Ok, I have 1 more. Hubby and I were engaged, both in the US. I had recently graduated with an MS degree. A few days later a very close friend of mine emails me from India saying “your FIL is just awesome!” She told me that she was at a function and my in laws also happened to be there (in laws didnt know her, but she recognized them from my photos). FIL was distributing mithai to everyone for my graduation and telling everyone who would listen about me. We weren’t even married then! What blew me away was that they didn’t even mention to me that they were doing this - they just went ahead and did it because they were so happy!
In the initial days of marriage, my in laws went the extra mile to make me feel part of the family. That made such a huge difference to our relationship - I genuinely care about them now. I hope I am capable of being this nice to my future DIL if and when the time comes.
