Re: Would you serve Cheese and Crackers to a guest in your home?
depends on who your guests are. If they are old desi ppl (aunties and uncles) I would not serve cheese and crackers for they would get offended. Desi’s always like to be served chai and somosas, or baked goods of some sort.
I on the other hand have no problem with eating GOURMET style cheese and crackers at a guests house.
i would not allow unexpected guests at my house (i refuse to let them in )…dont like that…will nvr like it. it’s totally disrespectful and an invasion of ones privacy.
im sure many desi folks would be open to the idea of it, at least trying it. As long as perhaps something else is served as well. I tried this spicy spanish cheese last week, not sure what it is called, but wow, it had such a kick too it & was really really good.
Maybe instead o fjust crackers, also have little toast rounds/slices. You can evenmelt some cheese and top with a salsa or something.
I had served Olive Tapenade to desi guests for the 1st time, and they were scared to try at 1st, until i explained to them what it is and how to eat.....then they all loved it.
pita bread triangles...hummus and olives are also something one can serve.

No, I wouldn't but if they're coming to stay for a night then I might serve some crackers, popcorns and meringues to enjoy while watching a movie or something.

I serve a cheeseboard at the end of a meal if i’m dong a dinner party… but most desi’s don’t appreciate the cheese selection there, so i find it a waste of time to serve to desi’s… i just stick to what their ignorant little minds are restricted to…

Interesting. I got caught the kitchen once by some visiting overseas desi guests, while i was in the middle of biting into a cream cracker with grilled cheese on top. They wanted to know what it was, tried it, then there was a QUEUE of them demanding crackers with melted cheese.

First time i've heard of meringue and movies... Interesting. If someone served me meringue if I was a guest at their house, I would crumble it over their head!
But it doesn't mean that u have to have dinner if u r hungry, C&C will stop your hunger, it is still food.
I think Mirch uncle will be offended by it!
If you are a person of modest means, student, jobless, homeless or for any other reason you cannot serve a proper meal , I will not be offended. But if you have none of the handicaps mentioned above then I will not visit you again without confirming that you will serve a 4 course dinner of Nihari , Biryani , Qorma and Shami Kababs. :D
Let me tell you a real life story. One of my relatives moved from Pakistan to US and wanted to invite me to their home. She asked what I would like to eat ? I said I eat only Parhazee khana (restricted diet might be English translation) .
She asked what kind of parhazee khana , I said " Qorma, biryani , nihari , paya and shami kabab. " For few seconds she was stunned then she realized I was just kidding so she started chuckling. :D
