Yoga

Are any of the guppies into that?
If yes, what were/are your experiences?

i tried the traditional indian yoga with a proper indian yogi guru from india but it didnt seem like a properrrrr workout, it was more like meditation…so i thought it was not of much use and gave it up in two weeks

^

Did it help u to relax?

hmmmm...the thing is u hafta totally let goooooooooo of all physical and mental tensions n thoughts n think u r freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee n the prob with me is that i couldnt reach that state of obliviousness of my surroundings n letting go totally in the presence of the whole class n the instructor coz i was too concious of their presence lol!!! i left it eventually coz i thought if i had to meditate y not derive that from namaz n quran than chant some hindu mantras....

I have a yoga and pilates exercise tape. It's still in the plastic though. If I ever get around to trying it, I'll let ya know!

Trying out new things? :)

:)

The reason I asked was cuz we're having his Yoga course at college and I was thinking of joining them.
But it's more a spirutual kinda things and I don't know if I'm gonna like that.

Maybe I should just try it and see what happens?!
Thanks for replying guys!

OOh and irem, do they actually chant the mantra's?

I find it too slow. And usually when I do manage to really get into it and ignore that really cute guy running the track, well, I find I fall asleep.. it's a bit too relaxing, if I don't fall asleep during it, I come out really sleepy. I'd rather come home and take a nap. But mine was more of a meditation class.. I wanna try those other yoga ones that really get you to flex.

shinoo i guess there r different ways, and the guru who was teaching us was hard core so he taught us these concepts of hinduism which were in disagreement with islamic principles of one God so that kinda put me off and yeah he made us chant those mantras too…om shanti something..

u shud give it a shot n then u’ll know what its abt n whether u like it or not coz its such a hyped up thing might as well try it since theres no harm as and leave it if u dont like it  have fun :k:

It’s either gonna be Yoga or tai chi!
Any experiences with the latter?

Hayaa:
I am always sleepy, don’t need yoga for that!
But hmmm lemme check if there are any cute guys in the class

Irem
Thanx :k: Will let u know how it went … if I join them!

:-)
yoga is nothing but kuku-muluku
:-)

I had tried Yoga for a few months after college. I had gotten hold of a good book, which taught basic concepts of Yoga and exercises in 28 days (with exercies, you have to do more extensive ones gradually). This was the book I had

In my view, the mental relaxation bits are too influenced by hindu teachings, terms and chants, so thats why I left it.. however, the physical exercises in yoga are very very good. They are extremely good for your spine, freshen you up, lose weight, build agility and stamina. I wish I had continued the physical exercises of yoga. I may just as well, start those again.

Thank you Faisal :k:
SO how is weight losing related to Yoga? … isn’t yoga more like a meditation?

A friend of mine has been into Yoga for years now and he’s been trying to get me in it for a long time. I’m not sure though somehow Tai chi attracts me more.
Hmmm anywayz I’m gonna look around and try out both courses and see what I enjoy more.

id' rather do intense aerobic exercises, which i do, than yoga to stay mentally and physically fit and relaxed.

Love Yoga.. Although I agree with Irem I haven't reached the 'free' state of mind.. Yoga twice a weak makes my muscles strongers (if you do it right).. and you move parts of your body that you didnt know existed... it makes the body feel so much better.. :)

try it and let us know how it goes..

Towards finishing my almost daily aerobic class at the gym ,I do Yoga for about 15-20 mins time.Less Meditation, more physical exercise, stretching and breathing exercises.I find it interesting and it definitely relaxes the muscles.I would advise, you should give it a go,shinoo.

Im not sure of the weightloss associated with Yoga.some people are of the opinion that yoga helps reducing weight as well. But to me aerobics is the first choice. :)

 I dont do Yoga Pinoo, but I do concentrate alot
Just sit on my bed, and close my eyes, and concentrate heavily
It makes me feel really good :k:
Do it almost everyday, and it s amazing, sharpens senses and I can think faster, and more clear

Well, you have to understand a few things here, which I am sure you may be aware of, but just for the benefits of the readers, I will put them down.

  1. Yoga has two parts to it. One is the physical exercises' part. Their aim is to make your body agile, healthier and fit. The other is the mental part, called meditation, whose aim is to get your mind at peace with your surroundings. There are some other claimed advantages to it as well, which I won't go into.

  2. Most normal exercises you see (non-Yoga) is where people repeat certain actions in quick motions... like sit-ups, push-ups, weights, treadmill. Yoga exercises on the other hand, rely on holding your position. So, for example, if you bend down to touch your toes, you won't be doing it 10 times as quickly as possible, but rather you will bend down, touch your toes and hold the position for several seconds. Thats why after completing your yoga session for the day, you don't feel exhausted or sweaty.. but rather rejuvenated.

  3. Weight-loss: While most normal execises (non-Yoga) approach weight-loss from the point of view of burning calories by exercising rapidly, Yoga does it the other way. Yoga techniques have identified the parts of our body (glands) which are responsible to maintain our body metabolism. Then through specific exercises around neck and stomach, these glands are activated to optimize our body metabolism rate and thus you lose weight. Although the primary aim of yoga exercises is not to lose weight, but to keep your spinal chord in prim condition. They say, if your spinal chord is flexible and fit, then you will live a much healthier life all around.

ok guys while we are on the subject of yoga i think i should share these hilarious happennings that happenned when i was taking yoga classes here in my college

so the class had this hard core indian swami ji guru ji instructor from india and he used to wear that orange sari type thing…

and not to be mean i mean my own english accent is fobby but just for a laughs sake…his english accent just used to make me crackkkk upppppppppppppppp specially some of the words he said :rotfl:

horror of horrors…the class was filled with indian male grad students..and thankfully some females too…i was the only pakistani there tho…and one of those students..he was my TA in one of my computer science courses!!!

we all used to sit in a circle and swami ji used to make do all these FUNKYYYYYYYYYYYYYY moves which were hecka embarrassing and mosta times i dint really do em but seeing others gosh i used to be giggling like thruout the lesson  it was more of a live comedy show than a yoga class for me :rotfl:

i kinda felt bad just telling him that i had to leave the lesson…but by the second week the thing was becoming more n more embarrassing and more hinduism based…so this one time he turned the lights off and made us do the ‘dead pose’ where everyone had to lie down as usual in the circle and close their eyes and chant some hindu mantras and breathe deeply…

lolz…

so while everyone was lying down in the dark n chanting those mantras and taking deep breaths… i just got up quietly and left the room silently never to return :dixsi:
