Re: Yet another police shooting.
The grand jury may still let him go.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
apparently the guy that shot the video almost deleted it out of fear for his own life…
the mayor and police chief have said that they are going to put body cameras on the cops…I wonder even if that will work cuz who knows if “technical difficulties” will cause the footage from those to disappear…?
Re: Yet another police shooting.
He says he came forward after realizing the radio call released by the cops doctored. The cop couldn’t have done that by himself. At least one other person is involved in a cover-up here.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
What’s wrong with white cops in US?
Re: Yet another police shooting.
exciting stuff.
NOT
Re: Yet another police shooting.
Not sure if you remember, a Harvard professor, Dr. Gates was arrested a few years ago in his own home. He had lost the key to his house and was trying to get in. Someone called the cops on him. The guy who responded was a rookie white cop. Cop was suspicious, professor became belligerent and was eventually arrested. This pretty much sums up the race relations in US.
Its not just the cops, its also the black community as a whole. They refuse to assimilate and distrust authorities and they may have a justifiable reason ( disproportionate rates of arrests and conviction of blacks ) for it. Even the ones that are very successful act ghetto. Cops on their part see blacks as criminals, and approach every situation involving blacks with prejudice.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
^ Regardless of the “attitude” that the African American community may bring to the table…it is incumbent on the police to behave in a fair manner with all people. They are in a position of authority and their role demands that they see past the prejudices and focus only on upholding the law.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
I mean we have racist police officers in UK but they wouldn’t dare shoot at a criminal let alone a person minding his own business.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
Do police officers in UK carry guns?
Re: Yet another police shooting.
Rarely. That’s interesting though…the militarization of US police may be another reason for these shootings.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
Agreed. And am not trying to justify the shooting here, but place yourselves in an ordinary cop’s shoes. He is just a regular guy with a family, kids etc. During his work dealing with blacks, all he sees is stealing, drugs, firearms, shooting etc. He wants to uphold the law, but he also wants to go home end of the day to his kids, alive. When he encounters an uncooperative black guy, his instinct is safety. This is how these confrontations start.
There is a serious disjoint between the way law enforcement sees a situation and the way blacks do. The only way to bridge that gap is to have black cops police black neighborhood, or at least have white cops partner with black cops.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
It is more about profiling. They see a man of color, automatically assume he is a criminal. It is worse in the south. Maybe the checks and accountability work better in UK in US. Like in this case, they doctored the radio call. Instead of holding the guy responsible, they are actively trying to protect him.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
This is another thing I don’t understand. The cops need to find a non-lethal ways of apprehending people. They already carry tasers and work in pairs; what is the need for a gun?
Re: Yet another police shooting.
Please don’t add insult to injury by laying it on the black community.
Successful blacks acting ghetto? What does that even mean? The black community has certain cultural traits it hangs onto. The white establishment media characterizes that negatively.
Every once in a while good to put ourselves in others shoes.
We need to recognize and condemn thuggish behavior from cops without looking for ridiculous reasons.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
In New York City a black man going out to throw his garbage is stopped and frisked. This “bad” experience of cops wrt blacks is a self fulfilling prophecy. You treat a community like crap. And expect different results?
being shot at while being muslim is not ok. And we shouldn’t make excuses. Racism is alive and well. 99 pct of such incidents can be assigned to that.
This notion that police duty should be zero risk makes no sense. There is some risk involved. Cops cannot transfer 100 pct of risk on to black community
Re: Yet another police shooting.
OK. How do you explain this then:
Is that something the media made up? Or is Deion Sanders white? Apparently, even blacks frown upon such kind of behavior. Look, the idea of putting in someone else’s shoes runs both ways. The confrontational attitudes that come to bear during these encounters, cannot all be blamed on cops. Blacks contribute to the situation too. As for Dr. Gates, when a cop asks you to produce some ID, you just do it. If you are an educated and responsible citizen, that is. You don’t go ape-**** on him and say things like this is my house, you are doing this coz am black, lecture him about slavery etc. That to me is going ghetto.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
no but the times they do, they shoot random brazilians in the subway because they werent white-looking.
Re: Yet another police shooting.
No, the vast majority don’t thank God.. Don’t want to see more guns here..
Re: Yet another police shooting.
What does this have to do with police killing people left and right?
As for Prof Gates not producing I’D maybe if you were in his shoes you would not have this opinion. Going through a lifetime of such “ghetto” attitude from police, maybe, just maybe a person is allowed some leeway.
Good to refrain from false equivakency.
don’t the police receive any training. High time we started supporting or making excuses.
