Yasir Hameed

i dont really understand what he has done wrong to not be given a place in this side! he has a pretty good record against the indians, and has seen all of these bowlers a lot! some of the selections criterias used by woolmer ar emind bogling! salman butt made his odi debut in icc champions trophy semifinal, taufeeq recently played his 1st odi in 10 months in a final against aus! and now such a big test series and taufeeq playing 1st test match in like a year!

Re: Yasir Hameed

he is not the VC … as simple as that

Re: Yasir Hameed

u mean like never score a run under pressure youhana or under achiever younis?

Re: Yasir Hameed

NO no.. he means he is not the vice captain and doesn't have the parchi :)

Re: Yasir Hameed

but youhana is not a vice captain how did he get parchi? maybe bcuz he is punjabi and inzi favors him, cuz not once in a test match against considerable opposition in pressure situation have i seen youhana put his hand up!

Re: Yasir Hameed

actually he did recently in AUS as stand-in skipper in the boxing day test … he scored 126 i think … but u r right on Yasir … Both Yoyo and Yuni were in on behalf of “experience” which we saw the results of … in these circumstances application to condistion and match situation is more vital than any experience … see Asim Kamal … My Hero

Re: Yasir Hameed

yasir hameed is an inconsistent loser too...but i agree better than taufeeq umar...these guys need to score centuries. Its been a while since both of them scored any

Re: Yasir Hameed

i say its racism.. just cuz hes pathan.. j/k :P

Re: Yasir Hameed

Sir Sayyad Ahmed Khan nay bola tha… “Insaan Kisi Hal mein Khush nahi rehta.”
This thread totally concur to his statement, When Yasir was in, we were yapping about why nout Younis…etc this and that, and when Younis is in and currently Butt didnt perform we are again yapping let them have a decent consistent run in both form of cricket and if they do not perform what is expected of them, then raise question or doubts.

After Butts 100 in Platinum century almost all of us said yes we have at LAST! found replacement of Saeed Anwar and if I am not wrong same was said of Imran Farhat too, D. Martyn, Ricky Ponting they are outstanding players only because their coach and selectors had faith in them when they were getting ducks and max score of 25!

If you want to see Moderm Musical chair then Australia’s tour was the best example, they were not sure which batsman to play and they kept on juggling the players.

Let this opening pair and 1-down (now we tag him as VC) and on Australia’s tour our most successful batsman eh! play it out for the whole 3 test matches, only make changes if typical Indian wickets are in play you need 2 or more spin bowlers.

Simply dont copy paste what cricinfo article suggest!

Re: Yasir Hameed

zero_1 i dont think the 1st innings not was that cruicial, i think his real job was supposed 2 b in the 2nd innings in that match! where pakistan really needed him to be a force! and as acrobi saying well we contradict yes people do, but i never said drop yasir because i thought he was really consistent and scored runs against every attack in the world! aus, nz, ind! he was the 2nd fastest to 1000 runs after viv richards!!

Re: Yasir Hameed

Oh come on, dont play the Punjabi angle with this. Youhana has a career test average of close to 50 and is unversally known as a world class batsman. If you want to look at a guy who does’nt deserve a spot on the team, point a finger at Younis Khan who rarely if ever plays a big innings and is somehow the vice captain now.
I would take out Taufiq and Younis both and play Hameed and Shoiab Malik. But that wont happen since Younis is somehow the vice captain now and Woolmer has said he will stick with Taufiq.

Re: Yasir Hameed

Yeah, and how many of the classy Youhana's centuries have resulted in Pakistan winning a test match.... none.....Youhana sucks plays for his average and only scores against weak oppositions and in dead rubbers.....

Re: Yasir Hameed

That is a comman complaint, but who would you play in his place. I like Yassir Hameed as much as teh enxt person, but is it reasonable to play him at #5? Frankly there are’nt many other possibilities.

Re: Yasir Hameed

So people think Youhana hass not scored in pressure situation, read this article from cricinfo:

Youhana steps it up, and Aussie appeals

Perhaps numbers never do reveal the full story, but they tell a large part of it. Every Friday, The Numbers Game will take a look at statistics from the present and the past, busting myths and revealing hidden truths:

From good to great?
For a long time now, Yousuf Youhana has been recognised as one of the most elegant batsmen in the game today – he has a grace and fluidity to his game which is so easy on the eye – but for all the skill, Youhana has been unable to transcend from the merely good to the great. Along with adjectives like elegant and graceful, the tag of a `soft’ player has often been labelled against him. Now, after seven seasons in international cricket, it seems Youhana is finally ready to shed that tag and be counted among the best batsmen to have played for Pakistan.

In the past few months, Youhana has showed the stomach for a fight – exactly the trait he was accused of lacking for so many years – more than once. Last September, in the ICC Champions’ Trophy, he struck an excellent unbeaten 81 in a low-scoring one-dayer to guide Pakistan home in a tense run-chase against India. Then, leading the team for only the second time in Tests at Melbourne against Australia, he scored an outstanding century to keep a rampaging Australian attack at bay. Both were situations in which the Youhana of old would probably have dazzled briefly, scored an enchanting but utterly inconsequential 30, and then thrown it away.

Youhana’s one-day stats has been especially indicative of this trait – till the 2003 World Cup, Youhana clearly preferred batting first to the pressures of a run-chase: he averaged 48.31 in innings when Pakistan set a target, and less than 33 when they chased one.
**Since the World Cup, though, Youhana’s stats in second innings have zoomed up – he averages 58.44, an increase of nearly 26 runs, or 80%. He’s also been instrumental in Pakistan winning many of those matches, averaging more than 91 in the 17 successful run-chases for Pakistan during this period. During the same period, Inzamam-ul-Haq averaged 48.94 when Pakistan batted second, and 56 in successful run-chases.

Yousuf Youhana in ODIs Matches Runs Average
In run-chases till World Cup 2003 52 1335 32.56
In run-chases after WC 2003 27 1052 58.44
In victorious chases since WC 2003 17 729 91.13
In run-chases exceeding 230 17 649 46.36 **

In just over three weeks, though, Youhana will be facing one of his biggest challenges when Pakistan tour India. The last time the two teams clashed in Tests, in that historic series in March 2004, Youhana had his moments, but his highest score – 112 at Multan – was a `typical’ Youhana knock, scored in a completely lost cause with nothing at stake. Since then, he has proved that he can put in match-turning performances too. Pakistan will expect nothing less.

Re: Yasir Hameed

I would like to add that only Pakistani fans would advocate not playing a guy with a 50 test average. And this on a team with weak batting. LOL hahahahah

Re: Yasir Hameed

By saying that he is the 2nd one to reach 1000 runs quickly doesnt imply he is the greatest, I agree he is a talented batsman no doubt about it.

If you may recall Basit Ali mostly known as photocopy of Javed Miandad, didnt last long thanks to cricket politics…

Sometimes its blessing in disguise that you are not playing and I think its the same for Hameed. He has a superb avg in test and very nice in ODIs as well so does BUTT, Tauffeq in Test, Younis also, notice one thing Younis avg is consistent on a long term basis, and yet he has been in and out of the team.

Re: Yasir Hameed

There are many more in domestic who await to be included in middle order but our seniors are still occupying that slot so only Asim has been fortunate enough to be included there in Tests.

Re: Yasir Hameed

I think its correct decision not to include Yasir.. technically hes not crrect and keeps on repeating same mistakes again and again.. Taufeeq though not perfect is a better player..

Re: Yasir Hameed

Yasir Hameed could easily open instead of Salman Butt.

Re: Yasir Hameed

no im not saying replace youhana with yasir, im just saying yasir did nothing wrong to be droppped, and as for youhana i think he should feel a little heat because shoaib malik is one hell of a talented batsman, this coming from me who was the biggest advocate of dropping malik when he was batting at no.7 or 6 in odi, but given proper chance he proved he is a really good batsman! so i think malik can be potentially a world class batsman!
