Well, most of you will agree with me that whenever we have to scare a child we say “Chup kar key so jao, warna BHAOW aa jay ga”. And we are hearing about this BHAOW since we were kids, and maybe pass it to our next generation. Have you ever thought, what is BHAOW actually? And why BHAOW always have to be the one to scare the children to sleep?
I met differnet people from different backgrounds and found one thing, they all (me inclusive) were scared of BHAOW when we where kids…
my mum n dad always used to say chho jo (so jaao) putr werna ali baba aa jaey gaa…
ali baba was a distant relative…and all us kids were scared to death from him for some unknown reason…
getting back to the point…yea ur right, parents do use some sort of a threat to keep kids in control…i guess they have to..lol…especially if they have kids like us
Growing up I too was threatened with the infamous "Bhaow". I don't know where the word comes from or what it means. I always associated it with some type of monster.
At any rate, to this day, I'm still afraid of the "Bhaow".
Sadaf:
every kid has the same or similar experience at that age. The world BHAOW was to associtae with some kind of ghosts, and dogs. Mostly with the dogs because it when a dog barks, it creats a sound like BHAOW.
But still I am not sure again if this is right or wrong. What I think when it comes out of mom it means some monster in father's relatives and when it is said by the Phoophies (father's sisters), it means some one in moms relatives. How is that?
have heard of this after a long time :)
oh i remember my mom would always scare us.. chupp nahi to bhaow ko bulaa longi
And i've scared my kid sister to a reasonable extent...poor kid.
Hehehe!!! Thanks for the replies. I really enjoyed them and now atleast I know that everyone is or was afraid of BHAOW. Masaqibj, yeah maybe you're right LOL. my cousin uses the the "baba jani" to scare her child... Maybe, not all but mostly parents use BHAOW.
Oky lets take it from children's prespective... I was scared of BHAOW, my best friend was sacred of BHAOW, my sister were scared of BHAOW but we never disucssed it with eachother because we were afraid that the other might say..... "Tum itni bari ho kar BHAOW se darti ho?" But now I think that everyone was afraid of that thing. Ok.one more thing, let suppose... if there are many BHAOWs in Pakistan, and they actually scare the children. They must have their own community, their own life style.. right!?! And they must have a BHAOW BILLA as their leader... Wanna imagine if that BHAOW BILLA comes and scare the child?
You are right Umar that barey bachey Bhaow sey nahi dartey, you know why, because they become BHAOW by themselve for the kids.
Did not you see a grown up person trying to scare the kid by moving his/her eyes around and making scary faces?
I have seen these Bhaows so many times,
Although I was not scare of these Nakaly Bhaows but they do try though all the time
