Yeast Infection ---- [ladies only please]

Re: Yeast Infection ---- [ladies only please]

Apart from seeing a doctor now and treating it with monistat, you can prevent them in the future by eating yoghurt with ACTIVE cultures. If you are in the US try ACTIVA from dannon. That really works !

Frequent yeast infections are also a warning sign of diabetes.

Re: Yeast Infection ---- [ladies only please]

Respected Ladies

Yeast Infection is a common lay man's term applied to Infections caused by Fungus (plural Fungi) as yeast itself is a form of Fungus. They are reponsible for the fermentation of Flour and its conversion to Khameer as we call in Urdu. They are also ferment the milk and convert it to Yoghurt. But these varieties do not cause infection. There are other forms of Fungi which can infect different parts of body like Hair, Skin, Nails, Genitals etc. The signs, symptoms and treatment differ accordingly. Tension, anxiety and/or depression do not cause Yeast infection but can lead to progression and worsening of symptoms. The herbal and household gimmicks can only alleviate the symptoms but do not cure the disease. Probably the one being questioned by a respected sisiter is the yeast infection of female genital area. It is different from UTIs. It is also called leucorrhoea and can lead to itching, foul smell and/or whitish/yellowish discahrge. If untreated for long periods of time it becomes refractory to treatment and can be quite bothersome. There are certain medicines available in the form of large Fungicidal tablets to be used at the affected site. They should not be taken via mouth. Examples are Nilstat, Nystatin, Canestin, etc. Apart from tablets certain Fungicidal creams also exist which are applied locally e.g. Canestin, Funginil etc. Another treatment modality is by taking certain Fungicidal tablets or capsules (e.g. Sporanox etc) via mouth. The dosage and duration differs from case to case and depends upon the treament modality being followed. The best answer/solution is to consult a doctor/gynaecologist and that too at the earliest.
Wishing you an early recovery.
Regards.

Re: Yeast Infection ---- [ladies only please]

There seems to be a little misinformation on this board. Yeast infections and UTI's are two totally separate issues.

A UTI is a bacterial infection that happens when a bacteria, not in the urethra but from some other place (like vagina or rectum), enters the urethra and travels up the urinary tract, possibly to the bladder and kidneys. Generally, UTI's are very painful and you will most likely need to take antibiotics for this. Cranberry juice is thought to help prevent UTI's by two ways: it has some compound in it that prevents bacteria from "sticking" to the bladder the urethra, and it makes a hostile environment inside for the bacteria. Good hygiene helps prevent UTI's as well, such as washing and wiping from front to back only (never back to front). Incidentally, a lot of newly sexually active women (and newlyweds) get UTI's when their vaginal bacteria is introduced into their urethra through normal sexual activity (doctors even call this "honeymoon cystitis").

Yeast infections are a fungal infection that need to be treated with antifungal medications, either orally or topically. There is always yeast in the vagina, but when the balance gets thrown off, you end up with an overgrowth. Eating yogurt is a good way to keep the balance in check, as the bacteria in yogurt controls yeast growth. Also, it is very important to keep oneself dry in the vaginal area. Washing without drying, not showering after exercising, not washing off extra sweat, wearing panties made of non-cotton materials all provide a fertile breeding ground for a yeast infection.

Re: Yeast Infection ---- [ladies only please]

I wouldn't call it yeast infection I think. It's a vagianl infection causing a discharge. I don't really have yeast infection symptoms. I went to the docs today and she gave me a med. If it works or if it doesn't I still have to see the doc in next 5-6 days and tell her then a sample will be taken or she will give me more of those pills.

Re: Yeast Infection ---- [ladies only please]

No good for a fungla infection. Cranberry juice is good for bacterial infection. Stick with monistat.
