Re: Would you…
I know but trust me to a lot of people it does matter, they would never marry Bengalis.

It was major political clash between West Pakistan (Punjab) and former East Pakistan(now Bangladesh). They were discriminated(language, color, height, employement in civil and army services) by West Pakistan(Punjab) from 1947 till 1971.
Re: Would you...
^ Plus a lot of Pakistanis kinda look down on Bengalis, not in a mean cruel way or anything. Just from what I've seen like in a kind of joking eww kinda way, I dunno but you guys get what I mean.
Astaghfirullah
Re: Would you...
I do. A very close relative is married to a Bangladeshi. I think some people made comments, some people were surprised, but most people were and still are very happy.
This relative had MANY rishta options.
Just curious but what is the ethnicity of your close relative? I ask cause I think it would be highly unlikely among any Pashtun or Punjabi family.
Re: Would you...
^ Yes, I think there are jokes that people don't realize are offensive, until they consider the company they're in. But overall the people in my family (migrants from India to Pakistan mostly) really love her.
Oh ok, there you go you answered my question.
Re: Would you...
^ Yeah, we are not Punjabi. Mostly Karachi residents. Some from Hyderabad. But all with routes in India.
Re: Would you…
In Pakistan, it was very famous saying that “yeh to do takay ka insan hai”, and now taka is more valuable than a rupee. ![]()

You are also from khi
Re: Would you...
^Yes. I have not lived there, but half my heart is there.
To the OP, I think you should definitely consider it. The Bangladeshis I know have a far more educated, open-minded, thoughtful, and intellectual approach to life than most of the Paksitanis I know.
Re: Would you…
Oii I am getting married to a girl and half of her family still lives in Bangladesh - they didnt move like many did post 1971 .. And I am hoping to get a full pampered tour of Bangladesh after me marriage !
we karachittes wont mind doing that ![]()
Re: Would you...
Not trying to be racist or anything, but I don't know any Pakistanis here in the States (or in Pakistan) who are married to or would marry a Bangladeshi. I'm pretty sure a lot of families would be against letting their kids do that too. I doubt most people would even consider it.
I'm just being realistic, I don't have anything against Bengalis or anything.
A lot of Pakistani families are against their kids marrying any other race full stop tho, aren't they?
The desi part of my family comes from Karachi and Dhaka (am visiting there later this month :)) and this goes back a few generations.. some of my older relatives ended up leaving Pakistan and settling in Dhaka after marriage and vice versa.. Obviously it's not common but it definitely happens and it's not always as difficult or complicated as ppl make it out to be.. Bangladeshis tend to be quite open-minded.. they're not usually as hesistant when it comes to marrying Indians (Muslims obviously) or foreigners in general.. Tribalism and the caste system also don't exist in their culture which makes things a bit easier..
I would tell the OP to go for it IF she likes the guy and thinks they might be compatible..

Was going to say the same thing. I don't think it's a coincidence that every Bangladeshi I've known has been refined and well-read, socioeconomic strata aside.
Re: Would you…
Oh I have a Bangladeshi sweeper n I neither understand his Urdu nor English
but since ur bangali raised in US u might understand his acssent but of all bangali speaks like my sweaper then a big no from my side
Re: Would you...
I'm not sure I understand what this thread is about though. Why is PCG wary of Bangladeshis specifically, when this guy's been raised in the West? How is it any more palatable when a Punjabi marries a Sindhi, or a Pathan marries an Urdu-speaker/Mohajir? 4 alien provinces under one flag; we're going to suffocate each other in our sleep regardless.
Instead, let's b-tch about Hyderabadi-Deccanis and how they rant ad nauseam about the Nizam and biriyani. Besides, rumor has it Biharis fare worse than Bengalis on the desirability spectrum.
Ethnic war in 3, 2, 1 ... :D
Re: Would you…
Prob just his level of english/lack of formal education..
Bangladeshis tend to have quite a soft accent when speaking English (their language is v.soft and ‘flowy’)..
