege smoke or drink i wud say 90%…and the amount of ppl who drink or smoke in my society is anybodys guess really!.
About two weeks ago, i was comin home from somewhere it was midnight 12am…i was in the bus when these 5-8 boyz came and sat next to me (they were in their 20s)…I was alone, one of them looked looked @ me and said " U kewl bruv? i was like wag1, yh am fine… than they all startd talkin to me and came up to the point of offering me alchohol… nd when i said i dont drink, they were surprised nd said u r one weird person! I was like …Many incidents like this ave happend with me, where ppl wud talk to me offer me cigarettes or alchohol nd when i refuse, they r like , …I wonder why …
Seriously in western countries its reali hard to stay without these things simple becoz most of the ppl around u, are totally different than you!
My Muslim friends never got into drinking. However, a few of my friends get into smoking and a handful of them still smoke. I never found it difficult to stay away from those things myself. In university, I refused to consume alcohol whenever it was offered to me. I would simply tell them that I'm not allowed to drink due to my religion, and then they didn't bother after that.

Its beacuse drinking and smoking is so normal in this country, you get judged for NOT doing it instead fo the other way round. For example its perfectly acceptable for someone to say 'Why DON'T you smoke/drink?' However if you asked someone 'Why DO you smoke/drink?' you'd get a hacky look and probably a f off. Get used to it is all i can and dont get sucked in. It's a shame that so many so called muslims think its acceptable to drink, but what can you do. Live a clean healthy life and you will be rewarded :)

I guess I dont find it hard to avoid? Something is wrong with me? I dont get tempted.
But that could be because by the time I got to know people who do drink or smoke, I was already past the temptation age. My parents didnt even allow me to go to malls alone. I can tell you some stories! But with four girls, can you blame my poor father? Nah.
Anyway, I guess you need to make sense out of it in your own mind so you get turned off by the idea. When you start working, it will be worse. Corporate events? Business lunches? Christmas parties? How will you avoid all those places where people need an excuse to drink? If you live in a Western world, you have to learn to find your own way. All of my non-Muslim friends know I dont drink and they respect it, in fact one of them wants to give up alcohol altogether now.
As long as you're comfortable with your own decisions, no one will question you. The minute you start to waiver, people sense it and thats what peer pressure is all about.

Smoking and drinking are two things which I never ever tried, even for kicks. Friends in college were decent and educated enough to understand why I didnt drink, and respected that. At work people are too professional to say something like 'youre weird'. I dont stop anyone from doing their thing, so I wouldnt appreciate anyone trying to convince me to drink either. If someone does that, its time they find a new friend.
No its not! You’ll have damaged lungs, higher cholesterol, weaker stamina, impotency/lower drive, and most of all, absolutely no will power! If you smoke, please try to quit bro!
I think if he truly is a professional, he’ll respect you more if you have the guts to stand up for what you believe in.
Just say something like "Thanks but Im trying to quit"...laugh it off and say something about your lady friend not being a big fan of beer breath. ... :)
Or pose like a wild drunk hanging on people and banging on walls and sing ... Thori si jo pi li, chori to nahi ki hay ... Meeeeeeena! aagaya tera diwaana ... soon they will regret on offering you!

I try my best to stay away from these things but when i hear this reply You dont drink or smoke u r one weird person" and specially from muslims....than what can i say? Such a same majority of muslims here in london find nothing wrong in drinking!
I know they are weird specially the muslims fellows all i can do is pray from them.May Allah bring them to the right path ameen…I do stay away from these things!..Will never do it InshAllah!
