Yet Another Investigation

Heard the news on BBC and Sky News that the Cricket Anti Corruption unit have been given the tapes of the match between Pakistan and SL, as there is suspicion regarding the match and especially the run out of Youhanna. Waqar has been asked to appear before the commision in Colombo today.

This is all Pakistan needs at this time. I think the suspicion should have arisen if Pakistan had won the match, keeping their current form in mind.

Let’s see what develops.

This is an insult to a great SL performance. does ICC really thinks that Pakistan had to throw away wickets to lose to SL :)

Where is ICC going to  I mean first the sponsorship deals and now this, I think ICC is working against cricket rather than for it

Well some columist pointed out the bad decsions given by umpires against Pakistan. He made the argument that the umpires did so on the command of ICC as the ICC didn’t want the hosts going out in the first round  So lets investigate the ICC as well  This is funny :hula:

oh and someone knows where is the Paul Condon report and what he is doing???

ACU investigating Pakistan defeat in tournament opener
Charlie Austin - 16 September 2002

The Anti Corruption Unit (ACU), the organisation created by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to rid the game of match fixing, is investigating Pakistan’s defeat in the opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy, when they lost to Sri Lanka by eight wickets.

Although ACU activities are supposed to remain confidential, the ICC confirmed that specific events during the course of the match had warranted further investigation.

“The ACU has confirmed that as part of the security protocols put in place for the event, it has requested that the host broadcaster supply it with tapes of all matches played,” said an ICC media release.

“Specifically, it has reviewed a number of incidents that took place in the opening match of the tournament between Sri Lanka and Pakistan,” it added.

“Any incident that looks sub-standard or out of the ordinary, such as a bad run out or bad shot may be looked at,” ICC media manager Mark Harrison added.

But he played down the news: “They are just putting into action the process that is now in place. There is nothing out of the ordinary in them requesting a tape.”

The ACU has implemented several security measures in the past year, including the appointment of permanent security managers at every game, tight controls over the use of mobile phones by the players and video surveillance at the venues and team hotels.

ACU head Lord Condon claimed: “The ACU is confident that this regime is providing and effective and professional deterrent that will protect both the integrity of the tournament and the privacy of the players.”

The ACU are already investigating Pakistan’s surprise defeat against South Africa in the Morocco Cup last month, when Waqar Younis’s team collapsed from 92 for two to 188 all out, losing the game by eight runs.

Pakistan captain Waqar Younis, speaking to journalists on Sunday night, defended his team: “I am not in a position to comment on the whole issue. All I will say is we have played our cricket in an honest manner.”

As for Youhanna incident, he took off for a single, was sent back by Saeed, slipped and fell down while turning back, got up and tried to make his ground and got run out. That really sound suspicious.

:smack: o no! not pakistan AGAIN!!!

There is no way that the Pakistani players can throw a Match for the sake of Money.

However, I will not dispute the Idea that there was heavy betting on a Pakistani Win and therefore the Bookie Mafia would have threatened the Life and Safety of the Palyers and their Families.

This is the only reason for whcih the Pakistani Players MIGHT UNDERPERFORM.

I do not say that this is the reason. All I say is that this might be the Reason.

There are far greater possiblities that the Pakistani Cricket Team is going through a Bad Patch.

There is no way that the Pakistani players can throw a Match for the sake of Money. <<<<<

won't be too sure about that: why would the pakistani players' mentality be different from the rest of the/our country's?

^PS: i'm NOT imlpying that they were bribed but we should keep it in mind, just in case

mod unkil aik baat pooch loon mind tou nai karien gey? Why did u edit your msg? Are u scared of a back lash from ICC? :(

UnderCover112 :

  1. None of the Players will risk being banned for life and thereby lose their whole career.

  2. That is why you are not in the Pakistani Cricket Team

Fantastic aunty, absolutely not, Upon reflection I didn't think this was the place for those comments and more importantly some might have thought that I was making excuses for the defeat of our team. Samjha karo ;)

Jub ICC hi hamrey liey excuses bana raha hey tou hum kiun na banien :D

chaloo jee ICC ko routine pain howa dubara ..... With current form of Pakistan Cricket team ICC better investigate against Australia ..how they lost the series at home :)

In my personal opinion, someone must either be VERY STUPID or have excess cash to throw away, for them to actually PAY BRIBES to Pakistani cricketers to lose matches, at this point. I believe, right now they are in a phase where they are fully capable of doing that without too much outside help and incentives.

Sad, yes. Surprising, no.

If we manage to lose against Holland, then yes, launch all investigations bla bla bla.

Fixing reports baseless, says ICC
HT Correspondent
Colombo, September 17

The ICC said on Monday, that media reports saying that the Pakistan-Sri Lanka one-day match on Thursday was suspected of being “fixed” were “baseless.”

It said that the Anti-Corruption Unit had not asked for tapes of the match because they thought it was fixed. “The ACU regularly asks for tapes of matches as part of their security measure,” said an ICC official here.

The ACU later clarified that as part of the security protocols put in place for the event, it has requested that the host broadcaster supply it with tapes of all matches played by all 12 teams competing in Colombo.

A media release quoting ACU head Paul Condon, said “Specifically, it has reviewed a number of incidents that took place in the opening match of the tournament between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Thursday 12th September… No one should be surprised at this approach and the Unit will be looking at other incidents in other matches during the course of the remaining 10 games of the tournament.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Waqar Younis expressed total ignorance of the reports. Speaking to the Hindustan Times on Monday, Waqar said the tapes could have been asked for many reasons. “They could be wanting to closely review the action of some bowler or wanting to see something about ball-tampering. Just because the tapes have been asked for does not mean the ACU has got into the whole thing.”

Waqar was dismissive when asked specifically about reported suspicions over the run-out of Yousuf Youhana in the match. “If every run-out in cricket is dissected like this, then tapes of every match in which a run-out takes place should be sent to the ACU. Saeed Anwar thought there was a run in that and because of a mix-up, there was a run-out. These things happen all the time in cricket.”

The Pakistan skipper said that the players had not been contacted by the ICC either. “The ICC has not contacted the PCB regarding this and the PCB has not contacted us on this issue. So I really cannot see what all the fuss is about.”

An ICC official said the ICC was issuing a release merely to clarify matters as they had a number of requests about the tapes after Tony Greig went on air and said the ACU had asked for them.

yeah right!
someone who takes a bribe in a company risks the same thing, yet still does it. WHY? the answer to that question also applies here…

EXACTLY! because I don’t take bribes :stuck_out_tongue:

By the way, just interested in knowing what effect would the result of this investigation have on Pakistan's chances for the World cup?
