Yes, its privately funded... here are some of the details
This is one-way trip to mars, anyone can apply online, initially 40 participants were selected and are being trained to survive on Mars, first crew will be sent in 2023 and then others will be sent every few years in SpaceX dragon capsule (sponsored by Space X CEO Elon Musk).
The crew will set up a small camp and develop survival techniques for habitation for the next arriving batch. Thats all I know so far, rest you can google.

Maybe it’s a creative attempt at population control. Let’s see…who would I want send to Mars? :hmmm:

Then at least there are greater chances of my loved having access to me and paying their last respects.

And yes, even on Earth...certain deaths don't allow for that. But seriously, TLK, I wouldn't do it. I'm comfortable on Earth.

No I wouldn't, wherever humans go, eventually they make a mess of that place. The ones making it better are far fewer than the opposite.
