FYI, Dr. Gates did not have ghetto childhood and there is no reason for him to behave as such, yet he did. What does that say about blacks’ attitude towards police?
Like I said many times before, and I say it again. Cops are at fault for all these shootings; but blacks as a community are also at fault here. To say they are completely blameless is naive.
Did not read the whole article, and not talking about this specific situation, but if a guy is running away from a cop, he may not be a threat to that cop, but how would the cop know that the guy is not a threat to other people? How the cop would know that the guy would not run into a school, hospital, or nearest house and would not start shooting people?
Yes, the cop’s action was extreme, but as OYMWA said, responsibility flows both ways. If you have done nothing wrong, or have nothing to hide, dont run away from a cop. That is just common sense.
You need to get your facts straight. Prof Gates produced ID. And then asked for the cops name - as was his RIGHT. The cop refused. Of course it is easier to believe the police version. For they never make things up.
There is also a Forbes article - not exactly a liberal publication - that states even if Prof Gates said a few things to the pokice, that is within his constitutional right.

I don’t like where america is heading in this regards. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? If you watch 90s movies, they showed cops saying ‘freeze’ but today they just shoot you if you run. Not even get a chance to get tased.
No that is not my point. My point is that if a cop with a loaded gun stop you for some reason, don’t run away from him. That is pure stupidity, cause if he decided to use the gun, you are dead. After that, debating about who was right or who was wrong is not going to bring you back.

In Ferguson, one revenue generating strategy was to ticket AA’s, fine them and keep doing this for real or non real issues. Finally they can’t pay up. So haul them off to jail.

Seriously I can’t believe people who are putting the onus on the African American community. You will realize the issues are not that simple if you just delve a little deeper and gain a comprehensive understanding of history. It’s convenient to say they are thugs and are up to no good but you need to realize it’s the white establishment that ensures these people maintain this ‘status quo’. The white establishment ensures they never assimilate and remain a marginalized community. It serves their purpose. None of you will ever understand what it’s like to walk in their shoes, what it’s like to have been born into poverty and see no way out of it, to have doors shut on your faces because of your skin color.
They avoid the cops because cops are always out to arrest them for trivial reasons and love to use excessive force on them. Police racism and police brutality is a fact. This has been going on for a long time but thanks to smartphones the issue is just now getting some attention.
You know with the backlash against Muslims I would expect us to be more sympathetic to the African American cause but instead we just like to find an excuse for why they are being treated the way they are. It hurts when Muslims are marginalized for no reason but apparently the same standard doesn’t apply to Blacks.
Racism is so rampant in this world. The world stopped for the Charlie Hebdo massacre but 148 African students get killed and no one bats an eyelid because the victims had too much melanin in their skin.
