But you date the oppose sex, you probably do not live in an avante-garde building and have little appreciation for post-modern architecture (or post-post modern architecture), you believe in government and governance, as a woman you will have your child yourself and not through a surrogate mother, as a man you will prefer that as well. You believe homosexuality and bisexuality are determined by action - i.e. a man who has sex with another man becomes a homosexual. You ridigly define your life with definitions that do not allow for the role of identity i.e. the man who has sex with another man is straight, straighter than you probably. You believe in two genders. Two sexes. You still believe in good and evil, and at most, a gray. You have moved, at most, from a dichotomy to a system of threes. You are modern, but you are so old-fashioned. Will desis always be stuck an era behind? Will we create a new world or just live in this world?
The modern era, to many, has ended. I believe that too, after all, we have moved beyond the late 1700s in government, ideology, art, literature. So many would say we are postmodern now.
So who here is post modern and not merely 18th century? Who here believes in relativity and reflexivity to the point of nihilism, where even nihilism is an ideology, and where all ideologies must be deconstructed?
Who gets to define what is modern? One could argue that if anyone in contemporary times practices something...or, rather, enough people...then it is by virtue of this "modern".

I don't think nihilism can form the basis of any ideology...but rather, it is a good way to attack a particular ideology, sparing others as subjectively more favorable.
wet nurses existed back in the day too. in the western part of the hemisphere (read: europe) and in the eastern part. back then, it was the rich families who could afford to have a wet nurse. why? because the women had to go back to bed to make more babies. i doubt that the practice of wet nursing exists now. instead, the bottle is the new nanny. and so, the new, “modern, advanced” world has now moved away from the bottle and prefers mother’s milk. but wait…didn’t this new modernism start the formula in the first place?
Just because a word (modern) and its meaning have been bastar dized, and a new denotation appended, does not mean the incorrect denotation should become primary, it does not give you a license to continue bastar dizing it. "Modernity" is not the length of a skirt or a woman in a bikini, it is an era in time that saw a particular philosophy, ideology. It was not a mere aggregate of events on a timeline; it brought forth secularism, capitalism, communism, a move away from religion, the development of positivism, and later on phenomenology and other philosophies.
However, postmodernism has took things further. I bemoan the fact that there are few Muslims and desis present in this movement. They are still stuck being modern. And modern is old-fashioned. The modern era is over.
And who friggin cares about what a woman does with her damn breasts. Rent a uterus (surrogacy), pay a wet nurse, whatever. It is called choice. It is called a damn reproductive choice that Islam does not allow.

Yes, yes...Modernism and Modernity connote a particular intellectual paradigm that originated in Europe...perhaps the point was not well expressed...what makes you think that such a mode of thought has not been rejected outright (after thought, and on principle)?
Why should desis adopt a European/American mindset (I assume this is what you mean by being an era behind)? Cultural imperialsm justified? Perhaps cultural genocide?
We are free to bastrdize the term in order to emphasize the fact that we never gave much mindshare to it (at least not to any formal extent) at all...as a matter of principle.
Modernism is now established tradition...but not a desi one. We may be consumers of the artifacts of modernism...but one does not need to use all of these artifcats to use any single one. And so in this post-modern era, we see those who are outside of the Euro-American tradition borrowing from it...as they did from the Arabs, as the Arabs did from the Greeks and Hindus, and so on....
